REVIEW: Night Of Champions 2015: Old Vs. New And New Vs. New And A Lot Of
Gold

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing
wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on
Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE
to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using
letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as
really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Night of Champions 2015

Date: September 20, 2015

Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas

Commentators: Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield
This is the definition of a B level pay per view but there are some
interesting stories to bolster things up between Summerslam and Survivor
Series. The big story tonight is Seth Rollins defending both the United
States and WWE World Titles against John Cena and Sting respectfully. Other
than that well get to find out who Roman Reigns and Dean Ambroses partner
is against the Wyatt Family. Lets get to it.
Pre-Show: Stardust/Ascension vs. Lucha Dragons/Neville
Stardust and Neville have been feuding for a few weeks now and the teams
were brought in to make the battle even bigger. Konor easily counters Caras
sunset flip with some choking but Cara comes back with a spinning
cross.headbutt to the arm. Off to Stardust vs. Kalisto with Konor getting
in a cheap shot to help his partner. With the announcers debating whether
the Ascension are Stardusts henchmen, Kalisto headscissors Stardust down
and all six come in for a standoff. The bad guys are sent to the floor with
the Dragons hitting stereo suicide dives and Neville adding an Asai
moonsault as we take an early break.
Back with Viktor shouldering Kalisto into the corner to take over. Stardust
comes in and works on the arm before its back to Viktor, who puts Kalisto
on top. You dont put a luchador on the top rope though as he hits a great
looking hurricanrana and makes the tag off to Neville. We hit the series of
kicks and a middle rope Phoenix splash gets two. Stardusts Disaster Kick
misses and Neville goes up top, only to have Stardust shove Viktor into the
corner. Neville staggers into the Queens Crossbow for the pin at 9:46.
Rating: C-. Fine enough match here as Neville got to come in and clean
house while the feud gets to keep going for another month or so. Theyre
letting this one fly under the radar a bit and its giving everyone involved
something to do. Above all else it lets them do something unique instead of
wasting time on a nowhere feud.
Opening video: “Tonight is a night of champions.” Dang you mean they
canceled Jackpot Bowling with Milton Berle? The main people on the roster
tonight talk about how big the show is before going into a video on Rollins
two challengers.
Intercontinental Title: Ryback vs. Kevin Owens
Ryback is defending and this could go either way. Owens just decided he
wanted the title one night and has been messing with Ryback ever since. The
champion comes out second which never sits well with me. Ryback starts fast
and wants Owens to bring it on. Kevin charges at him but gets gorilla
pressed out to the floor. Back up and Owens sends Ryback arm first into the
post, which takes away a lot of Rybacks power game. Owens, the big crowd
favorite here, slowly pounds Ryback down before sending the bad arm into
the buckle again.
We hit the armbar on the champ for a bit before he fights up with a
powerslam. A spinebuster gets two for Ryback and he scores with the
Meathook, which Cole identifies as a regular clothesline. Well to be fair
it was off the ropes instead of from the corner. The Shell Shock doesnt
work as the arm gives out and Ryback goes arm first into the post again.
Owens armbar doesnt work as Ryback powers him up into the Shell Shock
again, only to have Kevin rake the eyes and roll him up for the pin and the
title at 9:30.
Rating: C+. Set the injury up, pay the injury off in the ending, give a
young guy a title. I have no complaints off this one and the match was fun
in the process. Owens winning with an old school cheating tactic makes it
even better. This was more fun than I was expecting and Im very pleased
with the result.
Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar is announced for Hell in a Cell. Well thats
quite the main event.
We recap Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev.  These two had been feuding along with
Lana and Summer Rae respectfully, but now that Lana is on the shelf,
Ziggler bought Summer some earrings and wasnt clear on what his intentions
were.
Rusev is livid at Summer.
Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler
Dolph has long tights now. Ziggler scores with a quick dropkick to knock
Rusev to the floor but he comes back in for a shot to the ribs and a
chinlock. As this is going on, we get a nice discussion of the Divas
keeping diaries. Zigglers sleeper doesnt work as Rusev throws him outside
for a ram into the apron. An ugly small package gets two for Dolph but
Rusev slams him back down, followed by a chinlock.
A WE WANT LANA chant fires Dolph up and hes able to avoid a charge, sending
Rusev into the buckle. Zigglers Fameasser attempt doesnt work and Rusevs
swinging Rock Bottom gets two. Rusevs knee hits the buckle as well, setting
up the Fameasser for two more. A kick to the head has Ziggler in even more
trouble but he comes back with the sleeper as this match just keeps going.
Now the superkick gets two for Rusev and he cant believe it was just a near
fall. The Accolade doesnt work and Ziggler comes up with a mostly missed
superkick for two of his own. Summer gets on the apron and is accidentally
knocked into the ring, earning her an ejection. She throws in a shoe and
hits Rusev by mistake, setting up the Zig Zag for the pin at 13:38.
Rating: D+. WAY too long here and I lost interest about halfway through at
best. This feud is all about the drama and not the in ring action because
we were supposed to have the mixed tag until Lanas wrist injury screwed
everything up. Rusev getting pinned used to be a huge deal and now its
happened twice in a week.
Summer looks terrified.
Tag Team Titles: New Day vs. Dudley Boyz
New Day is defending and already lost to the Dudleyz in a non-title match.
Before the match, New Day declares that our furniture is in danger. After
praising their mentor (Jake from State Farm) its time for a SAVETHE TABLES
chant until the Dudleyz cut them off. I love the Dudleyz but I could watch
New Day for hours. D-Von and Kofi get things going as Woods starts a
trombone recital.
The Dudleyz scare the champs out to the floor until its time for Bubba vs.
Big E., the latter of whom tells the old man to go home. Big E. takes over
and goes up top, only to get superplexed down for two. Woods: “BUBBA! DO
NOT DO THIS!” The distraction works as Kofi is able to dropkick Bubba in
the back to take over. We hit the rotating stomps (complete with more
tromboning), followed by a splash on the apron to give E. two.
New Day starts some double teaming with Kofi firing off rights and lefts,
meaning Woods plays Gonna Fly Now (theme from Rocky). I havent been this
entertained in a long time. Kofi springboards into a Bubba Bomb, setting up
the hot tag to D-Von. House is quickly cleaned and the reverse 3D drops Big
E. The regular 3D looks to finish Kofi but Woods comes in for the DQ at
10:16.
Rating: B. The wrestling may not have been the best in the world but Xavier
Woods and that trombone is as pure gold as anything Ive seen around this
company in YEARS. The entire group is one of the funniest ideas in a long
time and goes to show you what can happen when you find a hot act. Great
stuff here and the rematch should be fun.
Post match Big E. loads up a table, only to have the Dudleyz fight back and
3D Woods through the table. JBL: “Its the night the music died.”
We recap Nikki Bellas title reign and breaking the record on Monday.
Divas Title: Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte
Nikki is defending and can lose the title via DQ or countout. Charlotte
takes her into the corner to start but a shoulder to the ribs puts
Charlotte on the floor. She tweaks her knee on the landing though and Nikki
has a target. A kick to the knee staggers Charlotte again and Nikki
powerbombs her off the apron for a big thud. Back in and Nikki puts on a
leg lock as the announcers thankfully acknowledge that the Womens Title and
the Divas Title are two different titles with two different lineages.
A snap suplex sends the knee into the ropes again and Nikki does some
pushups. Nikki slams the knee into the mat a few more times for two each
