Predictions for WrestleMania as printed in M. L. Curly's column in
the Detroit News, 4/2/93 (predicted winners IN CAPS [my comments
in brackets]):
Curly's column space was cut short by a large spread on the Steiner
Brothers. As a result, he had no room to explain why he thought
RAZOR RAMON would be victorious over Bob Backlund. [ I wish
he had. I thought Backlund was a pretty good shot to win this
one. ]
Kamala is going to have to learn English from Slick before he can
be really effective in a big match. The San Antonio, Uganda native
is likely to be distracted and lose by countout to BAM BAM BIGELOW,
who will go on to feud with Bret Hart. [ The very idea of any
major star putting up with Kamala's efforts to get him right-side
up is just too ridiculous in my book. ]
CRUSH will even the score with Doink. [ Good riddance to a lousy
feud. ]
En route to a series of matches with Money Inc. that will
ultimately lead to the tag team championship, THE STEINER BROTHERS
will dispose of the Headshrinkers. [ Surest thing of the night. ]
Paul Bearer has his magic urn all charged up, and should it stay
in place, the UNDERTAKER will emerge victorious over Giant Gonzales.
[ I figure by DQ, Whippleman has this way of getting his wrestlers
DQed. ]
Lex Luger may have been hoping for a big win to give him a massive
push, but it appears he will have to settle for a DOUBLE COUNTOUT
with Mr. Perfect. The biggest question is what role the mirror
will play in the match. [ I thought McMahon's offhand comment
about seeing something odd about Luger's forearm might be a clue
that Luger might get DQed here, but that is a thin thread indeed. ]
SHAWN MICHAELS would be a sitting duck for Tatanka were it not
for Michaels' new manager, Luna Vachon, who is expected to
debut at 'Mania. Michaels faces Brutus Beefcake next. [ And
a feud between Sherri and Luna? ]
With Hogan back in the WWF, Bret Hart has no business being WWF
champ, so he will duly lose the title to YOKOZUNA. Watch for
a possible run-in by Hacksaw Jim Duggan, who is programmed
with 'Zuna for the summer. [ So Bret Hart *isn't* going to
be tagging with Owen after all? Then I have two problems
with Hart dropping the belt. One, Jim Duggan going for the
WWF belt? Two, just how many matches is Hulk back in the WWF
for? I never heard about more than one, myself. So who wins
the belt back from 'Zuna? ]
And, of course HULK HOGAN AND BRUTUS BEEFCAKE are guaranteed
victory over Money, Inc., just because. The belts, however,
are destined for the Steiners, so DiBiase and IRS will retain
them for now. [ Actually, Curly doesn't say who gets the
belts, but there is a fair implication here. ]
