I've heard reference to a natural hat trick.

What is this?

What is an un-natural hat trick?

Thanks,
Nate McConnell

Originally a hat trick was three consecutive goals. The rest of the team had
to buy a new had for the scorer. In modern times, three goals in a game is
call a hat trick. For the purist, a natural hat trick is still three
consecutive goals.

I believe a natural hat trick is when a player scores three consecutive goals
in a game. An "un-natural hat trick", as you call it, is when a player gets
three goals in a game which are not consecutive.

I've heard announcers call three different situations "natural" hat tricks:

-three consecutive goals by a player; i.e., no teammate scores between any
of the player's three goals.

-three goals by a player in one period.

-three non-special teams goals by a player (no power-play or short handed
goals).

A natural hat trick is three goals IN A ROW by the same player.

An un-natural hat trick involves a special move, which you do by twisting
the joystick down, down+right, right and pressing high punch. The puck turns
into lightning and shoots into the goal, then swirls around twice and back
into the net. Thus, three goals.

If you hit the goalie, you get an extra goal for the fatality.

I remember last year on ESPN they made a reference to a "Texas Hat Trick".
For trivia sake, i'll hold off on the answer.

I believe a natural hattrick happens when you score three straight
goals for your team, as opposed to a regular hatrick when it's
measured from the entire game.

So where did the term 'hat trick' originate? I thought I heard it
goes back to before hockey times.

Just curious.

A natural hat-trick is scoring three goals in a row rather than
throughout the game. Go Jays!

A natural hat trick is when a player scores three straight goals for his team.
For example, if Pavel Bure scores three goals in a row to make the score 3-0,
then he has a natural hat trick.

Nope, that's incorrect.
