suburban white kids find him cool

Sure, after two years of crappy rap and you complain when someone talented
is most popular. Cash Money and Jay Z suck.

And Master P's 400 hundred albums in one years wasn't a signal?

I'm still trying to figure out how you went from Eminem to Christina
Aguilera and Fred Durst. Anyways, Eminem is a damn good rapper. He may be
"pop" (even though he doesn't want to be), he may annoy you, but he's still
a really good rapper.

Disco was around for about 5 years. Rap's been around twenty. I don't think
it's going to dissappear, like it or not.

Lol.

Disco just went underground, changed its name, and now I hear the same
damn "club" music every freaking place I go. Its never really left.

Rap has had some rough times before too. Vanilla Ice, Snow, Eminem,
its all a rich tapestry. I'm sure it'll find a way to survive. It
just needs to find a way to dump all the poseur black artists, who are
only using it as a crutch. (Puffy, Sisqo, what-have-you)

If you don't see the parallel...nevermind...I was pointing out that anyone that
thinks Eminem is cute, like Aguilera did, and still act all ditzy when he calls
her a whore, is an idiot. As for Eminem, how can you call him talented when
all he does is bitch about other people?

See, the difference is, Sisqo isn't a rapper. He doesn't claim to be a rapper.
He's an R&B singer. Listen to his Album, which is really good BTW, and if you
hear him rap a whole song, let me know, cause it doesn't happen.

Besides that, Eminem is by no means the best rapper out there. He's just
currently what's hot. Busta Rhymes comes out Tuesday, pick that up and hear
some good rap. The Eclectic is due out soon too, that'll be good rap. And if
you want to go grassroots and get some good Old School style rap, go out on
Tuesday, and Support the Jurassic Five, a Great group of Rappers and DJ's. Pick
up "Quality Control" cause it'll be one of if not the best rap CDs of the year.

If you want to claim Eminem is a good rapper, good for you. I guess he's a
great rapper, but the fact is, rap in itself sucks, really, really bad! Yes,
that's just my opinion, but for some reason people think rap is "Music." But
"Rap" is not "Music." Rap is people talking to a beat, this is not "Music." At
least IMO.

Rap is going to return to the underground within the next few years, but it's
never going to die. It's been overcommercialzed and sucked dry, and many in
the hip-hop industry are fed up and would probably like to see it go back
underground. Once these little white boys and girls move on to the corporate
world's next big trend. I would have a lot more respect for rap music, which I
am not really a fan of, if it were more advanced. Lauren Hill's album was a
good example of what hip-hop could be. The Roots are a legitimate band who do
not resort to talk about their piles of cash or how many people they have
murdered. And they play their own instruments.

I would have a lot more respect for rap music if it were more political, if it
served a purpose for the advancement of black people in our country. Sure, you
could argue that rap music has helped to advance black people, but it hasn't
really. All it has done is become a way to sell urban fashions to white
suburban teen-agers. This is why just about all of your big-name rap stars are
too busy rhyming about cash and women and not about real social issues. This
is why you see big-budget mini-movies as rap videos. The kind of rap music I
would like to see is one that is reflective of the struggle of black people in
our country. A style that is raw, angry, political, but also offers hope. The
junk you see on MTV may pretend to be real, and the media creams over it, but
it's really nothing more than corporate bullshit. The same type of corporate
bullshit that is turning society as a whole into corporate zombies.

Rap will go down in history as a form of art that did not live up to either
it's original purpose and/or just got watered down by "The Man." And it's
truly sad, considering very few seem to realize it. And then some foul-mouthed
opportunisit like Enimem comes along and sucks everyone else dry. I believe I
am through with mainstream music, at least modern mainstream music, if I wasn't
already.

chunk of the suburban, pop, teenybopper crowd support him. While he does have

Rap, with VERY few exceptions, is not music. It is the biggest joke in the
grand history of the music industry.

It deserved to die years ago. But the media has kept it alive.

If there is no melody, how can it be music??? Answer - it isn't. It would be
nice is stars of the music industry actually know something about playing
music.

Wrestling fans get worked by the idea of sports entertainment. Rap fans
get worked by record companies who tell you this music has something to
say. Soap opera fans get worked by the cliffhanger to make them watch
the next episode.

I love wrestling (even though a lot of the time the crap ideas make me
wonder why I watch), I quite like rap (even though no-one has had
anything to say since NWA, and they got stale very quickly), I don't
watch soap operas (because despite watching wrestling and listening to
some rap I still have a few brain cells). But it's all there to make
money for big business. Don't build anything up - it's all there to take
your money from you.

My, my. Look how much controversy only two sentences can cause.

Anyway, as much as I dislike rap (hate is a strong word), I can't say that
it's "dying a slow painful death." Rap's still going strong.

Long live metal and punk rock!

Well, if the only rap you ever hear is from MTV or the radio, yeah, it's not
that great...

> It deserved to die years ago.

We're all entitled to our opinions.

> But the media has kept it alive.

There's negative publicity around other music too, can use the same arguement
against say Manson for all the press about how it makes your kid a loser and
want to blow up his school-- makes all the outsider kids buy it and listen to it
even more IMO.

> If there is no melody, how can it be music??? Answer - it isn't.

I don't get this part... A lot of rap songs are sampled from older songs, so to
me that's like saying those older songs don't have melody and aren't music...

> It would be nice is stars of the music industry actually know something about
playing music.

I'll agree here, but not just in rap (Swizz Beats) but in other pop-ish music
too.

Good way of explaining it, but Public Enemy and The Coup have messages in them,
Eminem does too in his crazy kill everyone and do drugs type way... But
otherwise I'm gonna say I agree with about everything you said.

hahaha, And to top off a decent post, a decent closing line...

OK, how about I send you a beat and some lyrics. Make a wav of yourself
just speaking the lyrics, and put it over the beat. Let's see how good it
sounds.

Ignorant.
