To be eligible for an NCAA athletic scholarship, you must have
successfully
completed, with a minimum 2.0 GPA, predefined courses. These course are
called the NCAA Core Course Requirements.

It is important to plan these courses through high school to make sure
you
do qualify for collegiate sports. Generally speaking, if you carry a
solid
schedule throughout high school, you should have no problem in meeting
these requirements. To help you plan your schedule, here is what the
NCAA
requires in these core courses for Div I and Div II Schools.

DIVISION I Colleges (effective 8/1/96)
English - 4 years
Mathematics - 2 years ( one year being Algebra and one being Geometry)
Natural / Physical Sciences - 2 years (including 1 lab science if offered
by HS)
Social Sciences - 2 years
Additional - 1 year in English, Math, Natural or Physical Sciences.
- 2 years in any of the above areas or foreign language,
computer
Science, Philosophy or nondoctrinal religion.
SAT/ACT - minimum of 900 on SAT with a minimum of 2.0 GPA or
minimum of 21 on the ACT with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

DIVISION II Colleges
English - 3 years
Mathematics - 2 years
Natural / Physical Sciences - 2 years (including 1 lab science if offered
by HS)
Social Sciences - 2 years
Additional - 2 years in English, Math, Natural or Physical Sciences.

Be careful during your senior year, thinking you have all these
requirements
met and decide to kick back and carry a very light load. Colleges look
for this
and they really prefer seeing solid subject taken each year of high
school and
especially in the senior year.

I hope this has helped you plan your academic activities during high
school.
Be aware that the academic requirements do change occasionally and you
should keep up to date with them.

If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate in responding my

posting via e-mail or additional postings.
