Oh I think Punk is going to get people talking. We’re only a few days away
from All Out, but that isn’t the only major wrestling event taking place in
Chicago over the weekend. In addition to the show, there is a large fan
convention called Starrcast III, which will be including a variety of
special guests. One big name is a Chicago native and is likely to get some
major attention.

The man can still talk. Check out Punk’s video:
[This post contains video, click to play]

CM Punk has been announced for Starrcast III and a video has been released
with Punk hyping up his QA session. The video features Punk inside of a
ring as he talks about the event, promising to not follow a script or be
part of a storyline. At the moment, there is nothing to suggest that Punk
will be appearing at any other televised event over the weekend, including
All Out.

Opinion: You know, because this needed some extra hype. Punk is still
someone who commands an audience everywhere he goes, but at the same time
this could cause a lot of problems at All Out. If he’s in Chicago and
appearing at something associated with AEW, you can all but guarantee a lot
of CM PUNK chants throughout the show. That’s a risk to take, but maybe
AEW has an ace up their sleeve.

Do you think Punk will appear at the show? Do you want him to? Let us
know in the comments below.

RUMOR: Again? Heres Where Sami Zayn And Shinsuke Nakamura May Be Going,
And Its A Redo Of A Recent Story.

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 10:43 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rumor-heres-sami-zayn-shinsuke-nakamura-may-going-redo-recent-story/

Nak-a-mur-a, SAMI ZAYN! You never know when you might see a new alliance
form in wrestling, with some of them being better than others. In WWE, one
of the biggest things that they can do is eventually split up, which is
often the bigger story between the two. A new one came together last week
on SmackDown Live but it turns out that they already might be on the road
to destruction.

According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, the recently formed Sami
Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura alliance is designed to be similar to Kevin
Owens and Chris Jericho’s friendship from a few years ago, meaning that it
is eventually leading to a blowoff match. Zayn has positioned himself as
Nakamura’s mouthpiece and will likely be in his corner should Nakamura
agree to defend the Intercontinental Title against the Miz at Clash Of
Champions. Nakamura and Zayn have a history together, with Nakamura
defeating Zayn in his NXT debut at Takeover: Dallas in 2016.

One of the ideas I’ve heard when the Zayn / Nakamura storyline was decided
upon was to eventually resemble that of the Jericho / Owens friendship from
a few years ago, leading to a big time blowoff match. However, I’d be
surprised if this story lasted all the way thru to Mania.

- WrestleVotes (@WrestleVotes) August 28, 2019

You can still hear the chants from here. Check out the original Nakamura
vs. Zayn classic:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I don’t think this is exactly a big secret, but having Nakamura
vs. Zayn again, in any form, sounds like a good thing. Their initial match
is an all time classic and more importantly, it would give Zayn something
to do. For some reason WWE has basically left Zayn to rot in the ring and
I don’t get why. He’s a great talker and can work in the ring, so maybe
this is a chance to get him back on track.

What do you expect from this story? How long should the team stay
together? Let us know in the comments below.

What A Fiend! Bray Wyatt Swears At A Fan On Twitter For Making A Mistake.

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 10:32 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/might-not-go-well-bray-wyatt-swears-fan-twitter-making-mistake/

You might not want to get on his bad side. Bray Wyatt has been part of WWE
for over six years now, though he is just coming back from nearly a year
away from the ring. The return has brought him back with a vengeance
though, in the form of the Fiend. Wyatt’s new character has given him a
lot of attention, but it doesn’t seem that he was happy to receive some of
it.

Earlier this week, Wyatt got in a Twitter exchange with Braun Strowman (who
he may be facing at Hell In A Cell). A fan commented, seemingly saying
that Wyatt would not be able to jump Strowman from behind in the dark like
he did to Finn Balor. The fan misspelled Balor though, spelling it as
“Baller”. Wyatt responded, mocking the fan’s error and telling him to
“shut your idiot a** up.” He also mentioned that the Summerslam match took
place in full lighting.

Everyone isnt the poor #finnBaller sit, taking advantage of the darkness
and attacking people has become your habit.

