Anyone out there know the correct pronunciation of Ciccarelli? Several
announcers pronounce it Sissarelli. I knew some Italian once and I
suspect it should be pronounced Chickarelli. Anybody know?

Based on his prior records, it should be pronounced Sickarelli. (Sorry, can't
resist...)

Being Italian myself, the *correct* pronunciation is "Chickarelli". But
Dino's parents (who immigrated to Canada) could have "americanized" the
pronunciation to avoid complete mutilation of their last name. My father
did the same thing with our last name when he immigrated in 1965, but we
still get some far-fetched pronunciations and spellings.

When he was a member of the Minnesota North Stars, he had about 4 different
pronunciations. Chickarelli was one of them. Finally the news media here
settled on "Sissarelli".

What is up with this? "GO DETROIT RED WINGS!" ?
I thought you were supposed to be at least somewhat in favor of the Sharks
winning a few games. But to openly root for the "enemy" in this case? I also
noticed this when the Sharks/Ducks/Kings were fighting for the last playoff
spot you were behind the Ducks. Who elected you as the Sharks' contact?

Judging by the dives he's been taking against the Sharks this series, I believe the correct pronunciation should be either "Sissyrelli" or "Pussarelli"!

OBTW: Fraser sucks!!!

Yup, Chickarelli is right, but if Dino wants to anglisize his name
and make it Sissarelli, that's his right.

The name is pronounced Sissarelli. Dino comes from my home town, Sarnia Ontario and I know
the family. I also played junior against him.

Really? Cool! I know some people who know him and he is reputed to be quite
the hellion. Must have been fun to know as a kid.

When Dino played for the Caps, and he is still sorely missed down here, it was
pronounced Sissarelli.

Now something in the back of my mind says that most fans and people around the
league pronounced it "chickarelli" and he corrected it, and the announcers down
here began using it.

At least I think so...

Up here in the Great White North, the English-speaking announcers say
"Siss-a-relli" and the Francophones say "Chick-a-relli". The proper
English pronunciation would be the former only because it has no doubt
been Anglicised for generations. Sort of like Matt "Del-joo-dis" instead
of "Del-gwee-dee-chay".