and wraps it around the post. Brie and Alicia try to help on a half crab
but Nikki yells at them for almost getting her disqualified. Makes sense.
Charlotte comes back with a neckbreaker but the knee gives out again.
Theres a spear though and the Figure Eight ends Nikkis reign at 13:42.
Rating: B-. Uh well um ok then. They were getting somewhere with that knee
and then Charlotte just popped up and won the title. Im glad the title
reign is finally over but it was such a strange way to get to the ending.
Still though, really good match here and the best WWE Divas match in a very
long time.
The family celebration:
[This post contains video, click to play]
Ric Flair comes out to cry his eyes out over the title win.
Owens denies cheating and is happy to finally have a prize. Its no secret
how great he really is. Nice line there.
The kickoff panel chats for a bit.
Team PCB asks Ric if he knows a place to party in Houston. You know, he
just might. Ric looks so genuinely proud here and its really cool to see.
We recap the Wyatt Family vs. Roman Reigns/Dean Ambrose. These teams have
been fighting on and off for over a year and now the Wyatts have the
monster Braun Strowman with them. Reigns and Ambrose have a mystery partner
to help fight Strowman.
Wyatt Family vs. Roman Reigns/Dean Ambrose/???
A fan tries to run in and Wyatt asks if thats their guy. The mystery
partner isCHRIS JERICHO. Well its not Rowan or Kane so this is totally
acceptable. Ambrose and Harper get things going with the good guy taking
over before its off to Jericho for the required YOU STILL GOT IT chant.
Reigns and Ambrose come in to try their luck on Strowman but he shoulders
both of them down.
Jericho tries to dive onto Braun but the glorified cruiserweight is caught
and thrown out to the floor for his efforts. Strowman throws Ambrose in for
a beating before tagging off to Bray. This works a bit better for Dean as
he grabs a neckbreaker, allowing for the tag off to Reigns. Harper comes in
with his right hands and sitout powerbomb, only to have Roman fire off his
corner clotheslines. Strowman offers a distraction though and Harper scores
with a superkick for two.
The Wyatts take turns on Roman with Bray sending him to the floor for a
suicide dive. Reigns finally gets in an elbow to the jaw, allowing the tag
off to Jericho. Chris dropkicks Braun off the apron in a smart move and
slaps the Walls on Bray until Harper makes the save. Dean comes in and both
Dirty Deeds and Sister Abigail are countered.
A double clothesline puts both guys down and its off to Reigns vs. Strowman
with the Superman Punch FINALLY connecting. It takes three of them to
stagger Braun but Deans top rope elbow puts him down. Jericho tags himself
in for a Lionsault for two with Braun launching him off the cover. Everyone
else brawls at ringside so its that spinning Big Ending from Strowman,
followed by the choke to knock Jericho out at 13:36.
Rating: C+. This felt like a way to keep the feud going and theres nothing
wrong with that. I love the idea of two teams feuding because thats what
they do no matter what. Jericho coming in there to lose is fine and its a
cool idea to build up to Roman finally knocking off the giant. Good stuff
here and a fun match.
Nice to see you again:
[This post contains video, click to play]
Jericho intentionally bumps into Ambrose as he leaves. Dean seems pleased
with Jerichos moxie.
The Authority gives Rollins a pep talk. Sheamus comes in and says hes ready
too.
We recap Seth Rollins road to tonight, starting with winning the World
Title at Wrestlemania (in case you havent had that beaten into your head
enough yet), being the Authoritys attention starved child, and then winning
a second title from John Cena at Summerslam. Oh and his statue was
destroyed in a very novel move.
US Title: John Cena vs. Seth Rollins
Seth is defending of course. We get the big match intros here and Rollins
is in the white attire again. The fans are all over Cena to start and
things get even worse with Rollins charging into an elbow for two. Rollins
comes back with a kick to the ribs and some trash talk as he seems to be
trying to conserve energy.
We hit an early sleeper on Cena before Cena is put in the Tree of Woe for a
top rope double stomp in an awesome looking spot. Cenas rollup gets two and
he sidesteps a splash (which looked very Stingy) in the corner. He takes
too long setting up the Shuffle, allowing Rollins to try a kick to the
head, only to have Cena pull him to his feet into a sunset bomb for two.
The AA is countered but Cena hurricanranas his way out of the buckle bomb
to send Seth into the corner instead.
Seth flips out of the AA again and the low superkick gets two for the
champ. Theyve skipped the opening part of the match here and have went
straight to the back and forth bombs. Seth misses the frog splash and the
Eddie chants pipe up, even though it was more like a Five Star Frog Splash.
Cena comes back with the tornado DDT for two and goes up top, only to have
Rollins run the ropes into a superplex.
Thats not enough though as he floats over into a regular suplex for two,
leaving both guys spent. Another AA is countered into a rollup but Seth
muscles Cena up into a buckle bomb for two. Back up and Rollins rolls
through a cross body to try an AA on Cena. Thankfully they only tease the
finisher stealing as Cena counters into a reverse suplex, followed by the
AA for the pin and the title at 15:43.
Rating: A-. As repetitive as these two have become, this was one of their
better matches because they just went straight for the big spot trading
instead of trying to do anything slow paced. Rollins wanting to end it fast
made the most sense and it was a better match as a result. Cena getting the
US Title back makes the most sense and we might even get the Open Challenge
back as a result. Good stuff.
Rollins tries to bail but Cena gives him another AA on the floor and heres
Sting.
WWE World Heavyweight Title: Sting vs. Seth Rollins
Sting goes right after him to start and quickly sends the champ out to the
floor. Theyre pretty clearly going for the brawl here as Sting sends him
into the barricade. Rollins tries to get away over the barricade but sting
pulls him back to the table. Seth gets in his first offense by shoving
Sting through the table before grabbing his title. He changes his mind
about leaving though and comes back to slam Sting onto the broken table.
Back in and a falcons arrow gets two on Sting and Seth is starting to get
frustrated. Theres a buckle bomb for two. The Pedigree is countered and
Sting breaks up a springboard by shoving Seth into the barricade for the
second time. Two Stinger Splashes crush Rollins so he heads outside, only
to have Sting dive off the top with a cross body. Back in and the Death
Drop gets two out of nowhere with Rollins having to put his foot on the
bottom rope.
Another Stinger Splash sets up right hands in the corner but Seth counters
into another buckle bomb. Seth tries a clothesline but Sting collapses to
the mat. The doctor checks on Sting as he gets back up and its going to
continue. Sting counters the Pedigree into a weak Deathlock. Thankfully
Seth is quickly in the ropes and comes back with an enziguri to the bald
spot. The Pedigree is countered into another Scorpion attempt but Seth
rolls him up to retain at 15:13.
Rating: B+. This was WAY better than it had any right to be with the ending
making enough sense. I really didnt need to have Sting as the World
Champion because, whether WWE wants to admit it or not, hes one of the
biggest stars ever and doesnt need this title to validate himself. Good
match though as Sting pulls another rabbit out of his hat. Though hopefully
not by the ears because thats just cruel.
Sheamus comes out immediately and its on! Rollins misses a belt shot and
Sheamus hits the Brogue Kick but heres Kane in the mask to chokeslam
Rollins. Sheamus wants Kane to give him one more but Kane chokeslams
Sheamus instead. A tombstone to Rollins ends the show. Yes seriously, it
ends with Kane standing tall and likely setting up the title match inside
the Cell.
Overall Rating: A. Well that worked. This was another show that completely
overachieved and had no business being nearly as good as it was. This goes
up another notch if they somehow got rid of that stupid briefcase and
werent setting up Kane inside the Cell for the title, but that match had to
happen at some point. Rollins is ready to be the star of tomorrow and its
going to happen one day soon. Really fun show here with only the Rusev vs.
Ziggler match not being good to awesome.

