Very sad for this friend, we rowed the eight last year, he was 56 and VERY FIT, training at the gym and in the boat, very well trained and rowing expert.
Nicola Mangialardi of CUS Bari was training in the double with his usual partner when they collided to a pontoon, he was at bow, the boat capsized, he hit his head and fall in water. His partner was not able to take it out of water, he is is still in hospital recovering from the shock.

Too little to understand the dynamics of this terrible thing that make us all ask about the risk we are all running when sculling and rowing on the sea, particularly near marinas and other protected zones, where the water may be flat but the are dangers that you may see too late in lack of a cox or a following motorboat.

Rest in peace Nicola, mike.

So very sad, Mike. Particularly poignant in view of today's other news
- of the discovery of the body of Michael Hill, here on London's Tideway.

Perhaps it's best to go suddenly, & to go while doing what you most
enjoy? But better still to go at a much greater age.

The loss of any rower hits the heart of the rowing community. We share
your sentiments.
