I was looking though some old Hockey books (92-93) Season, (Old now I
guess)... But what ever happened to Brent Gretzky? I believe he signed with
Tampa Bay in the 92 Draft (47th I believe) but WHERE is he now? Haven't seen
hind nor hair of him. No one will EVER be the Great One, not Baby Lemiuex,
Not that Great Hockey God Lindros (Yes, I am a Flyers fan, but he still
won't be Gretz) not Hull, Not Bonk, not anyone. And obviously not his little
brother.

I don't know where he is now, but your posting reminded me of
interesting record. When Brent got his first point in the N.H.L., he and
Wayne passed the Hull brothers (Bobby and Dennis) as the highest scoring
brothers in N.H.L. history! Can you imagine, Wayne has more points than
Bobby and Dennis Hull combined?
Waht I'd really like to know is where the middle brother (Keith) went
to. The Sabres drafted him, but I don't remember him ever playing a game
in the N.H.L.

By the way, Brent was a big scorer in junior (Bellville, O.H.L.) who was
not just signed by Tampa, but drafted in the 3rd round (49th overall).
Given his numbers in junior (he had 121 pts in 62 games in 1991-92) you'd
think he'd still be considered a solid prospect.

Why, he is with the IHL Turner Cup champions, the Atlanta Knights,
of course.

Not only that, I believe he was voted best playmaker by the OHL coachs in
his final year. Then again, Brett Seguin was even better and he never
even got a decent shot for LA. Last I heard he played for the ECHL.

Keith was drafted by the Sabres - I think in the 3rd round somewhere
around '89 or '90... He spent some time with the Sabres' AHL affiliate
Rochester Americans, but was then sent down the the ECHL and, last I
recall (a year or more back) was only doing moderately well there.
Haven't heard nor seen anything about him in a while. I wouldn't look
for him in the NHL and I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of
professional hockey now.

I don't think he ever played a game in the NHL. Keith could never get
away from those Wayne comparisions. He eventually went to play in that
hockey hot-bed of Scotland. Haven't heard what he is doing the last year
or so.

Brent Gretzky has played the last two seasons for the Atlanta Knights of the
IHL, which is the Tampa Bay farm team. No he will never be another Wayne,
but he is developing into a pretty decent hockey player. His biggest problem
(that he admits to as well) is his size. He weighs in at about a buck-sixty
and can't seem to gain any more weight. Thus he tends to get the snot knocked
out of him quite often.

He had a better year this year, and was even called up to play for Tampa for
a few games. However, this was largely viewed as another publicity stunt by
the Espo brothers (a la Manon Rheaume). One of the few games he played was
against none other than the LA Kings, in which Brent played center against
his brother. I think this even made for an ESPN Sportscenter highlight!

Unfortunately a late season injury kept him out of most of the playoffs
this year, as the Knights romped their way through the league to win the
Turner Cup. But all in all he seems to be a pretty good kid. He switched
his number to 9 this year, and when asked, said he would be proud to be half
the hockey player that Wayne is.

Hope this helps!

Last I heard, Brent Gretzky was a struggling centre with the Tampa Bay
Lightning's farm team Atlanta Knights. Phil Esposito (Tampa GM) has said
in the past that he'd like Brent to make it, but perhaps his size is
working to his disadvantage (Brent is smaller than Wayne).

The good news is that Brent's defence has apparently improved drastically
over the last couple of years. We'll see what happens in training camp.

Brent Gretzky has played the past two years with the local Atlanta
Knights. He certainly plays hard, but he should be about 220 instead of
the 160 that he probably is. His size has him on the losing end of the
odd bodycheck but he plays with a lot of heart. A definate plugger not
afraid to go dig for the puck. I love it when the local PA announcer
would read his name after a Knight goal. "......and scoring his nth goal
of the season.......Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrent Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrretzky!!!!"

I think he has the nickname, "The Good One"

Cheers,

Hmmm...I think it would have been more clever had he changed his
number to 49.5 instead. :)

...and on a similar tack, whatever became of Keith Gretzky? He played
over here in Scotland for a season with the Ayr Raiders (who
subsequently went bust!) He wasn't exactly a star and at times he
managed to live down to his soubriquet of The Mediocre One but he
did o.k.

Where is he now?