(VIDEO): That Wont Help. Matt Riddle Posts Video Complaining About NXT
Stars, Fellow NXT Star Responds.

Posted: 07 Sep 2019 01:02 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-wont-help-matt-riddle-posts-video-complaining-nxt-stars-fellow-nxt-star-responds/

He knows how to win friends. Matt Riddle came to WWE from the UFC with
quite the reputation. While immensely talented, Riddle had a reputation as
being a bit difficult to work with and being willing to say whatever is on
his mind. This has become an issue before with fellow stars such as
Goldberg, and now it may be getting him in some more trouble.

On Friday, Riddle posted a video to Twitter where he criticized his fellow
wrestlers for not giving him a ride to work. While Riddle does not name
any names, he does seem to be addressing multiple wrestlers at the same
time. Tommaso Ciampa responded to the video with a Tweet of his own,
telling Riddle to “go **** himself.” Ciampa is currently on the shelf
recovering from a neck injury but is expected to be returning soon.

I don’t see this getting him over. Check out the video from Riddle and
then Ciampa’s response:

The boys shall police themselves. Aka go fuck yourself.
https://t.co/utYqw9jG92

- CIAMPA (@NXTCiampa) September 6, 2019

Opinion: The more you hear about him, the more Riddle seems to be his own
worst enemy. He has all the talent in the world and would seem to be
someone that could be a top star in NXT, but that isn’t going to be the
case if he can’t get out of his own way. I don’t know how this was
supposed to make things better, but the video isn’t exactly going to help
his reputation whatsoever.

What do you think of the video? Or of Ciampa’s response? Let us know in
the comments below.

