I'm facing the possibility of moving to Spain (perhaps Barcelona),
sometime in the future. Since I've become quite a passionate rower in
the past couple of years I'm determined to not move to any place where I
can't get into a boat within cycling distance.
Since my Spanish isn't good enough (yet), I haven't been successful in
finding more than a couple of clubs on the Internet, and I'm clueless as
to whether they're college-only or if they're also open to amateurs in
their mid-thirties like me.
So if anybody knows anything about the general issue "Rowing in Spain",
please pipe up.
Thanks,
**Daniel

Try this : http://www.federemo.org/ (Spanish Rowing Federation)
There you'll find all Spanish Clubs.
If you have already decided to go to Barcelona then check this url :
http://www.federemo.org/directorio/links.php?subtipolink_id=CFCAT&tipolink_id=CF&
Hope it helps.

When you go to Barcelona look at the website from the Catalonian Rowing
Organisation:
I have been rowing in Barcelona in the harbour (yes, in between the big
seaships...) and got some very nice assistance in my weekly training there.
There is a centre in the building of the REIAL CLUB MARITIM BARCELONA where
also the students rowing club from the UPC (three years ago) was located.

Banyoles is of course the more well-known place for 2K rowing in Spain.
They will have the world championships there this year for those who don't
go to Athens.
Good luck getting in contact with Spanish Clubs.

I don't know an awful lot, but I am trilingual Spanish/English/Catalan
so I can help you on any websites if you find a club close-by, happy
to ring up too if you can cover the cost of any phone call :-)
Perillo RC http://clubregatasperillo.com/clubes_de_remo.htm has a list
of links to rowing clubs divided up into each Autonomous Region
(Catalunya is the second from left, middle row) and there you have a
list. However, do be aware that NOT ALL ROWING CLUBS will be using
boats you're familiar with! A lot of clubs, especially in the
Catalunya and Valencia regions, use the llagut-type boats, of which
there is a photo on the Club de Rem Arenys link. This will not be what
you're looking for!
As you can see from the links to Catalan websites, there's a few (and
that's the ones with websites, they are probably a small minority of
those available). A lot of the links are dead, but can be Googled.
The best one is probably the Estany de Banyoles, which is of course
the venue for the Barcelona olympics and this year's world
non-olympics.

Phone calls from Germany to Spain are less than three cents a minute,
but no thanks, I think deciphering Spanish websites is a good supplement
to the Spanish classes I'm currently taking ;-)

You mean those big ones with people sitting side by side? Um... no.
Indeed.
Thanks for the links!
