That's what a girdle head is for. Weld the cracks.

High compression, high RPMs crack non-girdled heads on yammies. You may be
able to find someone to weld it. If not I have a 61x cyl. and a 62t cyl.
for sale. Tim

if you had heavy compression without a girdle head then the pipe did
not do anything! I have jb welded the cracked cylinders but it does not
work forever!

I hate to tell you this, but it's not the pipe's fault. Actually, the cause
of the cracking is not high compression, but in fact, it's the vibration
caused by the increased rpm your engine is turning. Although indirectly, you
could blame the pipe for the increased performance. I've seen plenty of
high-revving, low-compression Yamaha and Kawasaki twins crack cylinders
because of the vibration. While your craft is sitting and running on the
trailer with the water on, note how the crankcase is rock steady while the
top-end is dancing to the beat. Your best be to preventing the problem is by
using a girdled head, but even that won't guarantee indefinite cylinder
life, just prolonged. As many SuperJet owners here can attest to, these high
revvers, which cause a high-frequency vibration only damped by the heavy,
stock exhaust, are often known to "eat" flame arrestors as well.

Welding is one solution, but depending on the severity of the crack, you may
want to have the deck milled to ensure a flat, even surface with the base
gasket area. Since any slight error in the repair could potentially cause
severe damage in the future, I would look into a new cylinder. Oh yeah, and
get a head with a girdle kit, or use one of Pro-Tec's universal girdle kits.

Pro Tec does not suck. Those guys are the best! You should have had a girdle
head.

I am...I just haven't changed my address yet. Everytime I come up with one
that I like, I either forget by the time I'm going to change it or it's
already taken.

When I say protec sucks I mena thier pipes, not any other of thier
products, The design of that pipe is horrible putting all of that
weight to be supported by the cylinder, could this be a sales gimmick
to get you to buy thier girdled head also? And for you MR. Mitchell I
think you are the one that needs to grow up and not post useless
messages like the one you did.

I traded for a GP760 that had a Pro-Tec pipe, and found the same
problem. You needed a head with dual mounting points, and the oem
didn't, plus when I got it, it was all tore up. (mount points) So A
ProTec head it was, then all the harware was messed up, so $100 for the
pipe mount hardware kit! Pretty steep for a few bolts and spacers!
However once all was properly installed, the pipe works great, ski runs
great, and I am happy! :o)

I agree! I have never been dissatisfied with ProTec. They are a hell
of a lot better than Riva. Well their prices suck too, but IMO Riva only
got where they are today by sheer location and able to sell many boats.
ProTec was doing performance before Riva and Rivas stuff always looked
exactly like ProTec to me.

Pro tec is not the cheapest company out there, but sometimes you have to pay
to get good products. By the way, they have a new pipe coming out for the
Super Jet that is said to produce 7600 rpm with just a head and breathers on
your stock 38's. this will remain to be seen.

ive never bought anything from pro-tec.. and ive had yamahas for about 7
years.. just something about them... price maybe? or maybe it was the fact they
had a pipe for the waveblaster wayyy before anyone else did or the fact that it
looked exactly like all their other pipes? no.. maybe it was when i blew off a
guy on another waveblaster who had a pro tec pipe, head, flame arrestors, and
prop with just my coffman piped blaster.. maybe that was it

Their Blaster pipe did suck, but the 760 pipe just happens to work
pretty good. I am a Coffman fan though. They usually make one of the
best pipes on the market. But as we all know, you aren't always going
to the best pipe for every application!

well, years ago when Mac was rippin everyone on his blaster, his pro-tec
balster, I got a chance to ride his "practice" boat - it was fast period!
Pro-tec was doing something right!! His race boats were considerably
quicker than the one I rode, kinda scary when I think of it.

I've had a crank built and a cylinder bored a while back by Protec and
the customer service and machine work were excellent! Kurtis Seebold
and Carl Brown took great care of me.

Thanks for the compliment Fagan. I've ben out of the NG for a while. I now work
for the Kawaski race team and I, as sure as Pro Tec does, apprectiate your kind
words. Pro-Tec is a "First Class Company" as well as Dallas and Mike are people
that deserve the highest industry praise.
Honest people get Honest billing.
