I hate to perpetrate something that half the readers of RSPW are probably
placing in their kill files, but I can't help myself. Here goes...
1) Nasty Boys vs. Beverly Brothers
Nasties have had title shots in the past 4 months; the Beverlies
have lost to the Miricle Jobber Connection... 'nuff said.
BOTTOM LINE: NASTY BOYS VIA PINFALL
2) Bob Backlund vs. Razor Ramon
I don't think Vince got Backlund to return by promising a chance
to job at his first WM... Even though I'd be willing to bet that
Razor is Tatanka's first I-C challenger (after rematches with Shawn
Michaels), I think he's going to have to drop this one.
BOTTOM LINE: BACKLUND VIA PINFALL (But Ramon dominates most of match)
3) Steiner Brothers vs. Headshrinkers
This will be a good match... Really. The Headshrinkers are
starting to grow on me, and the Steiners usually put on a good
The difference is that (like Backlund) the Steiners didn't come
to the WWF to get beat in their first really big match. But since
the 'Shrinkers are the WWF's big heel team of the next few months,
I forsee a slightly inconclusive ending.
BOTTOM LINE: STEINERS BY DQ (when Afa gets involved)
4) Crush vs. Doink
I'd love to see Doink win this one; he deserves a push so much
more than Crush. And I might be able to argue why: in a few
recent house shows, Crush has been beating Doink with the
Cranium Crusher. But there's no way that this ending will be
re-used at WM. Crush beats Doink at the house shows to placate the
assembled fans, but at the big PPV, Doink will get the push he
so richly deserves (and needs, to propel him through the summer
before the gimmick starts to get stale).
BOTTOM LINE: DOINK VIA SCREW JOB (and acid-squirting flower???)
5) Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzales
Even though Undertaker is the more exciting of the two, and maybe
the WWF's biggest draw, recent indications point to a Gonzales
victory. He laid out UT in a one-on-one match that was part of the
WWF/USWA talent exchange; and he left Mr. Perfect _AND_ Bret Hart
lying in the middle of the ring after they defeated Lex Luger and
Razor Ramon at Madison Square Garden. Gonzales is actually being
pushed harder right now.
BOTTOM LINE: GONZALES VIA PINFALL (UT will win a post match scuffle)
6) Tatanka vs. Shawn Michaels
Sure, Michaels is the better wrestler, but Vince has been saving up
the "Undefeated Native American" (tm) for over a year now. This
match will be the big payoff. Plus, all the hints for the marks
are firmly in place (the two non-title pinfalls).
BOTTOM LINE: TATANKA WITH THE PAPOOSE-TO-GO
7) Mr. Perfect vs. Lex Luger
Like everyone else, I believe this is the one "too-close-to-call"
match on the card. Both men are getting pushed hard and both will
probably hold WWF gold at some point in the next year or two. Even
though I'd like to see Hennig give Luger a wrestling lesson, I
I'll be settling for something a little less conclusive.
BOTTOM LINE: DOUBLE DQ (the mirror & a steel chair will be involved)
8) Mega-Maniacs vs. Money, Inc.
No, Hogan can't lose... Yes, the Steiners will probably be the next
tag team champs... No, the WWF isn't gutsy enough to pull off the
heavily hinted at Brutus heel-turn (Shakespeare in the WWF?!?!?! I
don't think so).
BOTTOM LINE: MEGA-MANIACS BY DQ (when Money, Inc. decides to try
their armor-piercing briefcase
out on Bruti's face)
9) Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna
Bret Hart has been handling Yoko at house shows all over the place;
so applying the same logic as I did for the Doink match, it seems
likely that the old "switch and reverse" means a new WWF Champion.
But something tells me that it won't happen. With all the build
up (music videos in his honor and all), Bret seems to be getting
a "Hogan-esque" push. He may be the man to carry the WWF for years
to come. He will get past Yokozuna, and then proceed with a much
more interesting fued with Bam Bam Bigelow.
BOTTOM LINE: HART VIA PINFALL (when Fuji's interference backfires)
More than anything, I hope I'm right about the World Title match; Yoko
as a world champion doesn't work... even if he's just holding it until
the first time he gets in the ring with Hogan. And if Hogan's going to be
champion again, I'd much rather see him take it from Hart in an actual
wrestling match; I think Hart can make Hogan look good.
With my luck, I'll get 8 out of 9 matches right, and Yokozuna will be our
new WWF Heavyweight Champion.
Later...
