A few months ago we heard that horror master Stephen King would
return to the universe of his classic novel The Shining with a sequel
novel. Now it seems Warner Bros. may also be getting into the act of
continuing the story, but they want to know what happened before all
work and no play made Jack something something.
A source inside the studio told the Los Angeles Times that Shutter
Island writer Laeta Kalogridis (who also had a hand in James Cameron's
Avatar) has been drafted to shepherd the prequel project alongside her
partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt. A WB spokesperson
countered the news by noting that if such a film is in development, it's
not officially in development, and it's in the very early stages.
The film (if it's real, that is) would be based more on Stanley
Kubrick's classic 1980 film than King's original 1977 novel (there are
some key differences), and would chronicle what happened before Jack,
Wendy and Danny Torrance arrived at the creepy Overlook Hotel. Whether
that means it would follow the family or the hotel, we're not sure, but
our money's on the hotel.
Either way, even if it is in the works, Warner Bros. definitely doesn't
seem ready to confirm they're going for yet another prequelization to
add to things like The Hobbit. What do you think? Are you interested in
