Dear philip,
Once a year around october there is a "race" around Lake Geneva
(Switzerland,France).
Its length is -don't get discouraged- about 180 (hundred eigthy) km. It is
rowed mainly in fours. The start is at 9:00 AM, and I believe the fastest
time so far is around 15 H (forgive me if I'm wrong) I remember seeing it
in the guinness book of records a couple of years ago, although it is not
in the recent copies.
Participating takes more than fitness and skill - make sure you are well
prepaired!
Furthermore, I hear often about races in singlesculls, over a distance of
100 km.
Don't be mistaken-this is another discipline.
Good luck and keep training.

There is a race in the UK called te Boston Marathon (which several readers
of this group have done) and it is 30 miles IIRC (and I hope I do!).

31 miles, and one lock to carry your boat past. 3 hours for a good eight in
good conditions.