- Farrukh Shahzad (@FarrukhWrites) August 28, 2019

*Balor**Shut your idiot ass up. SummerSlam was in full lighting. I do
whatever I want.

- Bray Wyatt (@WWEBrayWyatt) August 28, 2019

The entrance alone is worth it. Check out the start of Wyatt vs. Balor at
Summerslam:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This isn’t something that is going to get Wyatt in trouble but
that was quite the escalation. To be fair though, how can Wyatt not make
fun of a fan who tried to be a bit tough and made that kind of a mistake?
It was a bad moment but Wyatt got to look like a rather strong heel, which
is what the Fiend is there for. Now just don’t let him lose in the Cell
and everything can be fine.

Was what Wyatt said inappropriate? What will happen if/when he gets a
title shot? Let us know in the comments below.

(PHOTO): A Long Time Coming. Cesaro FINALLY Done With Recovery From A
Nearly Two Year Old Injury.

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 10:28 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/long-time-coming-cesaro-finally-done-recovery-nearly-two-year-old-injury/

It took a long time. Injuries in wrestling can come and go, with some of
them being a lot worse than others. What makes them even worse though is
the recovery time, which can range from days to months to never if an
injury is bad enough. Some of them might not show up as clearly as you
might think though, with a current wrestler only recently getting over
something from nearly two years ago.

Cesaro Tweeted a picture of his teeth without braces on Wednesday, showing
that his teeth were finally healed after a nasty injury at No Mercy 2017.
During the match, Cesaro went mouth first into the post, driving his teeth
into the top of his mouth. After undergoing surgery to repair them, Cesaro
was forced to wear braces for the better part of the next two years. This
is also the reason he has wrestled in a mouth guard since the injury.

After almost two years, I can enjoy the best fruit again
pic.twitter.com/ngtfY2tLm4

- Cesaro (@WWECesaro) August 27, 2019

Since the injury itself is a bit gruesome, try this instead. Check out an
awesome match:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I had forgotten how horrible that one was as Cesaro’s teeth were
literally wedged up into his mouth. That’s not the kind of injury that you
see happen very often but it helped that the match was pretty awesome.
It’s quite the condition if it takes twenty three months to finally get
everything right, but it goes a long way in showing just how tough Cesaro
really is.

What do you think of Cesaro? Will he ever get the big breakout push in
WWE? Let us know in the comments below.

KBs Review: Oh Yeah, AEW Is Still A Thing

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 09:59 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/kbs-review-oh-yeah-aew-still-thing/

Over the last few weeks, so much of the wrestling discussion has been about
NXT moving over to the USA Network and how big of a deal it is. That
certainly is the case and another example of how much bigger WWE is at the
moment, but I think people are kind of forgetting about AEW. I certainly
did until someone suggested that I do a column on the other side of the
move, which is what we’ll be doing here, or at least a broader look at
where AEW currently stands.

We currently sit less than a week away from All Out….and does it really
matter? Yeah the first World Champion is going to be crowned on the show,
but at the same time, how many champions are going to be crowned and then
defending their titles in the first few weeks on TNT? The weekly show is
going to be what really matters as soon as it starts and that cannot be
understated. All Out is going to be a big, entertaining show that will set
the stage for the TNT show, but make no mistake about it: the weekly show
is all that matters once it gets going.

The big thing for AEW continues to be just how fast things are going. The
company has only been around just over three months (remember: Double Or
Nothing was May 25) and they are only coming up on their fourth show. To go
from that to hours a week on television is about as big of a jump as you
can get and I’m not sure how ready they are for such a move.

I’m not saying that the show is going to be bad by any means, but there are
going to be some growing pains. What matters is how they respond to those
problems, which they haven’t faced yet. So far, AEW has had nothing but
good news and positive vibes, but that is going to change at some point.
What happens when they produce a bad show? Or when the fans just aren’t
buying what they’re presenting? It happens to everyone at one point or
another and the more material the company has, the more likely it is for
something like that to take place.

