Hey Fans,

I'd like to hear some chatter about what ticket prices are
for various NHL teams. I read some chap's post on how
he wish he lived in Denver because he heard in this forum
that he could get 2 seats to 22 Avalanche games for $440.
Yea, its true, but he'd be sitting in the last 5 rows
against the back wall in the upper deck of McNichols Arena.
He'd see more of the lighting scaffold that Sammy Hagar
once traversed during a Van Halen concert than hockey.

I also had read some meanderings about tickets for the Ottawa
Senators. Tickets for 65.78 and 41.42, or something
like that--Canadian dollars. Are all Canadian tickets priced at
such odd amounts?

Here are the Colorado Avalanche's ticket prices for '95-'96: (US Dollars)

Section Name Single Game Season Ticket Comments
Rinkside-Glass $100/seat $4200/seat Ya like bein' on TV? (1 row)
Rinkside $65 $2730 5 rows
Prime Loge $45 $1890 5 rows on end/18 rows cntr
End Loge $35 $1470 13 rows on end
Lower Center Balcony $25 $1050 first 12 rows of center balc
Upper Center Balcony $20 $840 last 5 rows of center balc
Lower End Balcony $15 $630 first 12 rows of end balc
Upper End Balcony $10 $420 last 5 rows of end balcony

The Avalanche have sold 12,000 season tickets, leaving only the upper and
lower end balcony seats. For those seats, Comsat is selling 14 game
"Fan Plans" where one gets a 1/3 season seat.

My opinion: Tickets for the Avalanche are too expensive, but if they
sell out every one of their 42 home games, I guess Comsat is not squeezing
out every possible nickel.

Boy, I'd like to be back in Monteral to dash for a good standing spot
for a measly $12 CDN!! If you were fast, and knew where you were going,
you could get a great view of the game. What are the prices in the
Molson Forum?

I believe the Blues have the highest tix in the league.

I have 2 seats in the third pricing range at Kiel Center for the Blues.
$2816 for 44 games (3 preseason). That's $32(US) per seat.

It would help for us all if you told us where you would sit in the arena
if you paid for a ticket of that price.

The ones I know for the Senators from last season:

per game

Ice Level: $110
Senate Section: $100
Lower Bowl (Center): $060
Lower Bowl (Ends): $055
Upper Bowl (Center): $040

Could anyone correct, update or add ticket prices to this list for the
Senators? Those were the prices when I went to see the Nords win against
the Sens two years ago 2-1. my seats for that game were Section 22, Row
H, Seats 10, 11. That falls under Lower Bowl (Ends) right folks.

No they don't. Take a look at the Hawks' ticket prices...they range from
$75.00 Level 100, Rows 1-10 down to $15.00 for 300 Level back few rows. Well,
at least they didn't raise them this year....

This all depends on your perspective. Do you sit in the expensive or the
cheap seats ? Like the Hawks, the Rangers have many expensive ($85 last
year) seats, but still have plenty of seats in the $15 - $24 range. I
don't care if the team gouges the martini crowd who are writing the
expense off anyway, as long as they have some reasonably priced tickets
with decent views at the low end. IMHO, $38 and $33 are very high,
rock bottom prices.

My gripe with the Hawks is that the third tier is so far away from the
action, as it is in most of the new arenas. I'll take the Stadium
any day.

John (whose original post follows at the bottom),

Point taken, $33-$35 for the "cheap seats" at Kiel Center definately beats out
the $15 300 level seats at the United Center. Yes, I'd take the Stadium over
the U.C. just because it has lots of great memories, and "felt" more like a
place to watch hockey.

You could call where I sat last season the "martini crowd", (100 Level).
BUT...the person that had the Season Tickets a) doesn't drink martinis b) does
not write it off as a business expense, has NEVER taken a client in 15+ years.
Before I turn off my defensive mode (sorry) he has to work 60-70 hours/week
just so that he _can_ sit that close to the game in the 100 level seats.

The martini drinking crowd can be found in the "luxury skyboxes" section which
go for some incredible amount per year. I'll betcha they allow peanuts in the
skyboxes, which they DO NOT allow in the regular seats. (They have U.C.
security that "confiscate them" if you can believe it) They allowed 'em at
the Stadium, another reason to miss it!

To expand the poll a little, what "amenities" are offered to the season ticket
holders? Discounts on tickets? Videos and other little gifts? Stuff that
you can't get if you're not a season ticket holder.

Those are the single game prices...season tickets are somewhat more
reasonable (but not much.) I can't speak for all of the prices, but
the mezzanine center seats are only $32/game when you buy the whole
season package. The only reason people say that the Blues have the highest
tix in the league is because they don't have those nosebleed seats that you
can buy for next to nothing.

St. Louis doesn't come close to being the highest. I have 2 season club seats
for the Sharks and they are $73 each. They have risen every year since the
Sharks came to San Jose (from the Cow Palace in SF). They say that 98% of
Season ticket holders have renewed this season but one day they will price
even the richest out of the game. Next they will be charging a fee just to be
able to purchase season tickets (like the Raiders). Oh well when you love
hockey I guess you put up with alot.

No offense was intended with the "martini" comment. The $85 ticketholders
at Madison Sq. Garden get waiter service, coat check (probably other
stuff). Gene Hart (Flyers announcer) broadcast a game from this location
and he said that he never saw anybody drinking martinis at a hockey
game before. If your friend is having fun and getting his $$-worth,
more power to him.

The spread between the most and least expensive ticket seems to be
growing as teams realize that some people are willing to pay. $1000
courtside seats for basketball are a good example. My point was
that (for many people) mean or median ticket prices aren't as
important as the quality and price of the low end seats. You were
right on top of the action in the Stadium balcony. The third tier at
UC looks very distant from the action.

John (or any NYR fan),

I just saw something in Ticketmaster WWW, they had preseason games for the
Rangers listed with price ranges as "$15-$500". They'd better be serving
a whole lot more than martinis in those $500 seats. I think, if
that's true, that the Rangers at MSG have all the other teams beaten for the

highest tix in the league.

Do you know where you sit and what you get for the $500?

And no offense taken, btw, about the martini etc. comments--I'm off my
soap box this evening (!).

I don't know anything about $500 tickets. According to my info, the top
ticket is $100 for the formerly read seats (>100) on the sides and the
formerly orange (100s) between the blue lines. Now $100 is expensive
enough.

I don't think there are any special amenities for a $500, besides snob
appeal. The Rangers may be trying to draw the celebrity types who pay
$1000 for courtside Knicks tickets.

There are probably only a few $500, but there must be close to 2000
$100 seats.
