Somehow, Gary Buttman has managed to prove himself incompetant once again.
Mario Lemieux got sick of playing football on the ice, and decided he would
retire. The very next season, Buttman decides to push for enforcement of the
obstruction rules. These are the very same rules Mario wanted the league to
call. Lemieux went through a lot of crap from hockey "experts" for his
"whining". However, letting a "marginal" obstruction call go without penalty is
like letting an offensive lineman grab a pass rushers ankles. For some
inexplicable reason, many people thought Mario wanted to "change the game for
his benefit". he just wanted the refs to use the rulebook consistently,
something they haven't done since the 80s.

this year, we'll call obstruction. Last year, we didn't. Year previous, we
started off calling obstruction, but gave up later in the year. Year previous,
the ultimately talented "obstruction team", the NJDevils, won the Cup.
I suppose next year will be a "mugging in the neutral zone", if we are to
continue this ridiculous trend.

Somehow, it seems poetic that the ridiculous NHL commissioner choses to enforce
these rules following the year that the only player with the cajones to push for
the rule enforcement would retire. Yes, very poetic.

Of course, I hate poetry . . .
