Ah, we are so deeply ignored. You can add the Berkeley Rowing and Paddling
Club (Berkeley.) We row on the Aquatic Park in Berkeley (a stretch of
water exactly 1,500 meters long just inside the freeway.) We have an
official phone number, but I can't remember it. If anyone wants
information feel free to call me.

I keep forgetting to get in touch with you regarding this.

The URL for the Lake Merritt site is:

Thanks!

P.S. The site is still a work in progress ...

There's a great site that covers rowing and lots of other sports
in the Bay Area, and don't let the name throw you off -

www.sunshinedaydream.com

They have most of the clubs in the area listed.
As the site points out, the Stanford Boat House is actually
a community rowing center, not Stanford U's team.

This one's over 21 years old. Is that a record?

Wonder if the poster is following the thread.

It precedes the club I'd been teaching at (Bair Island) by 2 years. It was founded by members of the Stanford RC listed above, the web page for it has an ISP managed by compuserve! I know Meredith and her husband Greg, Greg still sculls out of the club, but not as often.

Al Acosta, listed at Oakland, is the current head coach of Cal women, won the NCAA last year. I mis-spelled his name. I don't think I followed the thread since I didn't correct Ed Rosenberg's post, but I do remember updating my list to include Berkeley. Ed was wrong, the Stanford RC rowed outside the "old" Stanford U. boathouse.

I bet it's not the oldest exhumation, but it's an interesting one.

Back in the 90s, I posted to probably 15 usenet groups. A few years ago I looked around to see if any active, "active" defined as ongoing content and a response or to. RSR stacks up pretty well, and movie discussion sites I think have increased traffic since IMDB removed their discussion boards.

I recall there were 5 of the 15 that were "active".

oldest person or longest on RSR? RSR was established in March of 1993 by a young student named Dan Richman, so his 'welcome to rec.sport.rowing' post was the first one. Someone get him to post in 2019 and he'll win it. Before that a number of us were pests on rec.boats.paddle. When google decided to harvest the archive, they didn't get everything so it's not easy to exhume.
