Brief report from MSG

1. Dustin Rhoads over Paul Diamond

Hard fought, reasonable match for the bottom of the card. First
time I've seen Dustin in the WWF. I've missed the TV for the past
two weeks. Has he been on? Dustin did a flying forearm and then
an elbow drop to the sternum to pin Diamond.

2. Nikolai Volkoff vs. Sgt. Slaughter,

Nikolai entered to "Stars and Stripes Forever". Sgt. did heel
stuff. "Slaughter" names the Sgt and describes how he works.
Pulling punches a foot away, few moves, either on the mat or
anywhere else. I think he used to be better before he got old and
fat. And the Sgt. won with the *Camel Clutch*, the Iron Shiek's
old move. Whoopie!

3. The Barbarian vs. Tito Santana

We know who the heel is here: The Barbarian had Heenan with him.
Santana lost, as he is wont to do these days. Nothing special.

4. Power and Glory vs. Marty Jannetty

The ref flipped a coin to decide which of Power and Glory would
face Marty. Roma was the one "randomly selected". Marty
Frankensteinered Roma, (I think), early on, but of course it
wasn't a finishing move. Jannetty dominated, but Herc interfered,
and Roma got the pin, with Janetty's legs both out through the
ropes.

5. Bob Bradley vs. Rugged Ronnie Garvin.

Bob Bradley stuck his tongue out at the camera. After a number
of minutes, he lost to Garvin. Monsoon liked it.

6. Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

It's hard to believe that this is the same Rick Rude who, just a
few weeks ago was supposed to be a credible opponent for UW.
Duggan won by DQ when Rick tossed the ref across the ring (and out
of the way) when the ref tried to get between him and Duggan.
Duggan dominated much of the match.

After a short break, the Brain insulted Bossman's mother until Hacksaw
chased him from the ring.

7. Six man tag: Demolition vs. LOD & UW.

You know what they are, you know what they do. They did it. UW
is better in a tag match because (a) he has time to rest and (b)
he isn't in all of the time so you can watch someone else. UW got
the pin with his typical finish. Overall impression: Silly.

Sgt. Slaughter used to call the move the "Cobra Clutch". I remember him
using it when he wrestled for Verne Gagne in the AWA. I had a friend
send a tape of 8 hours of wrestling from Atlanta and the Sgt. was the
commentator for the LPWA (Ladies wrestling). He was wearing a camoflaged
blazer and he did a credible job.

Wait a minute! The Cobra Clutch, isn't that the move that is now called
the Million Dollar Dream by Ted Dibiase. The camel clutch is the move used
by the Iron Sheik to get the WWF title from Bob Backlund back in '83 (or
was it '84)?

Cheers,
Alan

That's what I thought. The Camel Clutch is when the wrestler with the
hold, sits on the back of the other wrestler, and pulls up on the chin
with both hands. The Cobra Clutch is what DiBase is currently using
as his finishing move. Probably why the sarge can't use it, and the
camel clutch ties him closed to the shiek.

I think that the hold Dibiase is using is a pretty standard sleeper hold
the cobra clutch ties up one of the arms of the oponent in the hold.

Sheik Adnan al Kaise (sorry General) used to use a move he called the Camel
clutch but that was just an adominal stretch. If I remember correctly,
Adnan is from Turkey.
