Leather Luster question

Can someone tell me the best way to apply Leather Luster shoe polish to +POS
plate shoes? Also, what's the best way to dye the +POS lettering out?

I just got some Leather Luster myself and haven't tried it yet. As for
the white lettering, I took mine to a local shoe repair shop and had
them dye it for me.

Hi!

To dye the +POS letter, you can use the remover that come with the luster.

The instruction to use the luster are on the box, be really carefull if you
don't want to ruin your shoes.

The solvent (mineral spirits) in the Luster kit should remove the white as well
as the black polish. Just follow the instructions included in the kit or call
POS. Caution: Leather Luster works on real leather only, not synthetics like
Reebok or Nike or Spotbilt. Good alternate: Formula 2001or Armour All.

I would like to suggest an alternative product that WILL work on
non-leAther shoes: Shape-Up.

Shape-Up will work on any pair of shoes, and will not ruin the shoe at all.

Be sure you have all of your work area set up well before you begin
the process. Have the "okay" to use the oven to set your freshly polished
shoes to dry overnight -------this is a terriffic dust free area. By the way,
the
oven is NOT used to cure or bake the product. The oven is used only as a
rack to keep dust from accumulating on the surface while the polish dries.

It also gives your wife a break in that now you can order out 3 days in a row.

Wear some sort of protective gloves and use mineral spirits (or some such
paint thinner or remover solvent) to remove as much as you can of the old
polish. Then take your rough steel wool and have at it. Take lots and lots
of time during this stage. (My mistake #1 was rushing through it)

Note- if your +POS shoes are brand new, then you only really need to
do a quick brush over with the solvent before using steel
wool....................

My first few stabs at using Leather Luster had me rushing through it too
much. Like any good thing in life.......the best takes time. So, take time
to work with the steel wool, starting with rougher moving to finer. Then,
let your plate shoes dry overnight before applying the first coat of Leather
Luster (my former mistake #2). The damp thinner/solvent seems to prevent
long term adherence of the Leather Luster to the shoe. If you have to,
use a brand new black marker to color-dab in any remaining white spots.

Place shoes in oven and put a sign on the oven temp gage that says,
"Don't Use" or some such wording. This is very important. :) (Fortunately,
this was NOT mistake #3) Heee Heeee.

Next evening, apply a thin but even coat of Leather Luster. Blow out in a
downward breath any air bubbles. Don't reapply EVER while the product
is still wet, even if you make a smear. (former mistake #3). You can
smooth this out with steel wool the next night. Repeat again, with steel
wool and the application of another coat.

Shoes in oven again. Sneak a peak before going to work the next
morning and Ooooooo and Awe over them. <g>

Repeat steel wool for a third time but this time, use nothing courser
(is that a word?) than medium fine. Fine is good also. Apply the final
coat and place shoes into the oven. You may want to consider Leather
Lustering your belt with one or two coats.

Next evening, take out your shoes and inspect them carefully. Don't
be too nit-picky. You may see a few specs of dust or some spots which
"puckered" up. Don't worry about it.

Set them on the kitchen counter and then stand like 3-4 ft. away.
If you can't see anything visibly wrong with the shine, then light
up a cigar and smile. :)

P.S.- One final thought: Only use Leather Luster which is thin and
new. After the product sits on the shelf during the off season, it thickens
and then does smooth on evenly. In fact, it leaves streak marks from the
brush/sponge if the Luster is too thick. Try thinning it out with some
paint thinner but really, you should use a new can each season.

1. Use sythetic steel wool to take black and white surfaces off.
2. Thouroughly clean with included cleaner or turpentine.
3. Apply three LIGHT coats of Leather Luster
4. Allow each to fully dry (in the sun if possible).
5. Rough all but last dry coat with synthetic steel wool
