I am thinking about putting a 650sx motor in either my JS440 or 550. I will
probably use the '89 440 because it is in better shape. I am looking for
anykind of tips/pointers like:

Is it worth it.
What Performance gain with stock 650 motor?
parts I need to get?
Do I need to do anyhting with the prop?
Does everything "connect up" nicely?
Places on the web that might have all this info
Places to get parts, including the motor

Any info will help.

I saw an add saying they dropped a 650 w/pipe in a 550 and get constant
58....sounds like bull shit to sell something, so take it for what it is.

It was done by several people back when the 650 sx first came out. The best mod
was putting that 650 motor in a 300sx for surf riding! the 300 sx (not to be
confused with the 300 JS ) was a gas like that

Dunnavant has the engine adapter plates in stock. They did several of
these years back. Call them at 800-685-4430.

Don't bother with the 650 go for the 750 motor. Lots of fun. Tight fit. Use
a 650 style pipe and prop it right.

i have installed 2 750 engines into 440/50 hulls. they both worked great!
i'd choose a 750 over a 650, but if you have the 650, it's spendy to get the
750 stuff. i know there are good deals here on the net tho. i've seen
several advertised on these very pages. mine did not work well at all with
the 440 pump! would rev to the moon, and not go anywhere. i used (and am
using) an '89 550 pump, and it works great! about 53 mph is what i'm
getting. the outfit that started the whole conversion deal was jetcraft
engineering out of lake havasu. steve george i think is proprietor. he
made the first adapter plates. makes the deal a bolt in affair. (almost).
but, a note of caution. one of the reply posts said, 'don't waste your
time'. its true, i have this beast ready and waiting to ride every day, but
i'll ride my superjet over it any day. seriously, it's a handful! but good
luck! scott

Probably not worth it - it depends on what parts you got laying around. If all
you have is a 440 and a 550 with no 650 or 750 parts, the answer is no - buy a
used 750SX/SXi or a used Superjet (or buy my project!).

I built a js550 with a 750 engine - actually it's for sale $1700 firm (details
at www.nyx.net/~eedmiste/js.html). If you could sell your 440 or 550 for
$250-$350 and get my already prepped JS550 project you would definitely have a
deal.
