The Sharks have also released Australians Glen Liddiard
and Peter Wheeler on free transfers to York Wasps, with
Rob Danby, Paul Darley, Paul Crook and Gareth Stephens
joining them on loan too.
Our local paper is linking Sharks with Aussie Ian Roberts.

Am I right in thinking this chap is the one and only "Gay" RL player?
If so the mind boggles at the reception he would get from the forward thinking
inhabitants for the 3d stand :-).

Didn't he also cripple himself at Oldham last week??
Paul
Why? They don't have a problem with Tim Wilby as their Chairman.
Not the only one!!!

I never knew about this until recently & often wondered what happened to
him, however, I rated him as a player and he seemed to come across well. As
for his sexual tendacies, personally I couldn't give a toss - it has no
bearing on what a persons abilites are... DOES IT.

Bollocks
Last time we came to the Boulevard we took an Indian lad with us, this
turned out to be a big mistake. No matter where we stood we seemed to find
mellam & threepenorth types hurling racial abuse about one inch from our
eardrums. We actually changed location about four times, the poor lad
didn't know where to put himself and we were all taken back by the
vociferous hatred he endured.
<<What will you be doing? Sniggering behind the posts perhaps?>>
Well David, seeing as you don't even know me, perhaps its best not to
suggest what I will be doing and wait until I tell you. You appear to be an
exception to other Hull based NG contributors seeing as you can spell,
punctuate and hold a conversation.
Nice to meet you............

I doubt very much whether you are right in thinking Roberts
is the only gay RL player. Wilby reckons there were three gay
players at Hull FC when he played there. However, he might have
said three just to get people wondering who the 'third man' might
have been. As for the reception of the Threepenny stand, I reckon
Roberts playing ability would earn him instant respect from most.
Even the worst seem able to supress their racist tendencies for
our Black players. If he got a load of grief he may respond as
Tim Wilby did on Sunday and smack the offensive person before having
him thrown out of the ground. Is this a first for an RL chairman?

I'm not sure Paul Eastwood ever 'came out' as you put it. However,
he did suffer 'Rent Boy' chants from the 'opposition' every time he
played. So, the homophobia seems to be fairly widespread, but you
will find Hull Sharks at the forefront of campaigns to fight racism,

A far as Roberts goes, I don't even believe Hull could afford his Dolce &
Gabbana shoelaces.

In Monday's (28th June) Independent - Ian Roberts, hard man of
Australian Rugby League, tells Dave Hadfield about "coming out" on his
homosexuality.

No! There are numerous others. It seems Ian Roberts is the only one who has
chosen to be open/honest about himself. I for one admire him for it. It
took a lot of courage to cop all the criticism he got from some "people".
