Bought a weekender in Ft. Mohave. Anyone know any semi secret spots to
launch and beach at without having to go to Bullhead City or the AVI.
Group K, you out there? I know you guys are in Ft. Mohave so you must
have some good local info. Thanks in advance.

SeaLion,
The big problem lauching in these parts is that the water levels can change
"alot". When the water is low, the AVI and Jack Smith Park in Needles are the
only safe and easy places to launch. The other option used by locals is the
beaches off the end of Boundry Cone Road (on Indian land). AWD and aggressive
tires are required.... as well as a permit from the local Aha Macav Indians
(you can an annual permit for about $25 at the Indian office north of the
Willow Beach Marina).

You'll be spending plenty of time learning the rock/sand bars between Needles
and Bullhead.... South of the Needles bridge there are virtually no shallow
spots, and 40 miles of glass (that's the only place we ride recreationly).

Give me a call if you need any help.

Respectfully, Harry Klemm

Is it ok to launch at the AVI if you are not a guest there? That is the
closest spot. I am very familiar with the low and high water on the
stretch from Laughlin to Havasu. Most of my riding is done there but
mainly was between Topock and Needles. It will be concentrated more in
the AVI and Rotary Park area now. Is Sun Valley Estates a good location.
That's where I bought. Mohave Valley is booming. Oh my realtor also took
me on a dirt road out of Rio Lomas that leads down to the water and nice
beaching area but obviusly no launching there. I kinda figured that the
FMIR areas that are close won't have any access but it didn't hurt to
ask. Thanks for the info. BTW, where is your shop? I kept an eye open to
see if I can spot it while house hunting but didn't see it.

SeaLion,

congrats on the new place. My wife and I were thinking about getting a
place out there, but we don't know any place to launch besides the AVI and
Needles Marina. We usually stay at Needles Marina for the weekend and like
there beach area, but if you don't stay there, you can't use it. They will
let you luanch ( for a fee of course) but you can't use there facilities.

So, when is the house warming party?

Hey SeaLion,

As Juan said, when is the party?!

Yeah, you can launch at that Avi but you have to buy a launch permit there.
No need to be a guest there. I personally don't like the place because it's
too crowded and there are lots of idiots that seem to stay there. I saw a
kid no more than 10 years old riding a stand up there in the busy part of
the river. His parents should be bitch slapped.

Congratulations on the place, man.

Juan, The Rotary Park in Bullhead has a huge beach with cabanas, launch
ramp and plenty of parking. It is about 6 miles from me and that's
probably where I will end up most of the time. It's only $50 for an
annual pass. I just thought there might be some local spot that is away
from the crowds of the AVI but I guess there really isn't much. I have a
little work to do on the place and then it's party time.

Jim, so with the pass you can launch but can you use the beach too? I am
going to stay at the AVI this Fri. because I have a home inspector
appointment and termite inspector. I'll find out straight from the
source. In the off season months there is no one there riding anyway so
it will be a good place to launch and hang out. That whole area is
booming and hopefully this becomes a good investment too. Party will
happen once I do a little remodeling. Stay tuned!

They don't allow chimps in there....not even on a leash. You monkeys throw
your feces.

That annual pass is $50 if you're not a local. If you are a local, I think
it's only $25.

I always go to that beach near the white gas line that is just south of the
state park, Buckskin? I think, on the Nevada side.
Nice stretch of beach if there isn't an RV parked the wrong way across it.
I've found a beach cart necessary to get the skis in the water because the
sand is soft.

Otherwise, almost any road in Bullhead heading West seems to end up in the
water. We've just launched and pulled the truck up the road a bit.
Also, we've launched just south of the bridge crossing into Laughlin on the
AZ side. Kinda shallow right there.

As much as I hate to admit it, I am from CA. If I do buy a place out there
though, I would try to register the my boat and ski out there, wether it is
NV or AZ.

SeaLion,
I know the spot you're taking about. Two years ago I was staying at the
Flamingo Hilton and my room was facing the river. I woke up that morning
about 10:30 and looked out my window when I saw a pick-up truck launching a
jetski and it got stuck. The water level was low at that moment but I knew
it was going to start rising soon. I watched 3 or 4 guys trying to pull the
truck out but it just shank into the sand. After about 15 minute, two
trucks hooked up pull ropes and tried to pull it out but it just wouldn't
come out of the sand. After watching them from my room at the Flamingo -
the attempt to pull that truck out for about 30 minutes, I realized the
water level had come up to the inside of the truck and that the two other
trucks didn't appear to have 4 wheel drive. I realized that they were going
to need a 4X4 to pull that truck out. I ran down to the parking lot,
disconnected my jetski trailer and drove to the other side of the river to
help pull them out. With the help of my Chevy Suburban 4X4 and it's 454
engine I pulled him out like it was an empty jetski trailer. Therefore, if
you use that spot on the river just south of the bridge, you'd better have a
4X4 or at least have one standing by.