This is how it gets started:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Another interesting point is WWE taking their shot at AEW. Until now, AEW
has been the company that gets to come in, do their fun show, and then
leave without much of a problem while soaking in the cheers. Now though,
they might not even be the most popular show on the same night. Making this
even worse is the fact that WWE has very little to lose. If AEW wins, they
beat the minor league show and WWE still gets paid. If NXT wins, WWE’s
minor league show crushed the upstart AEW without even having to bust out
the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live guns. That would be quite the way
to cut AEW’s legs off at the start.

So where is AEW as the war is about to really get going? Honestly, it’s
pretty hard to say. They are doing some very good things, but there is a
chance that it is going to be too much, too fast. Right now they are going
from a few rehearsals, most of which are about three to four weeks apart,
to going every single week. The pressure is going to be on in a hurry
because it stops being the fun promotion and is suddenly the competition.
As in the other big money company instead of being a bunch of wrestlers who
love the sport and trying to have a good time.

The other problem that they are going to be having is having to deal with
is finding their audience. There is a core group of fans that are going to
watch AEW no matter what and that can keep them around for a long time.
However, they have to expand if they are going to be the big national (if
not international) company and that is where things get confusing. How do
you balance out stuff like the Young Bucks flying all over the place with
the emotionally heavy stuff like the Rhodes Brothers and then add in stuff
like Orange Cassidy and A Boy And His Dinosaur?

That’s a big area where things are going to get a little bit interesting
for them and I’m not sure how well it is going to work. Every company from
WWE to Impact Wrestling to Ring of Honor has had trouble figuring out what
kind of promotion they want to be at times and it can become a problem for
anyone. That being said, it is far from impossible to pull off and if AEW
can find the right formula for everything involved, they could be off to
another great start. As long as the World Title match doesn’t put someone
to sleep with a wrestler then stealing his shoe, I think they’ll manage.

Yeah they dont have something like this (Its worse than you remember):

[This post contains video, click to play]
Then there are the good things, which certainly do exist. First and
foremost, they don’t have to worry about finding their television home.
Again, look back at Impact Wrestling and how big of a mess that whole thing
was. How many channels and networks have they been on over the years and in
how many time slots? To be able to start on a major network (which they
have to maintain) is one of the biggest breathers they can have.

In the same vein, AEW also doesn’t come into this run with a bunch of bad
history. There is no horrible run of shows where they pushed Hulk Hogan’s
friends or the Reign of Terror to deal with in their past. The company may
not have much history, but that means it doesn’t have the bad stuff to go
with it. There hasn’t been the big match or moment that turned a lot of
people off from the show. That is going to allow them to try something
fresh and new, which might be just what the wrestling world is needing at
the moment.

Finally, and this might sound very simple, but AEW is something new. We’ve
lived in a wrestling world completely controlled by WWE for a very long
time now and that had to change at some point, either for the good or the
bad. Maybe the change that needed to take place was giving them another
show on the national stage (or at least a stage where most people could see
it) or maybe it was just a fresh cast of characters, but we are finally
getting something new. If that is what it takes to make wrestling better
then so be it, but it is certainly not a guarantee.

If this has sounded like I’ve been rambling quite a bit, it’s because we’re
in uncharted territory here. There have been programming battles before,
but never in a world where WWE was the only company of note for so long.
Impact Wrestling tried and might have made some small dents with their time
on Spike, but this is a good bit bigger than anything they ever did. Just
going at WWE with a fresh cast and the billionaire wrestling freak could
make for some very interesting times, but there is no way of knowing how
this whole thing is going to work.

New names, new faces, new talent:

[This post contains video, click to play]
At the same time though, keep in mind that AEW is starting from scratch and
is still MILES behind WWE. Yeah AEW announced the weekly show on TNT back
in May in a huge cable deal. In the last fourteen months, WWE has gotten
THREE huge television deals, two of which were on cable and one of which
was on a broadcast network.

What AEW has done is downright impressive, but they’re light years away
from being on equal footing with WWE. Selling some shows out and drawing a
rating/audience for a few weeks is cool. Monday Nitro did that too and that
show didn’t even last six years. We’re entering into a new era here and
it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next.