(WATCH): Thats A Big Hint. Local Advertisements Seem To *SPOIL* Clash Of
Champions Main Event.

Posted: 07 Sep 2019 12:57 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/watch-thats-big-hint-local-advertisements-seem-spoil-clash-champions-main-event/

That’s kind of giving things away. Wrestling storylines can go all over
the place at times, with one changing coming after another at the drop of a
hat. That’s one of the things that makes it so much more interesting a lot
of the time as you don’t quite know what you are going to get. Sometimes
you get a little preview though and that might be what a local
advertisement has given us.

Local advertisements for the upcoming September 21 house show in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada feature Universal Champion Seth Rollins defending his title
against the Fiend Bray Wyatt. This would suggest that Rollins will
successfully defend his title against Braun Strowman at Night Of Champions,
which would likely mean that he will defend his title against Wyatt at Hell
In A Cell on October 6. Keep in mind that the plans could certainly change
before the September 21 show.

This tells you a lot. Check out the local advertisement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This might not be the biggest surprise in the world but it does
set up an interesting match. I’m not sure that WWE is willing to make
Wyatt World Champion again but at the same time I can’t imagine them
setting up a character for six months and then have him lose in his first
title match. It makes for something interesting and that hasn’t been the
case for a title match in quite some time.

Do you think Wyatt will get the match? How do you see it going? Let us
know in the comments below.

(VIDEO): At Least It Isnt About Becky Lynch. Ric Flair Announces A New
Deal With Major Company.

Posted: 07 Sep 2019 12:52 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/video-least-isnt-becky-lynch-ric-flair-announces-new-deal-major-company/

He’s still worth something. Over the last few weeks, Ric Flair has gotten
into the WWE’s bad graces by attempting to file a trademark on the term The
Man. WWE has not been pleased with this as they are pushing Becky Lynch as
The Man, meaning a lot of money could be at stake. That isn’t all Flair
has been up to though, as he is now signed up for a new deal which could
bring him some extra money.

As seen in a new video from TMZ Sports, Flair has announced a new deal with
Adidas and plans to help them take down Nike. Flair did not go into
details of what the deal will entail as far as endorsements or products.
He did mention several NBA stars under contract with Adidas, such as Damien
Lillard and James Harden, who he is looking forward to working with in the
future.

Only Flair could make this sound so awesome. Check out his announcement:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: This is a good deal for Flair of course, but at the same time it
also shows just how big of a star he still is. Flair has not been an
active WWE wrestler in over ten years and was well past his prime by that
point. In spite of all the time that has passed though, he is still
someone valuable enough to be signed to a deal like this. How many other
seventy year old wrestlers are going to be able to say that?

What do you think of Flair’s deal? Will the Man issue get him in big
trouble with WWE? Let us know in the comments below.

RUMOR: It Couldnt Hurt. WWE To Start Fantasy Wrestling League.

Posted: 07 Sep 2019 12:47 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/rumor-couldnt-hurt-wwe-start-fantasy-wrestling-league/

Everybody else has one. WWE is in a strange place at the moment as they
are facing a well funded opponent for the first time in a good many years,
meaning that they are going to make some changes. Some of these include
bringing new eyes to the product and then keeping them around, which could
be helped by a new idea that they are rumored to be considering.

According to Brad Shepard on the High Spot Podcast, WWE may be considering
starting its own fantasy league. While there are few details, the league
would not be starting until 2020 and would be run by WWE itself. This
would not be the first time such a thing has been done, as WWE had
something similar in 2004, though fantasy sports have exploded in
popularity since then.

You can listen to the full podcast right here:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Since there isn’t much in the way of fantasy wrestling, this is about as
good as we’re going to get. Check out some fantasy matches that WWE would
like to see:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I have no idea how WWE doesn’t have one of these things already.
Almost any major sport, or even smaller ones, have such a thing, with even
the already defunct AAFL having a fantasy league. It is the kind of thing
that could draw in a lot of fans and if WWE can work the kinks out, it
could draw in not only a lot of fans, but also a lot of money should they
go down that path.

Would you want to play fantasy WWE? Will WWE be able to make it work? Let
us know in the comments below.

The Revolving Doors Continue. Updates On Futures For Two Top Ring Of Honor
Stars, Possibly AEW Bound?

Posted: 07 Sep 2019 12:43 AM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/revolving-doors-continue-updates-futures-two-top-ring-honor-stars-possibly-aew-bound/

There is a lot of talent out there. The wrestling wars have picked up
steam again with AEW changing the way the industry works. With another
major name on the scene, we now have two big time places for people to
work. At the same time though, it can hurt the status of some of the
smaller promotions, who may be losing talents. That may be the case with
two prominent names.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ring Of Honor talents Marty
Scurll (November) and current World Champion Matt Taven’s (September)
contracts are set to expire soon. At the moment, Taven is expected to
remain in Ring Of Honor, as he is a big star in the company. Scurll on the
other hand is expected to move to AEW, which has been the case for several
months now.

The two of them have fought before. Check out the two of them preparing:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: Neither of these are exactly surprises as Scurll has been rumored
to go to AEW since the company was established and Taven is the World
Champion of a company lacking in star power. It would make sense for them
both to make these moves as both would benefit more from making them than
changing anything else. It’s nice that they have options though, which is
what the rise of AEW has offered.

Which of these two will be more successful next year? Who will move to AEW
next? Let us know in the comments below.

Ring of Honor

Date: September 4, 2019

Location: Mattamy Athletic Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman

Hosts: Quinn McCay, Ian Riccaboni

The slow path through the summer continues with another big match from the
Toronto show, which is only about a month old at this point. As much as I
prefer the new format, there is no hiding how messy the whole promotion is
at the moment. Maybe the wrestling can work, but it’s just meandering
through the year with no sense of direction. Hopefully it’s an easy hour of
TV this week, which is all you can ask for around here. Let’s get to it.

