I am an avid hockey fan, but more than that, an active participant
and semi pro potential/hopeful. Let it be known NOW that I know the game and
have the instict and knowledge not to mention the rest of the many tools needed
to put together a FULLY COMPATIBLE TEAM, something that Neil Smith is pushing
farther and farther away.
The first mistake goes by the name of Petr Nedved. Sure, he's got
the skill to be a borderline superstar, but not here. Perhaps a west coast team
would suit him best. Why I say this is because the New York Rangers play BUMP
AND GRIND with patience when they win. When they lose, they play, LETS CHASE
THE PUCK, MAKE POOR PASSING CHOICES IN THE DEFENSIVE ZONE, AND MAKE ONE TOO
MANY PASSES IN THE OFFENSIVE ZONE. Has anyone here noticed that Captain Mark
Messier has one of the best slapshots in the NHL? Now I don't know how many of
you are Ranger fans like myself, but I can tell you this much, Mark took all of
5 or 6 slapshots last season. Anyway, back to Nedved. As I stated earlier, Petr
may have been the missing link in the late 80s and early 90s when paired with
the likes of Darren Turcotte, Ray Sheppard, Steve Rice, and another sleek
forward named Mike Gartner. However, being that the Rangers style of play
differs now as opposed to their "period of finesse" in the late 80s, Petr just
doesn't fit in. Now with the acquisition of Ray Ferraro, where does Petr stand?
Well, I have the answer. It has come to the attention to the fans as of late
that Sergei Zubov is on the trading block...rumored for Teamu Sellane...WHAT IS
THE FRONT OFFICE THINKING? DO WE WANT ANOTHER LETDOWN LIKE NEDVED? It is
understood that Sellane is of a different caliber than Nedved, however,
consider this...package Zubov/Nedved/Kocur for the likes of Keith Primeau and
Steve Yzerman...the latter of which has been the center of trade talks for
quite some time now. NY shall receive a bona fide superstar in Steve Yzerman,
whose value isn't quite as high as once was, and Keith Primeau is the only
answer to Philadelphia's BRUT CREW...with new addition Joel Otto to REALLY
frustrate the league. The addition of Primeau would be instrumental in the
Rangers game by being the ENFORCER while Kovalev can work his long overdue
magic. As for Steve Yzerman, it brings fresh blood, renewed confidence ( as
does the addition of Primeau ) and a Power play presence as his position game
is comparable to any of the SET UP MEN in the NHL.
Also, with the recent turmoil on the Islanders home front, don't be
surprised if Darius Kasparaitis makes the trip crosstown to Broadway. As it
stands now, he and Steve Thomas remain unsigned, and like Ray Ferraro, are now
using their leverage to TEST THE MARKET...the lucrative contracts to BRETT
LINDROS and TODD BERTUZZI are only enforcing Thomas' and Kasparaitis' position
regarding signing...
I'd like to hear from anyone who strongly agrees or disagrees with my
OPINIONS, and would appreciate a response from those who do. THANK YOU.
