How 'bout Nelson Royal, Denny Brown, Mike Jackson and the mythical Junior
Heavyweight Titles. And whatever happened to that Black Bart character and his
epic feuds with Sam Houston for the vaunted Mid-Atlantic Title(smirk).

I can add two (one from each) -- Ron Shaw, a jobber in the WWF, who hailed
from King of Prussia, PA. (There was a picture of him in the Philadelphia
Daily News once showing his broken leg). And Denny Brown, the junior
heavyweight champion at one point in the NWA -- who almost always lost on
TV and at house shows.

Not that it matters or anything, but there was a great Mid-Atlantic NWA
jobber named Vernon Deaton. My brother and I had a little Deaton fan club
going every week where we would cheer the inevitable underdog. Well, one
Saturday morning we were watching the TBS show when Deaton was introduced.
Our grandfather was sitting behind us and said, a little surprised, "Hey,
that's Vernon Deaton!" My brother and I yelled, "Of course it's Vernon
Deaton! Go Vernon!" Our grandfather said, "No, you don't understand,
that's Vernon Deaton; he works with me out at Hoechst [a chemical plant
on I-85 between Spartanburg and Gaffney SC]." In spite of our disbelief
that a professional athlete (slight markdom) would have a day job, one
week later we both had autographed 8X10 b/w glossies and an admonishion
not to try any moves at home, as we are still somewhat inclined to do.
While I was always a fan, that cemented Vernon Deaton's place in my heart
as Jobber of the century.

How about these guys;

Gustavo Mendoza (UWF)
The Libyan (UWF)
Mike Bouyett (sp?) (UWF)
Scott McGhee (WWF)
Thunder Foot I & II (NWA)
Golden Terror (NWA)
Dusty Wolf (WWF)
Todd Champion (NWA)
Renee Goulet (WWF)

How about Leaping Lanny Poffo? I thought it was hilarious that when
he knew he wouldn't be able to beat the heel opponent, he would recite
a poem about how the feuding face would later take care of business.
His greatest moment has to be that cheasy count-out victory over Hogan
on SNME with Curt Henning's help.

BTW, the Ding Dongs were in the NWA. Were they the Mulkeys in disguise?

Hee hee! I like Black Bart! At any rate, I remember him teaming with Wild Bill Whatshisname in the days of the GWF.

More jobbers:

George South
Ron Rossi
Tony Zane (???)

Yes, this last point is true ... although it was by disqualification on
"Superstars." It was during the whole Roberts-Martel feud, when Martel
sprayed that "Arrogance" stuff into Jake's eyes. His eyes looked hideous
for weeks afterwards; remember the Brother Love segment where he took off
the sunglasses and looked directly into the camera? Lovely.

Anyway, pertaining to the match itself, Roberts beat the life out of
Stone, and I don't remember if he actually tried to pin him after the
DDT, but he just continually beat on Stone after the bell, and the ref
awarded the match to Stone, if I'm not mistaken.

That could be. All I know is that I only saw him as a jobber in the WWF in
the 1980's.

However, WWF had a sickening habit of making jobbers out of former
superstars. . .or talent that they had no room for at the moment.

Here's some more of early '80s jobbers:

My favorite: Salvatore Bellomo (with his CARTWHEEL move)
Johnny Rodz
Joe Mirto
Tiger Chung Lee
Moondog Rex and Spot (together they were heels,
as singles they were jobbers!)

Speaking of which, can anyone remember when Barry O actually
won a match on WWF Superstars. It was a 6 man tag, and Barry's
heel team won without him actually getting in the ring.

It was Vinnie Valentino. They had him team up in Toronto with Pez Whatley for
a while in a feud with the Grapplers( Denton and Anthony ) during the shows
just before Toronto went WWF in mid 1984 - the end of the NWA era in Canada
for the most part.

Rip Hawk and Swede Hansen were definitely one of the top heel tag teams of the

No confusion. Swede Hansen was part of a major heel team with Rip Hawk in the

Sounds like Bob "Catman" Bradley...also a jobber in the UWF.

