Anybody know the great Redgrave's best erg time? I'm sure we'd all like to
compare our best 2000m with his, and begin (rekindle?) the debate about
how great erg performance translates to skill/speed on the water.

As I understand it Redgraves best is 5:48. However, Greg Searle holds
the world record at 5:44.

I bet it is not as good as "Sooper" Erich Smith of Ohio State.

According to http://www.concept2.co.uk/con26.htm, these are the current
2km World Record Holders.

19-29 Hwt Sarah Lauritzen DAN 6.39.8
Lwt Michelle Darville GER 7.05.3
30-39 Hwt *Maria Brandin SWE 6.35.7
Lwt Erika Coble USA 7.14.2
40-49 Hwt Carie Graves USA 6.57.8
Lwt Laura Boyd USA 7.40.0

19-29 Hwt *Greg Searle GBR 5.44.1
Lwt Ralph Kreibich OST 6.05.5
30-39 Hwt *Steve Redgrave GBR 5.46.8
Lwt Andy Sinton GBR 6.19.9
40-49 Hwt *Pertti Karpinnen FIN
5.52.0 Lwt Jean Paul Tardieu FRA
6.26.5

*These ones I know are also 'good' oarsmen/scullers. Anyone know
anything about the others?

In recent Olympic games,
Brandin finished 4th(?) in the W1X Olympic final
Searle got a gold in the M2+ in '92 and a bronze in the M4- in '96
Redgrave got a gold in the M4+ (84), 2- (88, 92, & 96) and a bronze in
the M2+ in '92.
Karpinnen got a gold in the M1X in '76, 80 & 84.

I'm fairly sure Andy Sinton is a GB international, but I'll leave
someone else to verify that.

Steve's time is good I am sure. But the best in Britain (and the world
for that matter) is by Greg Searle. Something around the 5.30 mark I
believe.

Me thinks Mr Searle did 5:44 (1:26 avg) and Mr redgrave did 5:46.
There is a world erg list on the concept 2 web site.

On Concept II's record web page (http://www.concept2.com/indrower/records.html)
Greg Searle is listed as the record holder for age 19-29 with 5:44.1 and
Redgrave is listed with the record for 30 - 39 with 5:46.8

From what I can remember in Regattta, both thes times were set last year,
Redgraves being the third fastest ever and only just outside the previous
record set by Matthias Seijkowski (spelling?) of Germany.
