I would be interested in hearing everyone's theory about who the most
aggressive goalie in the NHL is. I'm pretty new to hockey (this season)
and was watching a Wings game (sorry, don't remember the opponent) where
Osgood just floored someone in front of him. Two hands in the middle of
the back and the dude went down. That got me thinking about the
different levels of aggressiveness in goalies. I'm not experienced
enough to have an opinion or any true knowledge about this. But I would
love to hear other's opinions.

I think that Ron Hextall of the Flyers has been the most aggressive and
hot tempered goaltender in the league. However, he controls his temper
better lately. I remember an incident in Montreal last season, where he
went into the corner and flattened Mark Recchi with a somewhat legal
check. It didn't seem fair, because Recchi would receive a penalty for
hitting Hextall. The rules don't seem to address goalies initiating contact
with skaters.

Tom Barrasso will crosscheck or slash anyone who spends more than
about 1 second in his crease.

That's very common - simply because it's not called by the referees, and it
takes care of the problem very easily :-)

My opinion right now is that Darcy Wakaluk has taken Ron Hextall's crown as
the most agressive. Hextall and Ed Belfour come in right behind Mr. Wakaluk.

Nobody can touch Billy Smith of the New York Islanders for aggressiveness.

Ron Hextall is tame now compared to when he broke into the league.

Tom Barraso aggressive? Give me a break!

I'll tell you this, it's NOT Osgood. He is typically very relaxed and
calm in net. The last two months, though, with the playoffs nearing,
he's standing his ground. The incident you refer to had Courtnall (I
think) coming in on Osgood, in what I think was an obvious attempt to hit
him (he left his feet, after all) and Ozzy stepped in front of him and
flattened him. Osgood got the penalty (which wasn't THAT bad of a call,
but the Blues player deserved one too...)

Apparently Keenan was not happy when McCarty ran Casey (who was apparetly
decapitated, according to Keenan's reaction), and I wouldn't be surprised
if Keenan told Courtnall to run Osgood, who has been the Wings' saving
grace.

Just one Wings fan's opinion

well if brodeur wasn't so damn good, maybe we'd get to see some for or
corey schwab, eh doug? the way he hammered on soderstrom (in his one
START over the last 50 or so devils games) ought to get him a touch of
credit.
