BTW: Grabowski does make a fast 125cc ICC. I have seen his shit at the track.
I would never do business with him because I think he's a little crazy. But his
shit does go............
How much is one of these karts and then how much to maintain, race, etc.
I need to give my wife a ballpark figure (it can be a big ballpark) of
how much this new "sport" might cost. Got to be less than the 25K worth
of jetskis sitting in the garage right now (right?) That's the nice
thing about autocross, dirt cheap but no wheel to wheel makes it kind of
boring pretty quickly. Plus, I can set a track record through 3/4ths
of the course and then down every last freaking cone because I get the
"I'm gonna win this sucker" shakes. Wheel to wheel I can at least race
the other guy instead of my track times.

Tom, your going to spend between 5800 + 7200 for a tunekey T.A.G. class kart.
You need things like a kart stand, compressed air, tire pressure gauge, generic
metric tool kit, jets for the carb and a air density gauge just to start. If age
or fitness is an issue I would get a Deep Seat brand of seat. This seat will
support your ribcage in a manor that distributes weight without digging ribs
into the edge of the seat (pain). Vary common to the newbee's.
Before you spend a single dollar go to a local track. Hang out and take it all
in. See how many practice days per season there are. Don't get intimidated by
the drivers . The learning curve is fast because there really is no such thing
as "joy" riding in a kart at a race track. Your either practicing to go fast or
your racing........hopefully again, trying to go fast.
At the track find out who and where the good kart shops are. Not some goofball
working out of his garage. Ask if they will come to the track with you the
first time out.You need to have someone kind of take you under thier wing at
first to get you started. I see alot of people blow out the back door because
it was all to much the first couple times out and it wasn't any fun.....so they
sell all thier shit before they even experience the sport.
Buying new is safe .Used karts can be bent or worn out. I kart chassis turns by
flexing to lift the inside rear tire. A life time of flexing and the kart is
worn out. DON'T BY A RENTAL AT ANY PRICE!
BTW: I used to race ski's..back in the day. I made the change to karts and only
wished I had started sooner. The level of competition would blow you away. You
can make a change to a kart and see a tenth per lap.You can take the same line
as the guy 1 foot in front of you. You just can't do this kind of stuff in the
water. I'm not putting down the ski racing, god knows I did it to death. I'm
just saying this is way different and much more structured.
O.....and Bill, I think the guy your talking about at JM is Jean!
Good luck, karts can be real fun, especially if you don't get totally
consumed in them. Keep the PWC's, as they make for a great diversion from
the other toys.

You are one to talk. First, kart racing won't work for you because you
can't ride for five minutes and then go have a beer. Second, no such
thing as a sixteen mile straight away, you've eventually got to turn and
we've seen you try to turn before. Third, unless you lose some of that
belly, your short arms won't reach the steering wheel if they set it far
enough away to accommodate your gut. Third, you do understand these
aren't the go karts you buy at Wally World, don't you? There are a few
for sale on ebay that look interesting but I'm taking Nasty's advice
into mind about buying new. Remember, your the guy that took a
turbocharged, all wheel drive Audi A4 and lost to a naturally aspirated
1.6Liter Miata with 120K miles on it - LOL. Bring that german
frankfurter out to the Richmond raceway autocross one weekend and we'll
see how you do. If you can beat my track times, I'll pay your entry
fees!!!! Plus, I guarantee you've I've got the fastest dining room chair
on the lake!!!! Winter sucks!!!!