We open with the ending of Matt Taven successfully defending the World
Title against Alex Shelley in Toronto. Post match Taven listed off all the
people he’s defeated and knows he’s on the path to being the best World
Champion ever. Cue Rush for the staredown, with commentary bringing up
their history in Mexico.

Ian and Quinn welcome us to the show and preview what’s coming.

We look at Rush beating Dalton Castle for the second time, this time in a
No DQ match in Toronto. This isn’t quite as interested after it was
mentioned that he won in the Taven clip.

Jonathan Gresham says go talk to Jay Lethal about their tag match tonight.

Lethal says he and Gresham have had some issues but now they’re on the same
page. They’re after the Tag Team Titles.

Here’s your weekly rapid fire Top Prospect Tournament discussion.

Dante Caballero is ready to take advantage of his tournament spot.

Joe Keys stands in front of a big fan and admires his physique as, ahem,
shall we say adult music plays. Isn’t Rhett Titus the resident body guy? He
promises to win.

Highlights of Keys vs. Caballero, with the latter winning by submission via
the Crossface.

Video on the Kingdom vs. the Bouncers, which is a downgrade for the Kingdom
and an upgrade for the Bouncers. The Kingdom beat them down and burned Beer
City Bruiser with a lit cigar. Then a fight broke out in Toronto with the
Kingdom getting the better of things.

The Bouncers shout about how angry the Kingdom has made them. They’ll get
sick with the Kingdom.

Vinny Marseglia says he likes the kind of stuff the Bouncers are doing. He
is finally dragging the violence out of the Bouncers because the Bouncers
are all about having fun and drinking beer. Now he is happy.

Clips of a six man CMLL match from Toronto.
Bandido/Mark Haskins vs. Jay Lethal/Jonathan Gresham

Haskins and Gresham start things off with the technical exchange you knew
was coming. A standoff lets Gresham pose a bit as the tiny chants seem to
be going for Haskins. Another takedown gets Haskins nowhere and we take an
early break. Back with the technical off continuing, this time with a
series of headlocks being reversed into a series of headscissors. They
shake hands with Gresham tagging in Lethal and bailing to the floor.

Bandido comes in to a very well received reaction and it’s another standoff
as they’re still not all the way into second gear so far. They trade flips
with neither being able to get anywhere, including a pair of no count
covers into another standoff. The fans are rather appreciative and a
handshake means it’s time to try it again. This time Lethal gets kneed in
the ribs and it’s Haskins coming in for a double basement dropkick. Lethal
fights back but Haskins blocks a sunset flip and stomps on the arm to take
him right back down.

That doesn’t last long though as it’s already back to Gresham, who sends
Haskins into the ropes while Lethal dropkicks Bandido off the apron. We
take another break and come back with Lethal yelling at Gresham for low
bridging Bandido to the floor. Gresham doesn’t have time to argue though as
he sends Bandido into the apron and grabs a chair, which is too far for
Lethal.

Gresham shoves him down and everything breaks down with Haskins hitting a
Death Valley Driver to send Gresham into Lethal for two, with the kickout
offering a shock. A Samoan driver gives Haskins two more so he does it
again, setting up Bandido’s frog splash for two with Gresham diving in for
a save. Gresham sends Bandido into the steps, leaving Lethal to Figure Four
Haskins.

The hold stays on for a long time until Bandido comes back in to powerbomb
Gresham onto Lethal for the save. Gresham and Bandido slug it out with
Gresham nailing an enziguri, only to get caught with a pop up cutter.
Lethal comes back in and gets caught in a torture rack into a GTS. The 21
Plex sets up Haskins’ Sharpshooter to make Lethal tap at 18:22.

Result: Bandido/Mark Haskins b. Jay Lethal/Jonathan Gresham Sharpshooter
to Lethal (18:22)

Matt Taven lists off names he’s defeated and he hasn’t forgotten that Rush
cost him his hair. That was in Mexico but this is his kingdom and he has
been waiting for revenge. Rush’s name is going to the bottom of the list.

205 Live Results - September 3, 2019

205 Live

Date: September 3, 2019

Location: Norfolk Scope Arena, Norfolk, Virginia

Commentators: Vic Joseph, Aiden English, Nigel McGuinness

We’re on the way to a title match at Clash of Champions and that means we
need to heat up the challenger a bit more this week. Therefore it’s
Humberto Carrillo vs. Lince Dorado, which should be quite the high flying
spectacle. Other than that we get some more of all the usual shenanigans
around here, which means a lot of solid wrestling but not much in the way
of stories. Let’s get to it.

We open with Erick Rowan leaving Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns out at
ringside after the end of Smackdown. Reigns slowly gets up, looks at Bryan,
and staggers away. This eats up over four minutes.

Earlier today, Carrillo and Dorado met with Drake Maverick, who confirmed
their match. Dorado asks why he hasn’t had a Cruiserweight Title shot but
Carrillo says that he earned his shot. Maverick makes a deal: if Dorado
wins tonight, the Clash title match is a triple threat.

Opening sequence.
Tony Nese vs. Mike Kanellis

Nese goes straight to a waistlock to start and Mike bails to the rope. A
headbutt works a bit better for Kanellis but Nese sweeps the leg for two as
the announcers talk about the not present Maria. They head outside where
things pick up in a hurry with Kanellis DDTing him onto the ramp for a loud
crash. That’s good for a nine count and the Samoan driver gives Mike two
more.

