Last summer I noticed oil in my bilge. I had overfilled my oil container and
thought that was the reason. It wasn't a lot but any oil in the bilge is too
much for me. At the end of the season I took it to the guy that does my
servicing and he told me that water had contaminated my impeller housing. He
indicated that it appeared that he had cross threaded one of the bolts when
assembling the part in the spring and because of that he replaced the
housing and a bearing at no charge. The Doo was then put in winter storage.
Yesterday I launched it and went for a ride. When I came back I checked the
bilge and there was a lot of oily water in it. I sponged the water out and
could see oil oozing toward the stern from somewhere up front. The mechanic
told me that he had checked my oil system and all appeared fine, no leaks
were detected. This does appear to be gear oil rather than injection oil
however with it coming from the front of the boat I have no idea what may be
wrong. I will be taking it back to my service guy on Thursday but if anyone
has any ideas that I would be able to discuss with him I would appreciate
your input.
Thx.

it is probably from the overfill. i've done the same....wash it out with
dish washing soap.

Rick:

I have the 1998 GTX RFI and was chasing down a oil leak about a year ago. It
turned out to be the oil reservoir leaking as the temperature inside the
hull rose. I replaced the reservoir and so far have not experienced another
leak. The oil in the bottom of the boat did not look like SeaDoo Synthetic
after it was mixed with some water while looking at however if I tool some
and placed it on a white paper towel it was apparent that it was coming from
the oil injections system somewhere.

Check your reservoir along the seam for any oil residue.

Rick,
Anytime you overfill your oil tank higher than the top of it, it will
leak out the check valve. Also check your filler hose. On some
Seadoo's the hose was blowing out. Also check your seam on your oil
tank. Though Seadoo said they had fixed the problem in 2000, we were
still seeing faulty tanks on 2001 models.

that overfill was in July 02, I used the Doo all last summer and cleaned out
my bilge on a regular basis. There was still oil at the end of the year and
when he discovered the impeller housing problem I thought that was likely
the reason. The oil tank is only half full now so I can't be leaking out the
vent now.
