Queens Birthday Honours (UK)

Well from what I can see there is only one rowing related honour and
that is for Chris Morrell of WBS.

A shame really in a sport that is basically run by volunteers.

Even more of a shame when you look at what some of the honours have
been awarded for......

Maybe we should all be more proactive in putting the good volunteers
forward for such honours.

I am delighted that Chris and all he has done have been recognised by
our quaint honours system.

I can think of no rower who, throughout his life, has done more for
junior rowing, and done it more self-effacingly, than Chris Morell. A
great many rowers, and a number of fine coaches, owe their success &
their love of this sport to his dedication, understanding and support.

This has made my day.

As a former Windsor Boys School rower I can echo what a great man
Chris has been working slavishly for the schools pupils. I was in the
first year of his stint at Windsor at the age of 14 and now at 48 he
remains an inspiration and is still very much in evidence when you see
Windsor racing.

Regardless as to what you may think of the honours system I dont think
there could be anyone in this sport who could claim to be a more
deserving candidate than Chris. Congratulations.

Also New Zealand Queen's Birthday Honors 3 for rowing: Barry Cleal of
Auckland Rowing Club, Ivan Sutherland (Marlborough) and Chris Doig

Also Sarah Outen, for 'rowing, conservation and charity.'
Not 'our' sort of rowing, but I think she rowed across the Indian
Ocean a couple of years back.
