Background info: 96 zxi1100, took to FL. Cracked the hull and had it repaired,
got a little seawater in the bendix so I bought another bendix and starter.
They work fine. I just put the motor back together and it wont start. When I
hit the start button you dont hear anything. I also noticed that the trim is
not working, it makes a little click sound(very minor) under the steering cable
area.

I unhooked the pos wire that goes to the starter and when I hooked it up to 12v
it turned over fine. So its not in thestarter or bendix. Is there a starter
relay in a zxi? What could cause this?

Your help is appreciated as always,

Thanks,

Matt

LOL ....... My roomoate went through this same problem on his 96 ZXI 900.
You need to take the trim box apart and clean it out. Yes the trim box....
dont ask me why kawi put a main power wire through the trim box that will
also cause the ski to not start but they did. The trim box will leak on
you no matter what you do to seal it up so my roomate is moving it to a
higher location in the hull. With this problem comes the trim shutting down
and over $300 in trim parts in that box. Clean all conections in the trim
box and you should be able to get it started. There will probably be some
bad corosion in there. Move the box to higher ground. Next will be the
gauge package to blink out on you ....... not trying to jinx you but keep an
eye on all conections in that ski.

While your in there use some jumper wires to adjust your trim to a nutral
position till you can afford the parts to fix it. Just jump power to the
motor, it will most likely be the other parts in there that are toast. My
roomates trim motor looked like hell but he took it out and cleaned and
lubed it up and it works fine now.
good luck

I've never had a problem with the trim in my 97 900zxi. Am I atypical in
this regards?

OK, so you are saying that thee is some wiring that goes through the trim box
that can become corroded and cause the trim and the start button not to
work.... I will check it out, thanks.

It just seems so odd that the starter button was working fine. And when I pull
the motor and replace the bendix I have this problem. Is it coincidence or do
you feel that I may have done something when hooking up the motor?

If you look hard enough online you can find a wiring diagram for that PWC.
My roomate did and thats how he found the power wire running through the
trim box that also goes to the start switch. The wire that powers the start
switch can be cleaned and you should be all set but as for the trim you will
most likely have to replace parts. There are sealed parts in there and they
still get water into them. There are two main components besides the motor
in the trim box. The one that has the arm that swings back and forth to
send a signal to the gauge on the dash is probably your problem. Trust me
, open the trim box and clean all of your conections in there. I can
probably make a copy of the wiring diagram and post it on the pics NG if you
would like?

While we are on the subject, I have a 900zxi that the trim nozzle died on. I
have taken apart the "trim box" and removed the computer board that controls
the trim nozzle & gauge, and it is toast. I have heard that they all leak.
Anyway, I am looking for that little computer board to buy, If you know of
somewhere I could get one let me know. I have priced it at my local KAW
dealer, it was $150. I almost fell over in the parts dept. laughing/crying.
I put it all back together without the board for now. I would like to come
up with a way to convert it to manual operation. I was thinking about a
cable like the choke cable.

Other than the trim nozzle, this has been a great ski so far.

Any help is appreciated.