Maria is watching in the back and the chinlock goes on. That doesn’t last
long so Kanellis backdrops him to the floor for a nasty looking crash. Back
in and we hit the chinlock again. Tony fights up this time and hits a
release German suplex into the corner but it’s too early for the Running
Nese. A spinwheel kick drops Kanellis but the Sunset Driver is broken up.
Kanellis grabs a spinebuster for the same so it’s time to go up, allowing
Nese to snap off a super hurricanrana.

One heck of a clothesline takes Nese down but Kanellis can’t follow up.
Kanellis orders Nese to hit him so it’s a very good left hand to stagger
make Mike stagger. Nese dropkicks him to the floor for the big Fosbury
Flop, setting up a 450 back inside. That’s only good for two in a
surprising kickout and the fans declare this to be awesome. Fair enough in
this case. Nese’s Sunset Driver is countered so he kicks Kanellis in the
face instead. Kanellis superkicks him right back though and the twisting
faceplant finishes Nese clean at 11:30.

Result: Mike Kanellis b. Tony Nese Twisting faceplant (11:30)

Thats so crazy it just might work:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Mike and Maria both look rather pleased.

Ariya Daivari wishes Dorado good luck in tonight’s match and would like a
thank you for the help. Dorado isn’t down with that and says the House
Party can succeed together. He knows Daivari was just in this for himself
and there is no them.

The Singh Brothers aren’t impressed by Akira Tozawa and Brian Kendrick.
They’ll reintroduce the two of them the lights, camera and the Bollywood
action.
Brian Kendrick/Akira Tozawa vs. Brandon Scott/Tyler Hastings

Scott tries a waistlock on Kendrick to start so it’s a blind tag to Tozawa,
who kicks Scott in the face to take over. The right hand knocks Scott down
again and it’s a double Japanese armdrag to make it worse. Hastings comes
in and gets hit in the face again as Nigel can’t believe that Aiden is a
licensed thespian. It’s back to Scott, who gets kicked in the face, setting
up an enziguri/Downward Spiral combination to give Kendrick the pin at 2:42.

Result: Brian Kendrick/Akira Tozawa b. Brandon Scott/Tyler Hastings (2:42)

Welcome to the big leagues:

[This post contains video, click to play]
Post match Kendrick wants to know where Jack Gallagher is this week.
Kendrick expected this but it’s ok because the two of them will face
Gallagher and a partner of his choosing next week. If Gallagher can find a
partner that is.

Nese is furious so Oney Lorcan tries to calm him down, earning himself a
beating instead. Nese does NOT like Lorcan saying he’s been there too.
Lince Dorado vs. Humberto Carrillo

If Dorado wins, he’s added to the Cruiserweight Title match at Clash of
Champions. We get a serious handshake to start an an early flying mare
sends Carrillo flying. The standoff lets the fans do the Lucha Dance until
Carrillo takes him down by the leg. Back up and Dorado flips away from a
wristlock, setting up an armdrag of his own. With that not working, they
chop it out until Carrillo’s springboard armdrag has Dorado in some trouble.

A running hurricanrana puts Dorado on the apron but they switch places,
allowing Dorado to hit a suicide dive DDT for a nasty looking crash. That’s
only good for two back inside and the chinlock goes on, with Dorado
forearming him in the face. A spinwheel kick sets up a nice top rope splash
for two on Carrillo and we hit the reverse chinlock.

That lasts all of a few moments before Dorado puts him on top but gets
knocked down, setting up the great looking missile dropkick. A standing
moonsault gives Carrillo two and it’s a big flip dive to the floor to make
it even worse. Back in and the top rope moonsault gets two more but they’re
both gassed. The Golden Rewind is blocked so Dorado goes with the inverted
hurricanrana for two instead.

Dorado’s chop is countered into a sitout powerbomb for another near fall.
They slug it out with Dorado getting the better of things until Carrillo
kicks him in the head. A spinning enziguri makes it worse but Dorado is
right back with a fireman’s carry gutbuster. The shooting star hits
Carrillo but the bounce means no cover as Carrillo rolls outside. Back in
and a quick hurricanrana finishes Carrillo at 13:49.

Result: Lince Dorado b. Humberto Carrillo Hurricanrana (13:49)

Lucha action:

Post match Gulak runs out and beats down Dorado. Carrillo looks on but
here’s Nese to run him over as well as the old friends are back together.
The Running Nese and Cyclone Clash leave the future challengers laying to
end the show.

Fusion #73

Date: August 31, 2019

Location: Melrose Ballroom, New York City, New York

Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Rich Bocchini

This show is all about the World Title, which is the case for the first
time in far too long. Tonight we’ll be seeing Jacob Fatu defending the
World Title against Tom Lawlor in Lawlor’s rematch after dropping the
title. Fatu hasn’t done much with the title since winning it in the first
place so maybe they can get things back to normal tonight. Let’s get to it.

We open with Fatu promising to finish what he started with Lawlor and
finish him for good.

Opening sequence.
Injustice vs. Zenshi/Air Wolf/Gringo Loco

Injustice would be Myron Reed/Jordan Oliver/Kotto Brazil, who promise to
get justice. Oliver and Loco start things off with Oliver holding up one of
his signs. Loco flips away instead before catching Oliver in a Regal Roll.
A standing moonsault gets two and it’s Wolf coming in for the first time.
Oliver sends him to the apron so Wolf chops him from there for a change.

Zenshi’s standing moonsault gets two and everything breaks down, allowing
Wolf to slam Oliver. That lets Loco springboard off of the back of Brazil
(in a fireman’s carry) for a Swanton. Injustice bails to the floor but pull
most of the good guys outside. That lets Brazil hit a suicide dive onto
Wolf and it’s time for the parade of dives. Back in and Zenshi’s slingshot
splash gets two on Oliver but Reed and Brazil take Loco down.

