i recall reading that he's only won it like 5 times or so....not as much
as he's won the heavyweight title. i don't know where he came up with
the49 times he's won the US title.

Here are Ric Flairs' United States Heavyweight Championships:

NWA United States Championships:
1) Flair d. Bobo Brazil 09/77 loses to Wahoo Mcdaniel, 07/77 ,
Norfolk,VA,
but this is a disputed loss; may never have actually
lost title
2) Flair d. McDaniel ??? (his loss to McDaniel is disputed, as
his regaining
of the title is as well; he next loses to Steamboat in 1977
3) Flair d. Mr. Wrestling II 05/78 - loses to
Steamboat,12/18/78,Toronto, ON
4) Flair d. Steamboat 04/01/79 - Vacates title in 08/79 when he
wins the
NWA World Tag-Team Championship
5) Flair d. Jimmy Snuka 04/19/80 Greensboro, NC- loses to Greg
Valentine
on 07/26/80 in Charlotte, NC
6) Flair d. Valentine 11/24/80 Greenville, NC- Loses to Roddy
Piper,01/27/81
Raleigh, NC

WCW United States Heavyweight Championships:
1) Flair d. Konan ??? (Dont know dates, I was on Vacation!!!!!!)

So there.....He has 7 total reigns as US champion (6 if you dont count
the disputed one, but i do)

well, i've got to wonder if that 49 comes from the times when he also
held the world title...i'm unsure how it works, but could it be that
each time he defeated the US champ (#1 contender) he he "won" the
belt, but would of course not keep it..after all it's a step
down..just a thought..
