Is it just me, or does this deal seem a teensy-weensy lop-sided? I've seen
Manson play quite a bit over the last couple of years, and this seems like a
lot to pay for toughness. Mirinov and a 1st round draft pick would seem to
be a lot to pay for Manson.
Perhaps Paddock does indeed have bigger fish to fry.

Gotta hate that bad news! The return of the ugliest man in hockey! The
return of the ugliest play in hockey! I will be intrigued to see just how
Dudley Do Wrong will turn hockey's greatest player into just another
lunch-pail carrier.

One thing which must be kept in mind is that the Jets' defense is their
achilles heel. Paddock made this move in order to provide some
toughness on the blueline, the type of player which even Mike Smith was
looking for this year.
Apparently Manson is here to stay. The fan reaction has been more
positive than negative at the prospect of finally getting a defenseman
who can hit. Igor Ulanov does a fair job when he's on his game, and is
now expected to remain with the team. Also, if he can be believed (last
week he said that he wasn't going to trade either his first round pick
or Mironov) he won't be making any more major deals before the
deadline, but he may make a minor move.
I guess we'll just have to see how the move works out, but I fear that
the Oilers will be a much improved team in the long run as a result.
