P.S. Get your prescriptions checked, idiots.
Can't argue balls and strikes, and Gardy probably
wanted to get tossed to fire his team up.
That was definitely a strike, but the ump has not
been giving the pitchers that strike all game.
s
why are you watching baseball tonite anyway? sheesh!
I'll be over to the football game in a little bit.

1. The idea of umpires having their own strike zones is mental.
2. Gardenhire may have wanted to be ejected, that's true. Having said
that, it sure didn't seem so, and he didn't deserve it.
3. "can't argue balls and strikes" should be changing, especially as the
technology to prove how bad they're getting it wrong gets better.
4. Pettitte (sp?) got that call three times in the next half-inning.
5. Umpires shouldn't be tossing managers as often as they do, period.
Even if one (wrongly) defends their "right" to toss players, managers,
and coaches for offending them, their threshold for such offence should
be higher in the post-season or they shouldn't be out there.

I've got the football on ESPN Player on the computer.
I'm not sure what you mean by mental, but umpires do have their
own strike zones.
Yes, I saw that too. Pettite got that call at least twice in the
next inning, but Mad Capps got one too just now in the 9th.
I'm not saying the ump is any good. In fact, I think he's terrible.

I forgot I have another TV in this room. Now I'm
good to go.

I'm not rooting for the Twins, genius. The call which could have cost
the Yankees last night was just as bad... and if it had, you know good
and well that the NYY fans would have raised Hell.
So the umpire sucked the entire game?
But, two pitches before was a ball so it evened up. As a Yankee fan
for 70+ years I enjoyed what ensued.
That said, an ump is not supposed to even up.
I called three sports and I adopted the philosophy of Bill Klem. It
ain't nuthin' 'till I call it - and that's what it is.

You'd fit right in with the arrogant MLB umpires. I'd prefer they
follow the philosophy of the rule book, which doesn't allow for
different strike zones for each umpire, and a rule is a rule, not
something left up to their whims.

Butler was robbed. Duke had 54 players on the court.

Calling balls and strikes is not as easy as it used to be. Larger
catchers obscure more of the plate. Where we used to stand almost
erect directly behind the plate, umpires don't do that any more. They
stand to one side dependending on which way the cathcer leans. That
causes the angle of the view to be slightly off line. Fifty years ago
the strike zone was across the plate between the knees and the
lettering on the chest.
Watching the Yankee game last night, if you looked at the pitch path,
Wendelstedt missed half the calls. Players can deal with consistency
but not variance.
Arrogant is not the right word. It means exaggerated opinion. Extreme
self-confidence is a more accurate term. You have to have that to be a
ref/ump and whether it is realistic is the difffer4nce between having
a job and not.