REVIEW: National Wrestling Alliance San Francisco TV - June 24, 1978: That
Piper Guy Could Go Somewhere

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 09:41 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/review-national-wrestling-alliance-san-francisco-tv-june-24-1978-piper-guy-go-somewhere/

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing
wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on
Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE
to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using
letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as
really, how good or bad can something that short be?
San Francisco TV

Date: June 24, 1978

Location: KXTV Studios, Sacramento, California

Commentator: Hank Renner
This is an interesting case as its pure territory days with Roy Shires San
Francisco area. The big star here would be a young Roddy Piper, who was
tearing up southern California before heading up to Portland and then on to
the Carolinas and New York. Im really not sure what to expect here so lets
get to it.
Roddy Piper vs. Tony Milan
Piper comes out with the bagpipes, wearing the kilt, a matching hat and a
yellow Superman shirt. The fans want to hear some bagpipes and Roddy
actually obliges, but the referee would like to have a match. Instead Piper
heads outside to play some more until were FINALLY ready to go. The jobber
is maybe 55 and Piper pounds him down and nails a knee to the face.
Those trademark punches in the corner and some more forearms to the back of
the head continue the squash as Piper is showing some awesome fire out
there. A clothesline gets two but Piper pulls him up twice in a row. Piper
does the same thing off a swinging neckbreaker before a second is enough to
finally end Milan. Total squash and Piper looked like a star.
House show ads tell us of a show on Tuesday, June 27, meaning this is
taking place in 1978. The announcer saying that today is June 24 makes it a
bit easier. At the house show taking place that night: Harley Race
defending the NWA World Title against Dean Ho.
Piper is also on the card so he talks about being ready for Moondog Mayne
for the US Title. Naturally this includes a lot of shouting MOONDOG over
and over. Mayne isnt sure if he wants it to be a title match so Piper has
agreed to pay $10,000 to change his opinion. The announcer tells Piper that
Mayne ate the check. Mayne might put up the title but it depends on how hes
feeling when he gets to the arena. Piper thinks Mayne is crazy and
threatens to beat him to a pulp. Roddy would actually win the title but
drop it back about a month later. Mayne would be killed in a car accident
less than two months later.
Dean Ho shows us a Harley Race match.
Harley Race vs. Mike Stallings
Races World Title isnt on the line and Gordon Solie is on commentary. Im
not sure when and where this took place. Race elbows him down but misses
the falling headbutt. That means nothing though as Race snapmares Mike and
drops a knee to the head, only to get taken over into a hammerlock. Race
headbutts him out to the floor and grabs a piledriver back inside. Instead
of covering though he tries a small package for two. Thats a new one but
its a different time. Race drives some shoulders into the ribs in the
corner before a suplex (yes just a suplex) gets the pin.
Rating: D+. The match was just a long squash, but its an interesting case
study compared to today. Like I said, Race won with a vertical suplex. Yeah
its a transitional move today, but at this point it was still a big enough
move to win matches. It became a big move because Race won matches with it.
Thats all you need to do to establish a finisher: win matches with it.
Race talks about going around the world to defend the title and how hell
wrestle any man on the face of Gods green earth for this belt. People said
he won the World Title in a freak accident, but then he won it again and
people were saying maybe. Hes going to carry these ten pounds of gold until
hes ready to retire. There will be a big tournament for the title, but no
one can be at his level and everyone knows it. He actually praises Solie
for being a great commentator but everyone knows the champ is here to stay.
Race is right too, as he would hold the belt for the next three years, save
for about three months of short reigns.
In another interview, Race says Dean Ho isnt the man that is going to take
his belt away. Ho eliminated him in a big battle royal last year so Race is
coming to the Cow Palace for revenge. He doesnt actually say Hos name as he
talks about how important it is to be the champion. Race isnt coming to the
Cow Palace to wrestle, because he wants to hurt Ho.
Dean Ho says hes coming to fight and win the World Title. Notice that he
keeps saying the arena and the date over and over so no one is going to
forget.
Theres a tag match main event but the video is cut off before we can hear
the participants.
Overall Rating: C+. Now this was some old school goodness. Notice how the
main idea here was to hype up the house shows instead of some major TV
match. Its such a different idea compared to what we get today but it still
works. On top of that you have Piper and a great example of why Harley Race
was one of the most intimidating and awesome guys around. This was a lot of
fun and when it only runs about 25 minutes, its hard to go wrong. Check
these things out if you havent seen a run of the mill territory before.

