Yep. They paid me $20 for them to cut my hair into a 1920s style and $100 a
day for three days. Not much compared to what others in the Atlanta area
have done...small drop in the bucket, really...BUT I was floored when I saw
some angel of an editor had thought my head-tilt reaction shot was good
enough for the .023 seconds or however long it was to make the final cut.
I have the DVD copy and occassionally freeze-frame that shot. I love it. My
first "real" movie and I end up on camera. Kick-ASS.
Now I just have to hurry up and get out of the newspaper industry and start
finding work as a production assistant or casting associate or some other
[x] associate or [x] assistant. Problem is that might entail a move to
Atlanta, and I'll need SOMETHING to pay the bills. I'm sure as hell not
moving back home for that. I'll make my own dreams happen, thankyouverymuch!

No real "character" to speak of. It's about an hour and 30, hour and 40 into
the film at the doctor's convention FDR crashes to try to get them to show
up at Warm Springs to help legitimize it and get a full-time doctor for the
grounds. I was one of about 80 or so men who played extras and just happened
to be one of the luckier ones who made it on screen. Line or no line I'm
still proud of that shit and always will be. I nearly sent a thank-you card
to the editors.
The real shock came about four months later when I found out the room we
were in was not only in the exact same building FDR had crashed some seventy
plus years before, but the exact same ROOM was the room the convention was
held in.
We pitiful background extras, with our hot, stuffy suits and lack of air
conditioning (the noise muffled the shooting so they had to turn it off
during takes) were re-creating history exactly (well more or less) as it had
happened.
I mean, damn. It's one thing to be on a movie set, it's another to be where
it all went down. That's like filming a movie about Gettysburg right on the
battlefield where blood ran.

There are several film companies looking for areas to build in the
Baton Rouge area. One (Forget who) has bought a large are of land and
will begin building in 07 on their "Hollywood South" production
lot/studio. It's supposed to be several TV/movie stage sets so that TV
shows and movies can be produced here over long periods. We keep
getting more and more films coming here over everyone inc. Canada,
because Louisiana passed some law for movie studios to film/produce
here almost tax-free.
Baton Rouge is always an option for you, cost of living is dirt cheap.
We have the best food in the world not to mention the hottest "Easy"
women ever !

I work regularly as a background performer here in Toronto. Being a
background extra is no big deal. I personally like doing it sometimes
because it's fun and easy work.

Inman Park while they were shooting at Agnes Scott, but my hopes of being an
extra were dashed when I found out they were primarily only using students
from Georgia State.
Now there's signs for something called "O-Town" filming near me. About three
months ago, a thriller called "One Missed Call" was filming in the park
behind my condo.

hippest new location for major studio films. A friend of mine in L.A. just
wrapped a feature he wrote and had wanted to shoot it here, but it's
actually gotten too expensive, so he went to Phoenix instead.

I wouldn't say "easy." The waiting is annoying. Two hours on a twelve hour
day sometimes? Or worse? Thank god there's so many rules and regulations put
down by Hollywood that govern how long those sort of things happen.
Pay's not bad, though it depends on the studio and/or project. Many here in
Georgia are "credit, copy and meals, no pay."

The students were apparantly one of the smaller reasons filming stopped.
Seems the real reasons were financial and the fact that the movie wasn't as
funny as it needed.
