I've been posed a question on RowingIllustrated so I've turned to RSR
as the fount of all knowledge! In the past 20 years has any single
oarsmen won all 8's events at Henley (excluding the Temple) so, PE,
Thames, Ladies and Grand? I'm stumped......I reckon there are probably
a few who have done PE, Ladies and Grand but has anyone done all 4?

Jonny Searle is close but only 3

PE with hampton
Grand with GB in 1991,
ladies with Molesey

lots of 2 wins
eg Part of 1996 IC eight won thames in 1995
and
PE winners winning thames/temple or if really good going straight to
squad and having a crack at the Grand

From memory, Stanhope's career progression was Chester City GS -
Liverpool U - Royal Chester, none of whom have (recent) HRR wins. And
the occasional dalliance with Agecroft.

I suspect Thames and Grand is a highly unusual combination. Steve
Simpole maybe?

Simpole definitely won the Thames with LRC lightweights, but I don't
think he ever won the Grand.

How about Chris George, Paul Stuart-Bennett and "Monkey" Mike
Williams? Cox'ns Simon Jeffries and Colin Moynihan must have won
multiple eights events too.

even more of a challenge if they've won Remenham Challenge Cup
too .... possible for a Cox'n of course!

Only in my dreams :-) , but thanks for the thought
(I'm guessing IPS is Ian of the 73 Emanuel first eight, hi how are
you?)

My two wildly different claims to fame for HRR would be shared with
two people I rowed with

a) Glen Hill and I won in an eight, a four and a pair. Not totally
uncommon but a reasonably exclusive club
b) H******y H*****n and I think we joint hold the record for the most
HRR finals LOST. We both lost 8 finals
An experience I very much dont recommend. Especially the Sunday we
lost two in one day

So I'm afraid just a champion loser :-(

There are couple of rowers at my club that have won the PE as coxes
and then gone on to win Senior events. the Thames and Doubles.

I think Louis Attrill won the Temple in 94, Thames 95 and Grand 96.