Ring Of Honor TV Results - August 28, 2019

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 09:11 PM PDT

Ring of Honor

Date: August 28, 2019

Location: Mattamy Athletic Center, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman

Hosts: Quinn McCay, Ian Riccaboni

The slow decline of this show and possibly the promotion continues as they
try whatever they can to get Matt Taven over as World Champion. This time
around it means Alex Shelley as the veteran challenger with no chance of
winning the title. It’s not like they have anyone else that Taven hasn’t
already beaten, other than Rush, who seems to be the one to take the title
off of him. Let’s get to it.

Opening sequence.

We look at Shelley injecting himself into the World Title picture.

Clips of Alex Shelley/Jay Lethal/Jonathan Gresham beating the Kingdom at
Mass Hysteria when Shelley made Marseglia tap.

Shelley is ready to take the title from Taven in Toronto.

We look at Tasha Steelz pinning Angelina Love twice in a row but needing
Kelly Klein to save her from the Allure.

Clips of Klein retaining the Women of Honor Title over Steelz at Summer
Supercard. Angelina jumped them both after the match.

Klein jumped Angelina in the back.

Lifeblood is ready for Villain Enterprises.

We see Flip Gordon attacking Tracy Williams, which seemed to cost Williams
the TV Title match later in the night.

Taylor is tired of not being promoted as a big star.

Highlights from Ladder War in Toronto with the Briscoes defending against
Guerrillas of Destiny, which has to be clipped due to violence.

The announcers give a quick Top Prospect Tournament preview.
Ring of Honor World Title: Matt Taven vs. Alex Shelley

Taven is defending. They go to the mat to start with Taven holding a
headscissors until Shelley blows his nose on him for a standoff. It’s back
to the mat for a rollup on Taven and they stare at each other again. That
works so well that they do it again for yet another standoff. A third
rollup into more staring lets Shelley do some pushups as they’re staying in
first gear.

Taven bails to the floor to change things up a bit before coming back in
for….another rollup for two. Back from a break with Shelley’s Sliced Bread
off the post attempt being shoved through a table as something finally
happens. Shelley dives back in to beat the count so Taven hits a
backbreaker for two. The back is bent over Taven’s knee, followed by a
butterfly backbreaker for two more. A Liontamer makes the back even worse
but Shelley makes the rope in a hurry.

Taven goes with a rolling neckbreaker for two but Shelley is back up with a
slingshot DDT onto the apron for the double knockdown. Sliced Bread onto
the barricade rocks Taven, who pops right back up with the dive over the
barricade. Back in and Jay White’s Blade Runner gets two on Taven, followed
by a pair of superkicks. Sliced Bread gets two more but Taven hits the
Climax. The cover is countered into a rollup to give Shelley two but Taven
knees him in the head and hits the Climax to retain at 15:22.

Result: Matt Taven b. Alex Shelley Climax (15:22)

Before Or After The Beard? Daniel Bryan Offers Interesting Take On The
Difference Between Independent Wrestling And WWE.

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 06:41 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/beard-daniel-bryan-offers-interesting-take-difference-independent-wrestling-wwe/

It’s a different world. There are very few stories more unlikely than a
wrestler like Daniel Bryan rising to the heights that he has reached.
Bryan is a wrestler of below average size and isn’t the most physically
impressive performer. However, through a combination of charisma and an
incredible in-ring IQ, Bryan has become a top star in the wrestling world.
But what about wrestling the style that made him famous before he came to
WWE?

Bryan was recently interviewed by Super Luchas (in Spanish), where he was
asked if he missed being an independent wrestler. Bryan said that he did,
mainly because of how different it felt every night. Instead of wrestling
the same people over and over, Bryan would have to change his style to
adapt to someone else. In addition to the wrestlers, Bryan misses
wrestling in different buildings and being in front of smaller crowds. He
did not say that he disliked wrestling in WWE, calling the situation a
different sensation.