It’s Wolf in trouble with Reed forearming him in the face, allowing the
villains to keep taking turns. Wolf hits a Pele out of the corner though
and it’s a hot tag to Zenshi to clean house. A 619 over the top rope sets
up a double slingshot faceplant sets up a hard suplex on Reed. Brazil dives
in way late for the save but the referee slowed down his count.

Oliver and Zenshi head outside and it’s Reed hitting a running cutter to
the floor (sweet) to take Zenshi out. Back in and Reed pulls out some brass
knuckles but Loco takes them away and gets in a shot of his own. Brazil
kicks them away from Loco and hits a middle rope X Factor. Reed adds a
slingshot cutter to Wolfe and it’s a standing Sliced Bread from Brazil for
the double pin on Wolf at 10:03.

Result: Injustice b. Zenshi/Air Wolf/Gringo Loco Assisted standing Sliced
Bread to Wolf (10:03)

Mance Warner has been bailed out of jail.

War Chamber rundown. The main event will air the next week on TV.

Kevin Von Erich talks about his sons having the family heart, which they’ll
do in Dallas. Ross and Marshall promise to dethrone Contra.

Dominic Garrini is coming.

Video on Alexander Hammerstone’s recent trip to Pro Wrestling Noah.

Hammerstone is training and isn’t worried if he might have a match against
Davey Boy Smith Jr. at Super Fight. Georgia Smith is on a treadmill and
says she and Davey lifted that much weight when they were kids. The weight
is increased and muscles flare.
MLW World Title: Jacob Fatu vs. Tom Lawlor

Fatu is defending and Josef Samael handles his introduction. Whomever has
the gold controls the league so Contra is in charge of everything. They
slug it out before Lawlor can even get inside and it’s a high crossbody to
put Fatu down. A superkick is blocked and Lawlor takes him down with a
discus lariat. Fatu gets dropped with an enziguri into a belly to back for
two as Lawlor is very fired up here.

The first Samoan drop gives Fatu two and it’s time for the slow beatdown in
the corner. A running headbutt hits Lawlor in the ribs and Fatu bites him
for a bonus. We get a lot of walking around from the champ, allowing Lawlor
to hammer away in the corner. Fatu superkicks him right back down though
and a handspring moonsault crushes Lawlor again. A running kick misses
though and Fatu gets caught in the ropes, allowing Lawlor to hammer away.

Hold on though as Lawlor needs to go after Samael, allowing Fatu to hit a
heck of a suicide dive. Back in and the pop up Samoan drop doesn’t quite
work, allowing Lawlor to grab a sleeper. That’s switched into a choke so
Fatu slams him into the corner for the break. Fatu tries to charge once too
often though and goes head first into the post. Lawlor pulls him off the
corner for an airplane spin into a Death Valley Driver and a near fall of
his own.

Some YES Kicks….just wake Fatu up again so Lawlor hits a running
clothesline to the back of the head but can’t quite follow up. An exploder
suplex sends Fatu hard into the corner and a big boot makes it worse, only
to have Samael get in a spike shot. The double jump moonsault to the back
retains the title at 15:13.

Result: Jacob Fatu b. Tom Lawlor Double jump moonsault (15:13)

Post match Samael and Simon Gotch come in for the beatdown, drawing out the
Von Erichs for the big brawl. The Von Erichs come in for the save but Ikuro
Kwon is out to beat the good guys down. This brings out Low Ki to make the
real save, becoming the fourth member of Team Lawlor.

Injustice b. Zenshi/Air Wolf/Gringo Loco – Assisted standing Sliced Bread

Maybe? Major Update On Ronda Rouseys WWE Status.

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 03:13 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/maybe-major-update-ronda-rouseys-wwe-status/

How times change. In January 2018, Ronda Rousey made her WWE debut and
instantly became one of the biggest stars in all of wrestling. WWE rode
her popularity and star power all the way to the historic main event of
WrestleMania 35. Rousey has not wrestled in WWE since then though, as she
is off trying to start a family. WWE would love to have her back, but a
new story suggests that might not be the case.

Rousey’s WWE.com profile has been moved from the Current Superstars section
to the Alumni section. This is the first indication that Rousey may not be
back in WWE for the time being. There is no reason given for the move,
though it is still possible that Rousey could return at any time. She has
been rumored as a possible surprise at the first episode of SmackDown Live
on FOX.

Rousey was quite the big deal. Check out the main event of WrestleMania 35:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure what this means, as Rousey could be ready to start
the family she wants, or it could be a red herring for a surprise return.
I would be more likely to believe that she is not going to be back anytime
soon. Rousey is not someone who can be around all the time as some of her
mystique would go away. She is only thirty two years old and could work
for WWE on and off for years if she wants to. Either way, she already made
an impact so her options are wide open.

Do you think Rousey will be back? Do you want her to be? Let us know in
the comments below.

Maybe It Could Work. Former WWE Wrestler Running For Congress.

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 03:10 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/maybe-work-former-wwe-wrestler-running-congress/

There certainly is a track record. For some reason, wrestlers have a
decent record in running for political office. Jesse Ventura was famously
the Mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and then Governor of Minnesota while
Kane is the Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. The recent success has made
another former wrestler run for office, though he might not be as well
known.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former Tough Enough
contestant Daniel Rodimer is running for a House of Representatives seat in
Nevada. Rodimer ran for State Senate last year in a losing effort. He
appeared as part of the 2004 Tough Enough season (won by Daniel Puder with
Mike Mizanin as the runner up) and wrestled in WWE developmental until
2007, when he quit the business.

