Not denying the first sentence, the second is a load of bollocks. At
no time were England EVER going to win this one. But the Torygraph
must be seen to be supporting the home troops I guess.

Firstly, the writer never said England were going to win. Secondly, he
makes it perfectly clear that he is appraising England's performance mostly
as an improvement on their appalling form of the week before. Finally,
being within seven points of the opposition is an intercept try away from
victory: England were within seven points until deep in the second half.

The first half was very good from England. They were very physical
and combative. It looks like their forwards just lacked the fitness
to carry that through to the second half. It that had happened, they
could have won.