Hes been in a big story of late. Check out the most recent development:

Opinion: It’s understandable that Bryan would miss working the independent
style as it really is a completely different world. Sure you might work
against someone a few times, but how often would it be someone completely
different? In WWE, the company itself is the production but on the
independent circuit, the wrestlers themselves are the product. Whenever
Bryan leaves WWE, I can’t imagine he won’t wrestle on the independent
circuit again, just because he loves wrestling anywhere so much.

Which Bryan do you prefer? Where will he go if or when he leaves WWE? Let
us know in the comments below.

NXT Live Coverage And Results - August 28, 2019

NXT

Date: August 28, 2019

Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida

Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, Beth Phoenix, Nigel McGuinness

We’re down to three weeks to go before the big switch over and tonight we
have what might be the last title match on the hour long version. That
would be the Street Profits defending the Tag Team Titles against the
Undisputed Era as the Era’s quest for all the gold continues. Let’s get to
it.

Quick look at tonight’s title match.

Opening sequence.
Io Shirai vs. Cami Fields

Shirai hits a running dropkick at the bell and loads up what looks to be a
package piledriver. Cami backdrops out but Shirai lands on her feet and
hits another dropkick. The moonsault gets two with Shirai pulling her up,
followed by something like a reverse Koji Clutch to make Fields tap at 1:43.

Result: Io Shirai b. Cami Fields Reverse Koji Clutch (1:43)

Post match Shirai pulls out the kendo stick but Candice LeRae makes the
save.

Video on Kushida.
Keith Lee vs. Dominick Dijakovic

Hold on as Lee has to conduct the crowd for an OH BASK IN HIS GLORY chant.
Lee shrugs off some kicks to the ribs to start and hits a big shoulder.
That just earns him the cyclone boot but Lee blocks a suplex attempt and
hits him in the face. Lee gets sent to the apron but Dijakovic won’t let
himself go face first into the buckle. Instead Lee hits a slingshot
crossbody for two, followed by one heck of a lariat for the same. They
fight to the apron with Lee spinebustering him down onto the apron, but
this time Lee isn’t settling for the countout.

Dijakovic gets in a boot and Lee heads outside again, meaning it’s a big
running flip dive (Nigel: “If he flies, he flies.”). Back in and Dijakovic
tries a top rope flip dive but Lee catches him in the air. The powerbomb is
countered as Dijakovic backflips out, setting up the toss suplex. The
moonsault gets two on Lee so they head up top, with Lee busting out a super
Spanish Fly. This time it’s Lee going up and, after elbowing Dijakovic off
the top, getting superkicked in the leg to bring him back down. Feast Your
Eyes finally finishes Lee 11:19 for the standing ovation.

Result: Dominick Dijakovic b. Keith Lee Feast Your Eyes (11:19)

We get a career retrospective on Johnny Gargano, who seems ready to leave.
We start with a look at DIY’s success before moving on to the split, the
matches with Andrade and then the classics with Ciampa, capped off by him
finally winning the NXT Title in the match with Adam Cole. We also see part
of his big farewell after Takeover: Toronto.

Shane Thorne comes up to commentary and asks why we’re talking about
Gargano and not his win streak or his devastating kicks. Focus on the
present people.

We look back at Mia Yim going after Shayna Baszler last week.

Mia begged William Regal for another title shot and was told no because she
already had her chance.

Here are Shayna and the Horsewomen for a chat but Rhea Ripley of all people
shows up and takes the mic, saying Shayna hasn’t beaten her b****. The trio
bails.

Video on Pete Dunne, who wants the North American Title and will break
anyone who tries to stop him.

Next week: Jordan Myles vs. Adam Cole for the NXT Title.
Tag Team Titles: Undisputed Era vs. Street Profits

The Profits are defending after pinning the illegal man at Takeover. The
fans want the smoke as Fish grabs a wristlock on Ford to start. O’Reilly
comes in for a headlock and some spot calling, one of which seems to be
bringing in Dawkins to take O’Reilly down. Everything breaks down for a bit
with Ford hitting the crazy high dropkick and getting tossed onto Fish for
two.

