1 ) Nature Boy Buddy Rogers
2 ) Lou Thesz
3 ) Ric Flair
4 ) Bruno Sammartino
5 ) Dory Funk
6 ) Harley Race
7 ) Verne Gagne
8 ) Nick Bockwinkle
9 ) Don Leo Jonathon
10) Dick The Bruiser (if anyone wants to do tag teams the Bruiser and
Ray "The Crippler" Stevens are #1)
going for an even dozen, there's
11) Jack Brisco
and, as a woman, I can't forget
12) The FABULOUS MOOLAH

I became familiar with many of these wrestlers through looking at dozens

Hulk Hogan (Top 5: before everyone got sick of him, he had the Best
All-Time Gimmick in Wrestling...hulking up, etc.), Buddy Rogers (Top 5:
the original Nature Boy), Bruno Samartino (Top 5: with all due respect to
the Hulkster, Sammartino may have been the best champ ever in the WWF),
Jerry Lawler (possibly Top 10: sucks now, but is the Backbone of Southern
wrestling which is saying a lot), Antonino Rocca (an "early" aerialist)

ON Faith, "Georgeous George", never saw him wreslte, but on legend alone
he has to be up there. He was proably a combination of Ric Flair and
Goldust for his time.

Honorable mentions:

Dusty Rhodes (never a good athlete, but a great, entertaining character
which is what sports entertainment is about)

Harley Race (Forgotten great wrestler)

Jimmy Snuka (he was the Sabu of the 80's)

Bob Backlund (really underrated, could put up some great battles in the
late 70's early 80's)

Nick Bockwinkel, Larry Zybysko, Verne Gagne

P.S People seem to be forgetting about the years before 1980 when they're
making their lists.

Hacksaw... yes...
The Bushwackers... Yes..

Though they are funny as hell, they can't wrestle worth a damn..
BUt Jake..<standing on Soapbox> Okay, so Jake the Snake is older then the
hills, but in this thread, I have noticed that alot of people have Ric
Flair included in their lists, some as #1. Now, Ric is one of the best
characters ever in wrestling, still is. Years ago, he was great, I never
considered him the greatest at any time, but he was a great technition<sp>
On the other hand, the same can be said about Jake, jake was a great
technition back in the day, never got a title, but.. much like Flair, an
old-as-the-hills Jake Roberts has returned. He has his character down,
much like flair, but neither man is capable of what they used to be
capable of. In Ric's case, he's jeopardising his legend status every time
he steps back into the ring. Also, if we're only using wrestlers from the
modern era, I can think of a bunch who would destroy Flair in a
shootfight... Lets see, Bret Hart, Sabu, Dean Malinko, Shawn Michaels,
fuck.. even Duke "The Dumpster" Droese. To Jakes credit, he still has the
best DDT in wrestling, to Ric's credit, he still has one of the best
characters, beyond that, both men are a shell of the men they used to be..

Aw, come on. How can you flame someone for taking Verne Gagne and Lou
Thesz off of a Top 10 list and replacing them with Hacksaw & the
Bushwackers.

I hope you know I'm kidding - I'm surprised Doink, the Red Rooster, &

You havent been watching wrestling for very long, have you? First off,
you can't spell and secondly, Verne Gagne was a AWA World Champion many
times. Brush up on your wrestling history before you send in such stupid

My picks for the top ten wrestlers of at least the past ten years:

1. Bret Hart

This man has, directly or indirectly, beaten every top competitor. He
obviously beat Ric Flair at his near-best (mind you, in '92 Flair was
starting to slip) and he's beaten many of the men who have beaten Hulk
Hogan. Scott and Nash were no match, nor, really, was Calloway or
Michaels (I still think the better man did _not_ win at WMXII). Randy
Savage lost to him, Roddy Piper, Mr. Perfect...the list continues. Bob
Backlund ultimately couldn't handle him...The only one who Bret likely
would not win against would be Andre.

2. Andre the Giant

The original, battle-royal-winning, giant of a man. This man helped write
quite a few legends for the annals of wrestling....

3. Ric Flair

The dirtiest player in the game, the most charismatic...but not the best.

