First Match (*not* taped at Cal State LA):
Octagoncito (masked - Mexico), Angelito Azteca (masked - Mexico),
Mascarita Sagrada (masked - Mexico) (faces) vs. Picudito (masked -
Mexico), Piratita Morgan (Mexico), Jerrito Estrada (Mexico) (heels); El
Tirante and unknown, (referees).
First Fall: Octagoncito pins Picudito with a Frankensteiner
Second Fall: Piratita Morgan pins Octagoncito
Third Fall: The rudos are counted out after they're on the receiving
end of a number of pretty spectacular planchas.
Second Match (first from LA):
Espectrito (masked - Mexico), Piratita Morgan (Mexico) (heels) vs.
Angelito Azteca (masked - Mexico), Mascarita Sagrada (masked - Mexico)
(faces); El Bonano Califoriano (referee) - well, that's what Arturo
Rivera and Dr. Alfonso Morales kept calling him, anyway :-)
First Fall: Mascarita submits to Espectrito.
Second Fall: Mascarita pins Piratita after delivering a flying head
butt from the second rope.
Third Fall: Mascarita pins Espectrito after a moonsault from the top.
Third Match:
Piloto Nuclear (masked - Mexico?), Ultraman (masked - Mexico?),
Mercurio (masked - Mexico?) (faces) vs. Jerry Estrada (USA?), Mando
Guerrero (San Bernardino, California), Bull Rider (masked - Mexico)
(heels); Bonano Californiano (referee).
Yep, you read it right - Mando Guerrero was working as a heel. Go
figure.
As for the faces, who the Hell *are* these guys? Nuclear Pilot?
Ultraman? Mercury (as in the winged messenger)? Actually, it was a
pretty good match.
First Fall: Ultraman pins Mando Guerrero.
Second Fall: Jerry Estrada and Mando pick up folding chairs and whack
everybody in sight with them. Eventually, Mando pins Mercurio.
Third Fall: Bull Rider pins Ultraman, then Jerry Estrada takes
Mercurio's mask (which would have been a DQ if the match hadn't already
been over). Pretty good action from the rudos. That Mando works pretty
well as a rudo! :-)
Fourth Match:
Konan (Miami, Florida) (face) vs. El Cobarde (Tijuana, Mexico) (heel).
This was a hair vs. hair match (God knows why - there certainly wasn't
any set-up for it). This was also the first time I've seen El Cobarde
(Raul Delgado) in at least a year. BTW, "cobarde" means "coward."
Another BTW: Konan is spelling his name with a "K" again. He used to do
that when he wore a mask, then switched to a "C" after he took the mask
off.
Both guys were seconded by pretty mean looking dudes, but I didn't
catch their names. El Cobarde's second, in particular, looked like
somebody you wouldn't want to mess with. *Great* big guy with a Mohawk.
Kept flipping off the fans. Konan's guy had a Filipino-sounding name,
so he might have been the big martial arts guy in Torrance (whose name
I can't remember - sorry).
First Fall: Cobarde pins Konan in about 20 seconds.
Second Fall: Konan pins Cobarde after a wild flying punch from the top
rope.
Third Fall: Konan hardway juices pretty early in the fall after taking
a chair to the face. Lots of chair mayhem in this fall. Everybody rates
one, including Antonio Pen~a! Konan finally pins El Cobarde, but they
have a hard time getting him together with the barber (Cobarde
threatens the guy with a chair). Finally, the job is done, and Cobarde
proffers his hand to Konan. Just as soon as Carlos takes his hand,
Cobarde decks him and splits. Pretty funny.
Fifth Match:
Perro Aguayo (Mexico), Hijo Del Santo (masked - Mexico), Misterioso
(masked - Mexico) (faces) vs. Cien Caras (Mexico), Espanto, Jr.
(Mexico), Fishman (masked - Mexico) (heels).
I've never heard of El Espanto ("dread" or "terror") before, but
everybody acted like we should know who he was. The graphic they showed
for him had him in a mask, but he was bare-faced here.
First Fall: Espanto submits to Misterioso's spinning backbreaker.
Second Fall: Espanto pins Santo after delivering a high cross-body
plancha from the top rope.
Third Fall: Misterioso is injured between falls and carried away by the
ring officials. The fall is nothing but a 3-on-2 thrashing of the
tecnicos by the rudos. At one point, Konan peaks out of the dressing
room and the fans begin a chang of "Konan! Konan! Konan!" so he
reluctantly makes his way to the ring (obviously this wasn't scripted,
but with Misterioso injured the booking is fouled up anyway). You
couldn't call this a run-in. More of a stroll-in. It takes Konan about
5 minutes to walk to 80 yards or so to the ring, and almost as soon as
he gets involved in the action, the referee DQs the tecnico team.
All in all a fairly interesting card. Too bad they didn't show any of
the Onita stuff (sigh).