Ford gets taken into the corner for the hard strikes from O’Reilly, with
the leg being twisted around the rope to make it even worse. A cannonball
down onto the leg is broken up but O’Reilly pulls the leg down so Fish can
hit the slingshot hilo. Ford gets back up and manages to get over for the
tag to Dawkins, who cleans house. A spear gets two on Fish but O’Reilly is
right back with Chasing the Dragon for a rather near fall.

O’Reilly grabs the kneebar until Ford makes the save and everyone is down.
We get the four way slugout until Dawkins hits a Sky High on Fish. The Rock
Bottom into the frog splash (from Dawkins for a change) gets two on
O’Reilly with Fish making the save. Ford hits a running flip dive but
misses the real frog splash. Dawkins’ spear hits a raised knee and it’s
High/Low to Ford for the pin and the titles at 11:31.

Result: Undisputed Era b. Street Profits High/Low to Ford (11:31)

The rest of the Era comes out to celebrate to end the show.

Results

Io Shirai b. Cami Fields – Reverse Koji Clutch

Dominick Dijakovic b. Keith Lee – Feast Your Eyes

Undisputed Era b. Street Profits – High/Low to Ford

Two More. What Happened Before And After This Weeks SmackDown Live?

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 02:51 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/two-happened-weeks-smackdown-live/

Before and after. There are a lot of people on the WWE payroll and that
means that WWE has a lot of people to juggle one way or the other. That
leaves a lot of people both out of the ring and off the show in general.
It can be rather annoying to the fans who pay their money to see some of
the top stars, but luckily there are other ways to get a lot of people on
the show, even after the main portion is over.

According to Wrestlinginc.com, WWE ran their usual dark match both before
SmackDown Live and after 205 Live. Before the shows went on the air, the
Kabuki Warriors defeated Fire and Desire. None of the four appeared on
television. After the shows were over, Roman Reigns defeated Samoa Joe.
Reigns did not wrestle on SmackDown Live but appeared in the ring at the
end and speared Daniel Bryan.

Here’s a preview. Check out Reigns’ actions while the cameras were still
on:

Opinion: It makes sense to put Reigns out there to end the night as a lot
of people are going to stick around to see him. There are some big names
on the roster but Reigns is bigger than all of them and that is going to
keep the 205 Live crowds from dying as badly. For the life of me I can’t
understand how Asuka and Kairi Sane can’t get a better spot on the shows
though, as this tag team has been a rather horrible run for them.

Which of these matches sounds better? What is next for the Kabuki
Warriors? Let us know in the comments below.

NXT UK Results - August 28, 2019

NXT UK

Date: August 28, 2019

Location: Plymouth Pavilions, Devon, England

Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness

It’s the go home show for Takeover: Cardiff, which feels like it was
announced a very long time ago. Last week’s show saw Tyler Bate and Walter
have their big showdown, which makes me wonder what is left for this week’s
show. The good thing is I have some confidence that they could pull this
one off so maybe we’re in for a strong last show. Let’s get to it.

Opening sequence.
Ilja Dragunov vs. Tyson T-Bone

T-Bone grabs a headlock and runs Dragunov over with a shoulder. That earns
him a knee to the face and a backsplash so T-Bone is back with a right
hand. The armbar goes on with Dragunov giving T-Bone the crazy eyes.
T-Bone slaps on a nerve hold instead, which lasts as long as any standard
nerve hold. Dragunov fights back with the collection of clotheslines and a
German suplex, but a second attempt is knocked down with a right hand. A
missed charge sends T-Bone’s shoulder into the post and it’s a top rope
backsplash to crush him. Torpedo Moscow gives Dragunov the pin at 5:38.

Result: Ilja Dragunov b. Tyson T-Bone Torpedo Moscow (5:38)

Video on Toni Storm’s path to the Women’s Title and Kay Lee Ray wanting to
take it from her. Ray has made it personal, including bringing up their
past friendship and Toni’s dad walking out on the family.

