Hi,
I recently jumped into pwc's, so forgive me if this is a newbie
question.

I bought a used '99 Polaris SLTH and have taken it out 3 times so far.
Each time it runs fine for a while, then suddenly, when going from
full/medium
throttle to idle, it will die. Then it starts fine, but bogs when given
gas and won't go anywhere. It dies if I give it too much gas, but starts
ok. I start it and it dies a few times, then usually 2-3 minutes of
this,
it starts and runs fine. It only has one of these spells each time I
take
it out, but it is very uncomfortble when I am so new at this and in the
middle of the lake. :) The first time this happened, I noticed that the
choke wasn't all the way off, (barely on) and it seemed to fix it. But
the 2nd and 3rd times, this wasn't the case.

What could be causing this? I was the first to ride it this summer and
the
guy I bought it from claimed he winterized it himself. Is there such
thing
as summerizing? ;-) Could it be bad gas/oil or plugs?

Thanks for any hints
Robert

Some might say that it's rich, but I think you are lean on the low
screws. Especially your explanation of the choke being partially on
helping really makes it sound like it is lean. Turn the low speed screws
out in 1/8 increments and see if it helps. Also fresh gas and new plugs
wouldn't be a bad idea either.

This thing seems to have CDK carbs which won't be easy for the novice to
adjust. You've got to remove the (limit screws) if you want to turn them
more than 1/4 turn. Also, a special screwdriver is requried to get at the
rear carb.

Eck!! Carb adjustments! LOL

I'll try the fresh gas and plugs first. But, I think I can handle the
carb adjustments. I used to work on all my cars in high school.
I had a '68 baha vw bug, so lord knows, I got some tuning experience
with that thing. haha. Hope it's somewhat similar. Of course, that
was 10-15 years ago, now I just buy new vehicles. LOL.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll break out the repair
manual I purchased when bought the ski, for back up.

I thought those Kehins do have adjusters for the low but not the
highs??? I'll have to check my SLT700 that has Keihins as well. You can
see I don't play around with the 3 seater too much :)

if you havent done it yet I would replace the plugs and syphon the old gas
out. then start with new gas and plugs. if you are using the old fuel it
could be bad if he didnt use a fuel stabilizer. also the carbs could be
gummed up if he left gas sititng in there over winter