4. Dynamite Kid

Personally, I preferred him to Davey Boy as my favorite British Bulldog.
As an aerialist, there were few to touch him at his peak; after the
grounding he received in December 1986, though, he truly showed his
tenacity and perseverence by winning after so much punishment...one of
the few true underdogs in the business...

5. Hulk Hogan

I still can't stand him, but I must admit here his influence on the
business. For three years, at least, we believed his credo and thought he
was immortal. The heat he generated was immense in his day. Sadly, we're
all a little older and wiser, but the book is not finished on this man.

6. Davey Boy Smith

Actually, I could probably insert the entire Stampede organization's
alumni in here (with the notable exceptions above). But, Davey Boy was
always considered as the second powerhouse (after Hogan then, and now
after Ahmed). Technically sounder, really, than either; I prefer to
remember him as one-half of one of the really great tag teams.

7. The Road Warriors

Clearly, the greatest tag team in the history of pro wrestling...'nuff said.

8. The Von Erichs

I list them collectively because they made Texas wrestling together;
together, though, they also made the profession's first great family
tragedy. Clearly, the stuff of legends

9. Shawn Michaels

Why so low, you ask? He is truly a great wrestler, and may well be the
next Ric Flair. Problem is, Ric's still 'rasslin', and Shawn's not proven
himself yet as a champion; too many controversial matches have done to
his reign what they could not do to Bret's: they have tainted it. Shawn's
moment in the sun is close at hand, but it is not here yet...

10. Randy "Macho Man" Savage

One of the most outrageous personalities in the business, he was far more
effective as a heel than as a face...the heat he drew could make a hero
out of anyone who could beat him. Made us see a glimpse into Bret Hart's
future back in '88...

Honourable mentions:
Jerry Lawler
Jake the Snake Roberts
the Freebirds
King Kong Bundy
The Hart Foundation (B. Hart and Neidhart)

friends. on camera Macho Man is supossed to not like him. Same with
Hall (Razor Ramon), and Nash (Diesal). They might of had there
differances on camera, but off camera, there friends."

Not any more you little candy ass sissy boy! Didn't you see what Hogan
did to Macho Man? He jumped him and whooped his ass! Hulk is a no good
back stabber who deserves to have his ass tied up and tortured. He might
have been a real American in the past but now he's a low down dirty ass
money grubbing low-life who turns on his friends. He is shit and Macho

Very good list, and brings back a few memories... The Funk family a
dynasty, Nature Boy Buddy Rogers, and Pat O'Connor were also great in
their day... How about Dusty Rhodes?

I give a thumbs up for the late, great Andre the Giant. Towards the end
of his career the WWF made a fool out of him... He was great with kids and
has been sorely missed... The current WCW champion I am sure would be a
slap in the face to Andre... The Giant (WCW) is nothing more than a cheap
imitation...

Ric Flair won the WWF title twice. Once by winning the Royal Rumble. In
the Rumble, Hulk Hogan was tossed out by Sid Justice (he of the many
"Sid" names), then began pulling on Sid's arm to force him out also.
Flair took advantage of their scuffle and shoved Sid over the top rope.

Flair's second title reign began when he defeated Randy Savage with the
figure-four leglock. Savage passed out from the pain.

I don't know if most of these guys belong on such a list. Let's see the ten
best of all time... Here's my opinion on who should be on this list, not
neccessarily in the order of importance.

1. Gorgeous George - Never saw him wrestle, but he is the one credited with
bringing popularity to the sport back in the 50's.

2. Hulk Hogan - For bringing wrestling back from the verge of death in the
80's!

3. The Sheik - This guy was an animal!

4. Lou Klein - Probably one of the finest scietific wrestles of this century.

5. Bobo Brazil - God I can remember the fueds between Bobo, The Shiek, and
Pomparo Firpo "Bull of the Pompus!"

6. Nick Bockwinkle

7. Larry "The Axe" Hennig - His son Mr. Perfect can't carry his dad's jock
strap!!!

8. Ric Flair - I may hate him, but I believe he is amongst the top ten!

9. Randy Savage

10. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