Jack Gallagher asks the fans who is the better British wrestler: Kassius
Ohno or himself? Ohno pinned him despite the foot being underneath the
ropes, so he’d like a rematch next week.
Joseph Conners vs. Oliver Carter

Carter is from Ghana but lives in Switzerland. Some early strikes set up a
backdrop to Conners, who is tossed outside in a fast start. Back in and
Conners pulls him down by the hair and forearms away at the chest. Conners
runs him over for two as the fans are trying to get into this. Carter
fights back with more shots to the face and scores with some top rope knees
to the chest. An overhead belly to belly into a kick to the face gives
Carter two but he misses a Lionsault. Don’t Look Down finishes Carter at
6:26.

Result: Joseph Conners b. Oliver Carter Dont Look Down (6:26)

Takeover rundown.

Cesaro says he’s coming to Cardiff to take a more hands on approach.

Video on Piper Niven vs. Rhea Ripley. They meet next week.
Kenny Williams vs. Jordan Devlin

Feeling out process to start with Williams taking him down by the arm,
followed by a backdrop and a clothesline to the floor. That’s enough for
Devlin but Williams isn’t letting him walk so easily. Devlin sends him back
first into the barricade though and it’s a suplex back inside to bang
Williams up even more. With Devlin saying that he isn’t breaking a sweat,
it’s another shot to Williams’ back.

Devlin kicks him in the back and says he’s the ace to Kenny’s joker, which
brings Williams up to hit Devlin in the face. Another kick to the face
gives Williams two but Devlin is back with a shot to the ribs. They head to
the apron but Devlin can’t get a Spanish Fly to the floor. Back inside and
Williams hits a great looking top rope elbow to the face. Devlin counters a
charge into a wheelbarrow suplex (fans: “YOU KILLED KENNY!”), followed by a
Spanish Fly for two.

What looks like a super Regal Roll is countered into a springboard
hurricanrana to bring Devlin back down and a wheelbarrow faceplant gives
Williams two more. Williams gets sent chest first into the buckle though
and Devlin hits a moonsault onto the back for another near fall. Devlin has
had it with this and pulls Williams in for the Saito suplex and the pin at
12:33.

Result: Jordan Devlin b. Kenny Williams Saito suplex (12:33)

Long video on Tyler Bate vs. Walter, with Walter winning the UK Title and
forming Imperium to go after British Strong Style. Walter injured Pete
Dunne so Bate is fighting for the team’s honor. And the title.

Here are the Grizzled Young Veterans to complain about Flash Morgan Webster
and Mark Andrews qualifying for the Tag Team Title match by winning singles
matches. Cue Gallus and Webster/Andrews for the big brawl to end the show.

Results

Ilja Dragunov b. Tyson T-Bone – Torpedo Moscow

Joseph Conners b. Oliver Carter – Don’t Look Down

Jordan Devlin b. Kenny Williams – Saito suplex

It Makes Sense. Backstage News On Why Robert Roode And Dolph Ziggler Are
#1 Contenders For Clash Of Champions.

Posted: 28 Aug 2019 09:37 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/makes-sense-backstage-news-robert-roode-dolph-ziggler-1-contenders/

It’s not as random as it seems. This week’s Monday Night Raw saw a rather
long Tag Team Turmoil match with the winners receiving a Tag Team Title
shot against Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman at Clash Of Champions. The
match included eight teams, with seven of them being established and one
being a makeshift team. The makeshift team wound up winning, and it turns
out there was a good reason for it.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the new team of Robert
Roode and Dolph Ziggler won Tag Team Turmoil because they were the best
options to give Strowman a good match. Strowman’s in-ring skills are not
considered the best so having Roode and Ziggler in the ring can help make
the match better. Roode and Ziggler have yet to have a regular tag match
as a team.

They have a reason of their own. Check out Ziggler and Roode’s comments
after becoming #1 contenders:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: The theory makes sense, but at the same time, Strowman isn’t the
kind of guy who needs to be having regular matches. He can have a match
where he just destroys people with the power moves, which makes me wonder
why WWE would rather spend so much of their time trying to turn him into a
more traditional wrestler. Let Strowman be the monster that he can be.

Are you looking forward to the match? Who leaves as champions? Let us
know in the comments below.