Since Rodimer did not have the biggest wrestling career, we’ll have to look
somewhere else. Check out his campaign ad for Nevada State Senate:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I mean, why not? Wrestlers have an ability to talk and get
people’s attention so maybe Rodimer can have some success with it. He has
earned a law degree since leaving wrestling so he certainly has some
intelligence behind his talking abilities. I have no idea if he is going
to win or not but he is certainly trying to do something, so maybe it can
work out for him.

Do you remember Rodimer? Will he win the election? Let us know in the
comments below.

Hold On A Second. Ricochet Interview Contradicts Reports About Kacy
Catanzaro.

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 03:06 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/hold-second-ricochet-interview-contradicts-reports-kacy-catanzaro/

Ricochet would know better. Injuries happen all the time in wrestling and
you never know how long someone might be on the shelf if they get hurt. It
is a physical sport and things like this are going to happen a lot of the
time. At the same time, you might get some conflicting reports and that
can make things all the more complicated. We might be in a situation where
those paths are crossing at the moment.

Ricochet was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated and talked about
the status of his girlfriend Kacy Catanzaro. Earlier this week, reports
said that Catanzaro would be leaving WWE due to a back injury. Ricochet
says that she is still with the company and not injured, though she may not
wrestle again. He described her as family oriented and wanting kids,
meaning that life on the road may not be for her. WWE has yet to comment
on Catanzaro’s status, though she last wrestled on July 19.

Catanzaro is an athletic freak. Check out one of her earlier WWE matches:
[This post contains video, click to play]

Opinion: I’m not sure what the future holds for Catanzaro but she certainly
seems to be closer to being gone than sticking around. If that’s the case
and she just does not want to be in wrestling, there is nothing wrong with
that. She just might not like being on the road as much and that is
perfectly fine. Her athleticism was nearly incomparable and that was
enough to get her noticed, which she did quite well. Whatever she does,
hopefully she is happy doing it.

Do you think Catanzaro will wrestle again? How big a star could she have
been? Let us know in the comments below.

Update on Ric Flair Trademarking "The Man" Catchphrase

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 01:02 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/update-ric-flair-trademarking-man-catchphrase/

One of the big stories from last week was the report that Ric Flair had
officially filed for the trademark The Man, which has been Becky Lynchs
signature catchphrase that has accompanied her rise to the top of the
wrestling industry.

According the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Flair went
public with his behind-the-scenes issues regarding usage of “The Man” for
Lynch. However, it is believed that he had filed for “To Be The Man,” based
on the name of his book and his catchphrase throughout the years.

The Nature Boy had no problem with Lynch using the term “The Man” when she
was feuding with his daughter, Charlotte. However, Flair did say that since
the phrase is associated with him, he thought WWE would pay him for the
rights, which WWE did not agree with. He evidently became very upset with a
WWE lawyer for telling him he had no case for royalties from the phrase.
Flair then said that his attorney called WWE and they blew him off.

Whie this has gone on as an issue between Flair and WWE, he hasn’t stopped
attending shows and WWE still featured him on Raw Reunion. Furthermoe, it
has not affected his daughter’s booking, since he filed for ownership of
the name. However, he also said that Charlotte is mad at him for taking
this step, even though he said he has no issues with Lynch.

Flair said he didn’t care what WWE thought of this move and that while he
knows WWE loves him, he feels that they don’t have respect for him. He said
that whether he gets the phrase trademarked or not, he has no problem with
Lynch using it.

Becky and Charlotte sure have had their issues in the past:

Editors Opinion:

Come on, Ric. I love you, but really? Youve got more money than you could
ever hope for and you are one of, if not the most beloved and influential
professional wrestler of all time. This isnt a good look, especially with
the rise in popularity of The Man!

Will NXT Be The Third Brand Now That Is On Live Television?

Posted: 06 Sep 2019 12:35 PM PDT
https://wrestlingrumors.net/derekstoughton/will-nxt-third-brand-now-live-television/

One of the major storylines of the past few months has been the news that
NXT will be moving from the WWE Network to the USA Network, beginning on
September 18. This is a huge move for the brand and will give its
superstars a lot more exposure on a nationwide audience.

But, now that it will be on live television, will it be considered a
legitimate 3rd brand for WWE?

According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this
will not be the case and wrestlers will still be called-up to Raw or
Smackdown Live. However, it was mentioned that more call-ups will be
coming, in preparation for the new live format.

Editors Opinion:

I sort of get this and I sort of dont. If youre going to be put a WWE brand
on the same network as its flagship program, that being Raw, then I would
think that you would look at it as an official third brand. In some ways,
this reminds me of the WWE version of ECW, when it was looked as a third
brand. Obviously, there is much more talent and excitement around, NXT,
however, but you get the idea.

Dont mess with The Man. ESPN has released two new ads for their This is
Sportscenter advertisting campaign, featuring current WWE Raw Womens
Champion, Becky Lynch.

The first involves Lynch helping out one of the anchors, whose candy bar is
stuck inside a vending machine. The Man takes a unique approach to solving
the problem:

The second sees The Man ordering some coffee and not being too pleased when

Lynch is currently scheduled to defend the Raw Womens Championship against
Sasha Banks upcoming at the 2019 Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

Editors Opinion:

The Man does it again. I always love seeing this side of her; shes always
been one of the most entertaining and outgoing wrestling personalities on
the roster. Her popularity continues to soar to unparalleled heights and I
wouldnt be surprised if we see her in more motion pictures, much like The
Rock and John Cena, when her in-ring career comes to a close.