In other federations, there was a fellow named "Frenchy" or "Frogman"
LeBlanc who lost every match in the UWF, Jake "the Milkman" Milliman
in the AWA, and Tony Falk in Mid-South.

Does anyone remember when the Midnight Express would wrestler
jobbers(either tag or single) and Jim Cornette would go do commentary
with Ross, Shivone, Crockett, or whoever was announcing and would make
fun of jobbers names? I remember one time they gave Trent Knight the
vegomatic and Cornette yelled,"Good Night, Trent Knight." Well it was
funny at the time.

WWF
Brian McNee: the silent one
David Stoudameyer: Heanan called him Stodabaker
Sal Ballomo: once lost to Heanan
Dublin Destroyer: Big Guy who had a clover on his butt
Tommy Angel: my best friend's brother in law
Dusty/Dale Wolfe:

WCW
Cutis Thompson: later Chip the Firebreaker
Mike Jackson: Alabama Junior Heavyweight Champ I have a mark mag that
does a whole spread of Mike in Alabama with his belt
Bad Bob Cook: The original Bad Guy
Some guy who was the master of the Fireman's Carry: OH NO! Not the
devastating fireman's carry
Anyone remember when WCW did a series of "Battles of the Underdogs" on
Saturday Night. It featured two jobbers fighting. The last one was one
was some masked guy with music and everything(the Vindicator or
something) faught a big black guy who I think also wore a mask (El Negro

< Sounds like Bob "Catman" Bradley.

Bradley did indeed job but usually got in his somersault elbow smash
before succumbing.

And of course, he does have the honor of not jobbing in WCCW, where he won
the Texas Heavyweight Championship from some muscle-bound stiff called The
Dingo Warrior, who ultimately did pretty well in the WWF :-)

Close...Bob Bradley. Also jobbed in World Class and UWF.. Has the
distiction of losing the Texas Championship (excuse me, Marc Lowrance

This is a great thread, but how can you guys have forgotten the old guy
with the ZZ top beard and striped tights. I can't remember his name now
(Moondogie?), but he wrestled on the TBS NWA shows every weekend in the

getting the picture now? He even got a small push for a while when the

This isn't from the 80's, but I was watching a tape with an episode

I noticed Marty Jannetty took on a jobber named "Steve Moore."

Rex King (wasn't he later half of Well Dunn?)

How about the worst wrestler of all time, the Pillsbury Dough-Boy of the mat,
Mario Mancini. The guy has NEVER made an offensive move in his career. Come
to think of it, another no-move guy was Red Tyler, whose great claim to fame
was once he got knocked around by some heel, and his tights rode halfway up
his ass. Vince and whoever was on mic w/him made moon jokes for the rest of

Jimmy Valiant.

His song was "Boy from New York City." His feud was with former
wrestler-then manager Paul Jones (whatever happened to him). The last
fight that I remember was Starcade '86 where they had a hair vs. hair

making fun of piper. piper goes ballistic and beats dale wolf up
, match over a second later.

Yes, that whole series of people jumping ship between Valiant and

The original Moondogs were Rex (Randy Culley) and King (Sailor White).
King had difficulty getting back in to the US, visa trouble, so Spot was
brought in to replace him. Spot, of course, also worked as Larry Latham.

I was under the impression that the substitution was made while they
still had the belts. King had problems getting a passport or something,
and Spot was a last-minute replacement in the championship team.

I know I'm coming in late on this thread... but I was a fan of the
immortal Rusty Brooks.

I've had a discussion on jobbers before...anyone remember a classic
matchup in the WWF where Frankie Williams faced off against Charlie Brown?
Williams won the match after resorting to the dreaded "aggressive
tactics"... anyone remember this or can verify it?

Sounds like I could have halucinated it, but I don't think so.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Mantel(one 'l', I think, now known as Uncle
Zebekiah in the WWF) was part of the infamous Desperadoes trio. If Bart
tagged with Bass in WCW, I don't remember it. Mantel teamed with Bobby
Jaggers in 1986-87 as the Kansas Jayhawks, not Bobby Duncum.

I can't believe that I haven't seen a single mention of
Dave Barbi, from King of Prussia, PA.

(or my all-time, favorite Ref, Dick Worley).
