I have been a Caps fan for quite some time now and I was totaly embarassed and
ashamed at Dale Hunter's cheap shot to Pierre Turgeon after that goal. There
is no excuse for his actions and I really hope Pierre is all right. Dale
better be ready to pay some stiff fines and miss a few weeks of the hockey
season next year. Dale played his ass off all series and must of been
seriously frustrated for never going anywhere in the playoffs for the last 5
years, but that is no excuse for his cheap shot.

The Caps as a team played rather dirty for the whole series. This was the
cherry on the top.

Wrong... Hunter deliberately attempted to injure an opponent (a star
opponent at that), and succeeded, and it wasn't during the course of the
play.

They suspend guys taking drugs for 1 year because they might flip out and
do something like this... why should it be any different for someone who's
(allegedly) sound of mind? Sit Hunter down for a year without pay, and
see how much of this stuff happens again. I know I won't miss him... the
only price of admission I'd pay involving Hunter is to see him get a
stick through his head.

Of course, knowing the NHL, and the severity of the incident (i.e. no more
Turgeon for the playoffs), they will make the suspension at least 10 times
as long as the one Macoun got for chopping Lafontaines jaw...

( I don't think even Cherry can defend this one!)

Dale Hunter is a devil and the Caps will probably dump him as fast as they
can. They are going no where with him but his value is now way down now.
This was a well televised game and Betteman will deal with hunter quickly
and harshly. Just because hunter coughed up the puck and Turgeon scored
is no justification for an intent to injure attack. The only honest thing
hunter said was that he couldn't follow the puck!

It would be great if tons of hockey fans called the NHL league office
and asked for hunter to be suspended for a year. Yeah, I think I'll do that.
Maybe even a call to the Nassua County DA office. Yeah! and then Janet Reno..

According to SportsAlert, Isles forward Pierre Turgeon will miss at
least six weeks (the rest of the playoffs) due to a "grade three"
separation of his right shoulder.

In the regular season, Turgeon was the Isles leading scorer, with 58
goals and 74 assists for 132 points. He scored 4 goals in the
playoffs.

I certainly hope the NHL cracks down on such penalties, and I wouldn't
mind seeing the league make an example out of Dale Hunter, who went
after Turgeon after he scored a goal in their game on Wednesday.
Hunter hould be suspended for a long time and pay a hefty fine.
Players like Hunter give the NHL a bad reputation...

And The Cherry himself will probably continue to praise His Hunter, even
though His Hunter has always been one of the cheapest and dirtiest players
in the league. Awaiting Allan Sullivan's Coach's Corner report after
tonight's CBC games......

Oh yeah, The Cherry will probably say that His Hunter should have done what
he did to Turgeon to Ulf instead.

I heard on the morning sports (CBC radio) that Bettman was at the game,
and has called a hearing into the incident this morning. Perhaps the NHL
will move swiftly (and hopefully not shoot itself in the foot).

The only way the NHL can save face on this one is to quickly and harshly
punish Hunter. There might be some ground breaking measures taken.

Maybe they'll banish him to Edmonton ( or is it Hamilton, or is it Phoenix..)

(I wouldn't mind being banished to Phoenix)

It seems to me Dale Hunter must always be frustrated. As a Flyer's Fan
I've seen him cheap shot people on numerous occasions - the Gord Murphy
elbow to the head for instance. It seems like not only doesn't he make
an effort to avoid injuring others, he actually makes an effort _to_
injure others.

I think it's about time someone did something about it, although I know
it won't happen with Bettman.

The league needs to get rid of scum like this. It is absolutely rediculous
to let "goons" like Hunter go after talented players because they make some
dumb-ass play and cough up a goal. Anybody got the phone number of the
league office? I want to call and I will call to let them know how I feel.
This kind of shit has got to cease.

A few years back Hunter pulled a similar trick against the
Bruins in the playoffs. In that one he levelled Craig Janney
with a vicious elbow just after Janney scored. Janney scored
and started to celebrate and then got flattened. It wasn't
as flagrant as the Turgeon hit, as there was less time from
the stoppage of play, but it was still clearly a late, cheap, hit.
I can't remember if Hunter got suspended for that one, and I
think that one also came in a game where the Caps got ousted
from the playoffs.

I remember seeing this hit by Hunter. Not only was it cheap because it was
after the whistle but it was an obvious elbow besides. I haven't seen much
of Hunter's play and I thought he had cleaned up his act since the Janney
incident since he seems to be getting more respect for his scoring ability.
However, he showed to me and the entire world what a cheap bastard he really
is.

The hit on Turgeon was beyond cheap and if the league doesn't respond quickly
and harshly I wouldn't bet on much National TV coverage any time in the near
future.

Turgeon is out for the year (separated shoulder). As soon as next year's
schedule comes out I am going to circle the Islanders first game vs the Caps
and mail it along with a picture of Hunter to both Vicota and Kasparitis.
With any luck they will cause Hunter to miss all of next season,
if Betteman doesn't do that first

I'm not an Islander fan(Die-Hard Ranger fan) but this incident is not only a
blow to the Islanders chances against the Pen's but also a blackeye on the NHL.
I think Bettman should create the Hunter rule. Not only should Hunter be
suspended but he should suspend the top scorer of the Caps for the same amount
of time that Turgeon misses. What the heck was Hunter thinking?? It
definately was a cheap shot but I also think that when Bettman review the films
a fine should be imposed on Pillon(I'm pretty sure it was him) because in the
altercation after the hit Pillon was blatantly spearing Hunter while he was
down with intent to injure. Two wrongs don't make a right!! Arbour was
yelling after game 5 for Hatcher to drop his stick and use his hands, perhaps
Pillon should of listened to HIS coach and done the same!!

I wonder if Turgeon will have a miracle return, a la Mario Lemieux last year.

First of all, I am a Rangers fan, and I, personally, hate both the
Capitals and the Islanders, and the outcome of the series has no
profound effect on my life, but Dale Hunter is an a--hole and should be
suspended for the whole f--king season. Yes, I think it was a low-down,
dirty thing to do, but, above all, being a Rangers fan who goes to
school in Pittsburgh, I am quite upset because now there is NO CHANCE of
the Islanders defeating the Penguins without Turgeon. Thanks a lot,
Dale.

NO NO NO!!!!!!! People like Vukota should *not* be in the NHL!!! Okay,
Kasparitus (sp?) played a rough game, but at least he has a shred of
talent. But anyway, retaliation is *not* the answer!!! The NHL will go
absolutely nowhere if there is a retaliation that puts Hunter out of
action. Even a major brawl will send those damn southern US TV crews to
the tape room to dig up the tape of the Hunter hit. Why do people want
the Isles to retaliate? Yeah, I am sure they will, since Al Arbour is
still in Uniondale, but they damn well shouldn't. Hopefully Bettman will
punish Hunter's ass so hard that the Isles feel "compensated", but I don't
think that could happen. I don't think I would feel compensated by
anything. If the Isles do do anything to Hunter, however, Bettman should
pound on them too.
BTW, the next time Hunter plays against the Isles would be a good time for
the Isles to prove that they have a shred of class by not going after him.
If they don't try to maim him then maybe I will not despise them so much.
Okay, I'll still hate them with a passion, but I'll have just a tiny bit
of respect for them, which coming from a Ranger fan is quite a lot. We'll
see, now won't we?
