Just purchased a new 96 1100ZXI. Was concerned with the porpoising
problems I had heard about and seen.
The new craft had the bow modification and the protype of the new
sponsons.
The only difference between the Prototype and the new production sponsons
is the color. Says Kawasaki Techical Services.
The good news is the watercraft carves really well.
The bad news is the craft still has a terrible problem with porpoising.
The KATS system must remain turned off in order to keep the craft on the
water. Full down trim.
I am a 280# rider almost sitting on the handle bars, full tank of gas and
it still won't stay down.
I would think Kawasaki is in for a terrible 97 with the 1100ZXI!
Have any of you solved this problem.
Need your input.
I know. Should have bought a Doo.
Thanks,

Matthew D.

Buy a set of "Beach House Express" sponsons, those will work. Just be
prepared to think your riding an XiR or XP. It sounds like the new OEM
sponsons aren't low enough to push the bow down. They most likley are not
IJSBA legal anyway..

Thanks for the feedback! I just ordered the Worx GRP Sponsons! I wish
your message had made the news group a day sooner.
Brad did you use a ride plate? Which brand?

Maby you can send them back I just read in PWI that Kaw has a
recall to change your stock sponsons on the 1100zxi I doubt there
as good as after market sponsons but if thier free thier worth a
try. call your dealer because i'm sure you wont be getting any
kind of notice, you know don't give them any thing unless they ask.

Matthew--
Brad does not have a ride plate for two reasons. First, the problem that
Kawasaki tried to rectify with the bow modification may be aggravated by
the ride plate, and second, the increased drag from the ride plate would
slow the boat down. He also has a ride plate that may actually function
to keep the back end "sucked down," allowing the sponsons to do their job
more effectively.

Brad,
I am using the new Sponsons that you read about in PWI!

Did you use an aftermarket ride plate?
I will be on the water Saturday morning with my bag of parts.
I have heard that the R&D rideplate creates bow stear.
I guess I will find out for myself this weekend.

Matthew, yea I'm not using an extended ride plate, only the stock one.
Depending on what kind of riding you desire, the Worx sponsons might be
fine. I tried some Fiberworks sponsons back earlier in the year but they
didn't control the porpoising.

Oops. Just realized what I meant to say. The last sentence of the
previous message should have read: "He also has an INTAKE GRATE that may

I still haven't figured out the big problem. I got the first 1100
that anybody knows of. In fact Kawasaki put a hold on it so they
wouldn't be showing dealer favoritism. I have been in every condition
since the first week of March and have had no dive problem. They
aren't touching my ski with that add on hull tumor. I also have no
problem with porpusing, especially with two people where it usually
shows. But the Beach House Express sponsons will keep you glued down
better and get you out of the hole quicker. Not to mention, hold on
for dear life when you turn. DO USE LOCTITE though. I've seen
several sets ripped off from lost front screws. I'm still trying to
find those replacement sponsons.

Contain yourself..
Only ski on days that end with "Y"...

PS. We repeatedly proved on a stock ski and one of the Bud tour ski's
(Rob Mills) that the Beac House Express sponsons take off two to three
mph on top end.
