THE SWEDISH ELITE LEAGUE (ELITSERIEN) HOCKEY POOL 1993:
=======================================================

Introducing the all new Swedish elite league 1993 pool, a competition
where the object is to predict the results from Swedish elite league
games played each Sunday throughout the fall season. You don't have
to have knowledge of the Swedish elite league teams to enter this
pool, the most important thing is that you have fun participating.

In detail, here's how it works: Each Sunday, from September 26 to
December 5, there are six games (sometimes five) played in the Swedish
elite league. You will simply predict the outcome of these games by,
for each game, mark down a '1' if you think the home team will win,
'2' if you think the away team will win, or 'X' if you think it will
be a tie.

Note 1: There are games played on Thursdays and other days as well, but
to simplify things for both you and me, we will only predict
games played on Sundays.
Note 2: Sudden death overtime is not used in the Swedish elite league.
At least it wasn't used last season, and if it would happen to
be used for this season, it is still the result after 60 minutes
(3 periods) that the prediction is made for.

You will receive 1 point for each correct answer.

From Sept. 26 to Dec. 5, there are 10 Sundays of games, a total of 58
games played, hence the maximum point total will be 58 points.

But there is one other way to receive points too. When you enter this
competition you will fill in an entry form, on which you will find a
couple of bonus questions. In these bonus questions you will have to
predict the standings after December 9th (each team will have played
22 games by then). Just predict who will finish #1, #2, #3, #4, #11
and #12. Each correct answer will give you 2 points, hence a total of
12 points can be received for the bonus questions.

Note that you can enter this competition at ANY time during this fall,
but to get the bonus questions counted, the deadline is when the elite
league starts, i.e. Thursday, September 23rd at 7 p.m. (19:00) Central
European Time (that's 1 p.m. EST US time I think).
If you enter the pool after September 23rd, you will only receive points
for the predictions of the game results.

Who will win? Naturally the person who accumulates the most points.
The maximum points available are then 58 points for game results
predictions + 12 points for the bonus questions = 70 points.
In case of a tie, the tie-breaker is most bonus point.

Prize? Well, last season when I ran a similar competition, first prize
was a Swedish team (Farjestad) mug. With enough participants, look for
something similar this time.

Have you decided to join in? Good, just do as follows:

1. Fill in the entry form below (name, address, standings predictions)
2. Return the form to me (etx...@ufsa.ericsson.se)
3. Save the schedule list (on which you will find the games that are
going to be predicted). The schedule list is posted to r.s.h. also.

One last NOTE: Due to military obligations, I will not have net access
from September 20th to October 2nd. If you have any questions during
this time, I will not be able to answer them.
Hopefully the rules are clear enough that you can fill in the entry form
and your predictions, and just e-mail them to me.

/Staffan
