Galavision Lucha Libre TV Review #28
CMLL TV 8/8/98
By ste...@kern.com

Apolo Dantes/Villanos IV,V vs Shocker/Emilio Charles Jr/Angel Azteca
The tecnico team wins the first fall with a Shocker Asai moonsault and
pin on a Villano. The rudos take fall two. Charles dives off the apron
crotch first onto Dantes. Los Villanos powerslam and vertical suplex
Shocker and Azteca for the match. Mediocre action, but not bad.

Guerrero de la Muerte/Violencia/Karloff Lagarde Jr vs Tony Rivera/
Mascara Magica/Ringo Mendoza
The rudo team takes the match in two consecutive falls. The match was
mostly brawling between Muerte and Rivera, with Rivera getting cut open
early on in fall one. Rivera is fouled in the corner during fall two
for the rudo victory. Probably setting up a hair or title feud between
the two over the summer and fall. Pretty much boring action wise, but
the crowd seemed to get into it well enough.

Black Warrior/Villano III/Satanico vs Felino/Negro Casas/Tinieblas Jr
The rudo team takes the first fall. The tecnicos take the second with
a Felino powerbomb pin reversal on a Warrior springing head scissors
attempt. Tinieblas dives over the top with a pescado onto Satanico.
Negro and Felino pin Warrior and Villano III with double majistral
cradles for the match. Another average effort.

Hermanos Dinamita vs Brazo de Plata/Rayo de Jalisco Jr/Atlantis
The tecnicos take the first fall due to the Dinamitas brawling too
roughly with Porky. Rayo dives off the top to the floor with a plancha
onto Cien. Porky pins Ano with a vertical splash for the match. Below
average match action wise.

Next up is a Momentos Estelares moves of the week segment. First is a
ladies tag match where one lady does a crotch dive off the apron, then
another lady flips off the top into a reverse ankle scissors roll up.
Then Guerrero de la Muerte fouls Tony Rivera. Felino reverses Black
Warrior's attempted head scissors. Last up is Sendero diving through
the ropes into the aisle with a tope suicida onto Angel Blanco Jr.

Scorpio Jr vs Hijo del Santo - Leyenda de Plata
Santo takes a vertical suplex, then choke slam, then pump handle slam,
then choke sleeper, followed by a dragon sleeper for the Scorpio fall.
Santo comes off the top head first with an old style in ring tope,
making good contact with Scorpio's jaw. Right into the camel clutch for
the Santo fall. Scorpio gets a near fall with a dragon sleeper then
powerbomb. Santo goes through the ropes and near the post with a tope
suicida onto Scorpio. Scorpio is superplexed off the top, followed by
an old style somersault head first tope off the top for a Santo near
fall. Santo attempts a second tope suicida, but it's evaded, causing
Santo to side flip onto his hip fairly hard. Santo is stretchered out,
giving the match and trophy to Scorpio Jr. Scorpio Jr is presented with
the original Santo's mask on a plaque, by Scorpio Sr and Dr Alfonso
Morales. Pretty good action, Santo should be taking Scorpio Jr's mask
before the year is over.

You don't give the bladejob justice, Steve. Tony juiced HUGE, to the
point where he soaked his entire upper torso.

Indeed. Did you see the girl crying her eyes out while Tony was
getting destroyed by DLM? It was great. =)

They set up a hair/hair match between Porky and Ano 2000 for next week
if I'm not mistaken, and I'm guessing that Porky loses. He just beat
Markus last month for *his* hair, and this would be like revenge for
Ano.

Lady Apache. That move was SWEET! Apache jumps off the top,
grabs the opponent (Diabolica?) by her neck with her ankles and does a
sunset flip. Too cool.

You forgot the opening- they have some painted setup on one side of
the arena with Santo and Scorpio's names on it. Scorp runs over and
starts to spraypaint over Santo's name as air-raid sirens start to go
off throughout the building. Scorp then runs off, just as Santo
DRIVES THROUGH THE PAINTING at the wheel of a yellow conbvertible!
I was disappointed that he wasn't driving the silver MG like his dad
used to tool around in in those movies, but WTHey. =)

My guess too- Anniversary show, anyone?

No kidding. These shows are suffering without guys like Virus/Oriental/Aguila
ect not opening with a good fast paced spot match.

You're right, he was soaked bigtime.

Other kids were bawling too. Cool stuff. Is this Rivera's third hair/mask
feud? Is he as popular as Garza was a few years back? The kids like him a lot.

It gives these guys something to do. So Ano loses to Porky, then Cien takes
Porky's hair?

Yep, are the ladies and minis pretty much dropped now compared to a year ago?

I saw it in fast forward. Sounds like a good set up though. I'll need to
rewatch it.

Sounds reasonable. They just cut that feud off after a too fast build a few
months back.

1-I am forbidden by my religous beliefs to discuss Markus.
2-SOBs at Gala showed lucha at 1pm PDT-I missed it.
3-Gala Lucha is at 10pm EDT this weekend, but 7 on the west coast.
They're doing 1 feed bc of live futbol. (Give or take 1 hr.)
4-The ads for the Vamp/Santo/Wagner/Pirata/Panther tour should start
running. Somebody tape it in case my timer f's up. They're using my
stuff-and I'll be in Alaska.

Kind of hard to tell, but the "cowboy" gimmick seems tailor-made for
the kiddies. I think this his second blood feud in EMLL (first was
Valentine Mayo). They basically did the same thing with him that they
did with Garza back in '95 when he was just getting the big push,
having him get some heat by getting destroyed night in and night out
by Satanico and later El Brazo, then taking their hair in the end.

No, I'm guessing that Ano wins. Markus is part of the Dinamitas/Capos

group, so Ano takes revenge on Porky for Markus. Bob, you reading
this? Mind cluing us in on what happened this weekend? =)

They're not getting shown on TV as much as in the past, but they're
still out there. The last minis match from EMLL I can remember was
back in May/June when Bracito De Oro KILLED HIMSELF DEAD going
for the Shiryu dive on Pierrotito. Sickest bump I ever saw- basically
he took a running start, somersaulted through the ropes and gave
himself a Tiger Driver '91 ON THE FLOOR. That hurt *me*.

Too bad Rivera isn't all that good compared to Garza. My buddy Rob said
Rivera took Reyes Veloz's mask a while back.

Should be a bloody match. Markus vs Oro a while ago was decent. Markus wasn't
bad, Oro did his best stuff well.

Yep, I saw that highlight. A TD '91 full force on hard wood. Pierrotito
couldn't save him the way Bracito was barreling down. They really need
to show minis more often, the shows are too monotonous with midcarders only,
with a mediocre main.
