Calling a Canadian a Canuck is like calling an American a Yankee.

I certainly don't...

I've never been offended.
Hell, I refer to myself as a canuck fairly often.
Used to be a comic book hero named Captain Canuck.
Doubt they'd have used such a name if the term were derogatory.
But hey, we've always been a little backwards over here in the
colonees.

ps - Suppose its more like calling a person from the US a yankee.

Canuck used to be considered mildly derogatory, on the order of
"hillbilly" or "redneck" in the USA to describe southern whites. But the
Canadians, being blessedly freer of the damnable scourge of p.c., have
turned it into a term of endearment. So, even though I am a Ranger fan,
I will happily say, Go Canucks, under certain circumstances, like WWII,
when Canuck troops fought like tigers on -- what was it, Sword Beach?
(Never during a Stanley Cup final, though.)

No, Canadians do not consider the term offensive.

Here's a question for you: Why would a team based in Canada call itself
the Canucks if they considered the term offensive?

I am Canadian and do not find it offensive at all. The Canadian Alpine
Ski team has been known as the 'Crazy Canucks' in the past and it was a
nickname which Canadians, for the most part anyway, were proud of.
I currently live in the US and have no trouble referring to myself as a
Canuck, even though my heart is with the Calgary Flames!
