My prediction for the first round had an astounding 43% accuracy
rate. Who would have expected Philadelphia to fold so fast? No one
who knows anything about hockey seriously expected Vancouver to bow
out after two games. However, not to be deterred by reality here are my
predictions for the quarter finals.

In the West
Detroit vs. St. Louis -- Detroit
Colorado vs. San Jose -- San Jose

Back East
Carolina vs. Montréal -- Montéal
Toronto vs. Ottawa -- Toronto

Detroit is on a roll and I don't expect them to have too much
trouble with St. Louis. The Colorado vs. San Jose series is harder to
call, but San Jose impressed my in the first round and Colorado looked
shaky at times. This series could go to seven games, but San Jose
will probably take it in the end. In Carolina vs. Montréal I think
that Montréal will win fairly easily. Caroline should never have got
past New Jersy (although I am very glad that they did). The Toronto
/Ottawa series is hard to call, but I think that experience and grit
will win out in the end and Toronto will move on to the semi-finals.

If you make any money betting on the quarter finals using my
predictions please sent me ten percent.

I had a 75% success rate in predicting the East first round. I
didn't predict the West because I knew it'd lower my accuracy rate. :)

I expected it. :) Who'd have expected Carolina to get so lucky?
But I guess they've been doing it all season.

I hope your coin flips are luckier this time around. :) Really,
there are no clear matchups in the second round--anyone can win.
Yes, even St. Louis! They're a better team than Vancouver, and
maybe, contrary to popular belief, they have goaltending.

The only prediction I will make is this: If the San Jose/Colorado
series gets to game seven, Colorado will win. How could anyone
bet against Roy, in game 7, at home? San Jose needs to at least
split the first four games to have any chance of winning the series--
if they get down 1-3, they're done.

I had 67% in the west (I didn't make a prediction for the San
Jose vs. Phoenix series) and 25% in the east. My preditions based on
the results of the first two games were 67% over all, 33% in the west
and 100% in the east.

I certainly didn't see that coming. I never expected Carolina to
the the sleeper team.

It was hard to make predictions this time around. Every series
could go either way. It will be interesting to see how things stand
after the week-end.

I agree with that, but I think that San Jose is going to surprise
people and hold their own from the start.

When Clarke traded Brind'Amor to Carolina, he diminished his own
squad and boosted the Hurricanes. The only weakness on this squad
is coaching. Irbe will return to the nets when Weekes falters,
and Weekes will falter.
Montreal has better goaltending and better coaching; every other
advantage goes to Carolina.
Carolina will not have a scrum at their own net the way Boston did
in game one. Nor will they goon the Canadiens' top scorer the way
Boston did.
This series will probably be the best hockey of these playoffs,
with an experience advantage to Carolina : Francis and Brind'Amor.
