Alright, I'm not sure how many of you read comics but I had a question I
can't find out on the Google or Wiki.
I just bought The Punisher Omnibus and in the issue #16 titled Vertical
Challenge (Spoiler: in which the Punisher and Wolverine fight a bunch of
midgets who are cutting off the legs of mobsters) in said issue
Wolverine refers to himself as "The Ol' Canucklehead" and I can't find
out how he came into calling himself that.
The only information I was able to find online was that (apparently)
everyone knew he was called that but me. And then that "Canucklehead"
seems to means "A Canadian of limited intelligence" (based off the only
definition of the word I can find on "UrbanDictionary.com") Which by
that definition it would seem that Wolverine is insulting himself, which
is odd to me because he's got that whole short-guy complex.
So if anyone knows what "Ol' Canucklehead" mean and when/why wolverine
is called that could you please let me know, it's kind of bugging me.
Thanks, and sorry if my post is a little long.

It is Wolverine, after all. He's probably just takin' the piss, making
fun of himself. He seems to be a good humoured character.. When he's
doing it, anyway.

Wolverine is Canadian. Canuck is slang for Canadian. Obviously it's some
kind of witicism.

I think you're reading too much into your comic books.

As far as I was aware, it's got something to do with him being canadian
and violent. I have nfi really, though. I'm aussie. Damned if I
understand the relationship between the US and Canada.

I applaud you on your dedication to comics. I put the ultimate sandman
vol. 2 on my chrissy list this year! I've heard the reference before,
but have no idea what it means. I'd go with what the others are saying
above.

I find it funny that while you wonder why he calls himself that (canuck)
you don't question why a hairy bad ass dude uses the name for a FEMALE
wolf as his alias.

Where the hell did you get that from? A wolverine is a small animal with
long claws and is a part of the weasel family.

haha, quality burned. on my first post too.
I got it from my crazy father, although he did tell me elephants are
scared of mice because they run up their trunks and eat their brains, so
me thinks I shouldn't listen to him any more? or repeat his facts, on
such serious business as the internet.

Well, if it means a Canadian of limited intelligence, then it fits well.
a) He's Canadian (I believe), and b) he's not one of the smart X-Men.
He's one of the brute strength slash and tear kinda fellas. Also, the
claws come out of his knuckles, hence "ca knuckle"

I assume it's a canadianized version of Knucklehead. I dunno, I think
I've used the term before.
I think the term fits though, did anyone ever read the Joss Whedon run
where Wolverines train of thought is paralleled with another characters
during a fight?
Wolverines amounts to "...I like beer'

Actually, I think they tested this on Mythbusters, and elephants ARE
scared of mice.
P.s. Wolverine is jerk

I think the more important question is "will I get Frank Miller's Ronin
for christmas from my wife?" I've told her it's what I want but I don't
know if she got it for me.

Dude back before Wolverine became the total pansy ass he is today he
used to get drunk and then let his friends shoot him for shits and
giggles. Dude has no problem making a joke of himself.

I think it's something Deadpool has called him in the past. I'm not one
hundred percent sure on that though.

Yes, and I would add that knucklehead is by no means derogatory coming
out the mouth of Wolverine when adressing himself. Plus, the authors
probably didn't go look up in Urbandictionary before they wrote that
line. Urbandictionary is full of crap/bogus/badly made-up definitions.

Actually, it's just knucklehead, with the "k" sounded out.

is it one of those comic book laws I hear of?, like not putting the
letter L and I next to each other, to stop the villians having "fuck"
knives, instead of "flick" knives?

about a play in a Canucks game.

The Euphemism of Canuck for a Canadian never made sense to me. We don't
call Amercians Yankee-oh wait. Now it does.

I can't really confirm it, either. But it sure seems like something

That seems the most plausible explanation, it agrees with the reasons
behind some of the others too

It is, i.e. Wolverine is Canadian and tough, there is of course the self
deprecation, which he's alright with, 'cause he's tough.
It sounds like a pretty old issue too, Punisher and Wolverine it would
have to be early / mid nineties? It is very likely that he wasn't
regularly called that by anyone, the term may or may not have come up in
earlier issues with Wolverine, but it is most likely a writer thinking
it was clever, it rings of an older writing style.
This is just about the geekiest thing I have seen on this forum too,
maybe you should write into Marvel for a "No Prize", as it stands you
are reading too much into it, syndicated comic books are notorious for
not following an established canon or model sheet when it is convenient.
And Wolverine is not a Vancouver Canucks fan.

Canada is America's hat. That's the relationship. No, there's only 1
Canadian that I don't like (My step-son's dad) and he got deported last
year so I really don't have to deal with him anymore...
