Saw the film "Sliding Doors" a few days ago. John Hannah (Four Weddings....)
and Gwyneth Paltrow.

There was a sequence in the film where she watches him race in an 8
along the Tideway. Afterwards they have a pint in the Blue Anchor by
Hammersmith Bridge.

I assume the club colours (light purple I think) are a real clubs. Anyone
know which club? Must be one on the Tideway somewhere.

Sounds like University of London, but I thought that they were based some
way past Mortlake, a long way from Hammersmith.

Is it sad that i may just go and plunk down my $8 to see this move, just to
watch that rowing scene?

Help.

No, it's just sad that you admit it. :)

UL boat from just below Kew Railway bridge, which is about half a mile
up from Chiswick Bridge (of HORR/Boat Race fame).

I've not seen the movie yet, but from a clip in a trailer I'd agree that
he was wearing UL kit. I imagine they were only too happy to take the
cheque!

Actully...what's sad is that you're not the only one. I've got it real
bad...I even rented V.I. Warsawski again for the whole 10 seconds of
shells getting knocked out of the way by cigar boats...well, that and it's
a good movie...

UL's only about half mile above Chiswick Bridge. Hammersmith Bridge is
only about 2 miles by road and 3.25 by river below Chiswick Bridge
hardly a long way. most Tideway Clubs & Colleges will train over the
University course from Putney to Chiswick Bridge and back again or the
other way round if the are based at Kew or Chiswick. So I cant see
anything wrong with that and I expect the film wanted the view from the
pub with the bridge in it etc. (why not its only a story ).

Only way to go backwards.

Great weather in UK currently. Water's warming up. Boats are getting
faster and nature is blooming.
My last scull was a real joy, birds singing bees buzzing and the
boat gliding silently and fast (for me).

Enjoy you rowing/sculling everyone life was meant to be like this.
