Okay, my mom wanted to go to a local casino for Christmas brunch.
Fine, we go and she gives me $100, I take $20 and go to a nickle
blackjack table ($5 a hand). There was this one woman there who
didn't know shit about blackjack. One hand she gets 9-9 (18) against
a dealer's 6. The right move is to stand. THIS GOOFY BITCH SPLITS
THEM! gets two 10s to go with the nines. I had 10-10 (20), so I
stood. The dealers down card was a 10, so he had 16, he has to take
a hit. He hits a 5! 21! The entire table shot daggers at her.
If she didn't split, the dealer would have busted. Now nobody wins.

Lesson of the story is simple. If you are at a table I'm playing and
you split 9s or 10s, I WILL BUST YOU IN THE MOUTH!!! Just sayin'.

YOU ONLY SPLIT 8s and aces.

She played it right. You are supposed to split two nines against a
dealer's six. With almost all pairs, you split when a dealer is at
2-6. You stand with dealer holding 7-10. When you have two nines
showing, you should split on all cards except for a seven (where the
dealer will have to stand on 17, losing to your 18), a ten (you are
most likely going to lose to 20 anyway and it is better to lose only
one bet instead of two), and an ace (same reason as 10). Then again, I
never play the game. Too complicated and too many people at the table
thinking like you.

Another reason why I don't play blackjack. I've watched the game too
many times at casinos where the dealer, sitting with a 16, comes up
with a five.

You made two mistakes.

First, you don't blame your losses on anyone else's play. (The first
time I ever played blackjack in Vegas, I had a 16 with a dealer
showing a 10. Since it was a five-deck game, I hit, like I am
supposed to, and drew a 2; the dealer turned over a 5, and took a 5. I
was the last player before the dealer, and the guy before me, who had
an 18, turned to his SO and says, "Well, I lost because he didn't
stand on 16 like he's supposed to.") It could have just as easily
went the other way.

Second, you DO spilt 9s with a 6 showing - the only times you don't
split 9s is with Ace, 7, or 10 showing. (I'll take my decades of
studying this along with computer analysis over whatever tea leaves
you looked into, thank you very much.)
Here's the split list:
Aces, 8s - always
5s, Tens - never
2s, 3s, 7s - with 2-7 showing
4s - with 5-6 showing
6s - with 3-6 showing
9s - with 2-6 or 8-9 showing

YOU ALWAYS SPLIT 8's and Aces. Not only. You need to at least learn
some basic strategy befoe to play any blackjack or complain about
other peoples play.
