Any comments on the performance of the mixed pairs in the Pairs Head?
I thought they did rather well,

Are you sure that there were any? I didn't see any when I was marshalling,
and I can't find any in the results. It would be interesting to see how
many mixed pairs could make the boat go reasonably straight, but most of the
time I think you'll find that mixed crews will do doubles instead of pairs.

Our mixed double who won IM2 mixed 2x at the Pairs Head, occasionally
race as a pair - but as open (i.e. men) since there aren't generally
any events for mixed pairs. In fact I don't think I've seen any, even
in "fun" regattas.

I run a double with my partner regularly and we have run as a pair in
the past. We always found it very easy as we were well in tune with
each other. By putting the man in the bow, you just have to match the
stroke and strength of the stroke. On the tideway (rather than a
lake), you are slightly compromised in terms of speed, by steering and
keeping a good lookout, so having the stronger rower in the bow makes
sense and steering a straight line is not such an issue. We've never
raced as a pair though and have never noticed any potential
competition at events.

I suspect Anthony was referring to the 2 elite mixed lwt doubles that
both finished in the top 10.

Grant and I rather enjoy a mixed pair from time to time. He's a great
stroke (but unfit) and I love steering.
therefore he pulls me round and I steer against him until he remembers
his fitness level and backs off a bit when I row full noise and the
boat goes approximately straight.

We did consider challenging another couple to a fun race at the
Cambridge Autumn Regatta (with Donald Leggatt commentating) but they
had a major "marital" and it never happened!
