Hi all, I could really use some help if anyone might have a suggestion. I
can't find anyone locally that can diagnose my problem. My 1992 Kawasaki
750sx standup has the following problem: In or out of the water, it idles
just fine and when you give it gas, it revs up just fine. But about every
5th or 6th pull of the throttle, it will start to bog like it's getting
flooded. When it happens, you can let completely off the throttle for a
second, then when you give it throttle again, full power is back and it revs
up fine. In the water, I can give it full throttle and it has plenty of
power, but then at (what seems like) random times, it will just begin to bog
and if I keep the throttle applied, it will die. I have to let completely
off the throttle for a second, then full power is back when I apply throttle
again. On smooth water, I can go full throttle for 50 to 100 yards before it
happens (in other words, a fairly long distance). Engine was rebuilt 2 years
ago by a well known mechanic so I feel fairly comfortable that it's not an
engine problem. Also the spark plugs are new but they are getting black and
slightly wet when I examine them.

I have rebuilt the carb and set the needles to factory settings and still
the same thing happens. So I disconnected the water "over temp" sender and
it still happens. I did this because the "bogging" symptom is very similar
to a reduced spark that happens when the sender goes over temp. A mechanic
has checked the spark and said that he sees a reduced or intermittent spark
when the bogging occurs. He thinks that the over temp sender is to blame but
I disagree because the sender is completely disconnected and the problem
still exists. All wiring inside the electrical box is good, no shorts, etc.
I just installed a new igniter box today and the problem still exists. The
only electrical components left to replace are the coil, regulator and over
temp sender.

MY QUESTIONS:
1) Has anyone ever seen this type of problem before?
2) Does anyone have a known good complete electrical box for sale or that I
could try?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm at a loss.......
Kevin.

I had the EXACT same problem with my 90 650sx at one time. Mine was
modified with a pipe, carb, and milled head.

I originally thought it was starving for fuel, so I put a restrictor
in the fuel return line. Didn't work. The carb was fine too. So was
my elec box.

The problem actually went away. Not sure why, but it did.

To this day, I think it was the coil. Mine didn't have any type of
temp sensor on it.

Kevin, I had a 550 that did the exact same thing. I figured out that it was
the waterbox. It had come apart inside and was blocking off the exhaust. I
would bypass the waterbox for a quick test, see what happens. It doesn't
sound electrical to me.

Hi all, I've received several good suggestions. I'll keep you posted as to
what the final fix is. In the mean time, if anyone else has seen this, let
me know. Thanks, Kevin.
